Thread: Carbine Speed, why do we only get +60 at master?
We get +60 at master, whereas pistols and rifles get +74 and +90, respectively. Why?
Even with a pricey +25 speed outfit, we hit only +85, whereas pistoleers and rifleman can hit the cap on any weapon pretty quickly and cheaply.
You can find some justification in the additional +speed in the BH tree. But why should I have to master marksman and scout just to get the most out of my carbine? I'm Master Carbineer/CM, which is fun, but I have no skill points left to dabble my speed up. It's pretty lame that a Master Carbineer
has to go elsewhere to truly master carbines. And if that's the reason, why do pistols, which get the exact same bonuses in the BH tree, have +74 speed instead? I won't even go into the comparisons to RL, but they're there.
I wouldn't want to create a separate skill tree and weapons (like the light/heavy lighting cannons) for BH carbines and pistols - they should use the same weapons we use. How about the BH skills granting honorary boxes in the Carbineer tree, giving them the +skills but not the specials? Then
we could move the +speed and +accuracy totally within the carbineer tree, letting us cap at master,
while still letting BH get some bit of the bonus, as they currently do.
i can't remember the speed equation but i'll go look for it and post it if i can find it
which hopefully means carbineers and pistoleers won't HAVE to dabble in bounty hunter for decent speed *crosses fingers*
I'm leveling carbineer atm with my WS alt and it seems not to be that bad at all, I mean we can deal decent damage (way more than pistoleer wich is IMO the biggest joke in the game if not dabbled)
I'm enjoying carbines with that character, I hope I'll keep enjoying it
it's tru that +60 speed at master makes it useless in PvP, so I'm happy I don't PvP
The Developers originally provided no clear response to this issue. They stated that they want carbines in the middle between pistols and rifles. I pointed out this is a big issue for Carbineers and that their vision does not match the current game. The Developers revised their response to indicate they will be addressing our speed as well! I was shocked by their movement on this issue but I am very very happy they are now acknowledging this as an important problem. Their change in stance on the speed issue is incredibly good news for us!
The only real workaround I've found for this in PvP is to stick with the fast Carbines.
DH17's, Enhanced E11s, and the occassional Elite or EE3. Yeah, speed slice and power up your way below 2.0 speed and go for the state effects and Dizzy/KD to bring your enemy's abilities down and you're in the low end of competitiveness in open PvP. Screw the Action and Mind focused shots like CripplingShot and the LegShots and go with WildShots or FullAutoSingle/FullAutoArea (I like FAA2 to draw out the TEF kiddie crowd). Stick with shots that put state effects on your target and hope they stick.
PvP for us can't be a pure focus on damage, we're just not set up to do it like that. Speed and states or we're just faction fodder.

That sounds a lot like a role in the GCW to me. IMO to many people focus on pointless duels and yell "we suck" when they lose a ton of one on one matches. If the GCW is the end game then realize it's a galatic civil WAR. Wars are fought with groups of people going at each other. Not one on one pointless duels between FOTM "pwn j00" templates.

Amen. We're not a duelling class, certainly no flavor of the month candidate, but in group combat, more than once I've had a target flopping and dizzy for a melee tank to run over him by the time he closes range.
Here is a bit of advice. We don't have speed mods so go for weapons with at least a 2.5AS. Doesn't mean your going to be doing much damage because that limits that to one weapon. The E-11 carbine, which sucks, but at least you have that wonderfull ap1 to play with unlike the DH-17 (and short counterpart), and EE3. It's possible to get a laser carbine down that far but your probably going to be stuck with 270 max damage (these are without stocks, stocks add a +.5AS on the average). If you cant afford krayt tissues. Go find a weaponsmith who will take custom orders and go there with a form fitted stock if you have one. Form fitted stocks will reduce AS by .5. Tell him to use the normal barrels and not the advanced ones. The normal ones have a drop in damage but will reduce your AS by an additional .1 on the average. The weaponsmith and I ran a quick DPS on both the advanced and normal barreled elites. Your going to lose a whole whopping 1 point of damage on your DPS if you use normal barrels. I have an elite made with these Items. Has normal elite ham, 130(?)-208 dmg, and a 3.0 attack. Got a speed slice that reduced the AS to 2.2. But please don't waste these Items on a DH-17. Its a good gun but lacks an AP. Do it with a laser carbine, elite, or a DXR6. The DXR6 would probably be the best comprimise with the higher min damage than the elite or laser carbine.
