Sorry to post again about this on-going comparison, but I've used the search function and still have a few questions, so I hope you don't mind. I also apologize for using this forum instead of the Bounty Hunter one, but that one is crowded with, well... it's crowded.
I want to combine Master Bounty Hunter with either Master Pistoleer or Master Carbineer. I know I won't have the best template to kill Jedi, but I still want to know which oneis the better of the two. My other worry is about regular PvP (base raiding and duels). The FAQ states that Carbineer is weak in PvP, but is it able to hold it's own? Also, combined with the Bounty Hunter skills, will I be able to take on some of the high-end content?
And then there is this thing about Carbineer being a profession where you really have to think about what your doing. Is that just 'Carbineer pride' or do you really have an edge over other professions once you've really mastered it?
Thanks in advance,
Thalyk

go the bh/pistoleer way. you get torso shot and eye shot which are huge helps in pvp. get a good damage geo blaster and you're set. i've dueled jedi as a BH carbine/master carbineer mix and 2 shots landed out of maybe 30 tries. torso shot is probably the most effective BH attack against a jedi since it wounds them to hell. plus pistoleer gets decent defense against KD and dizzy.

It depends on what you want. If you can leave your ego at the door and act as support, go with carbineer. If you want to do damage, then pick up a geno pistol.

Geo pistol is overrated. If you ever go against someone wearing stun layered comp. armor (and most decent PvP'ers already have set) then its as effective water pistol. Thanks to riflemen /headshot3 everyone worth their salt has a stun layered helmet.
DE-10 and eyeshot is your best bet right now since its attacking an unhealable pool vs. regular players but with the new weapons and the supposed doctor buff nerf coming next month in patch 10 you might end up switching over to carbines again. One of those new weapons might be a stun or AP3 weapon OMG! Jedi can heal their MIND pool fairly easily.
Personally I like our area KD. Nothing like spamming states then follow up with charge2 and watch a group of attacking players start flopping. You get nothingeven close tothat with pistols.

Go with what you want. I was all set on MBH/Master pistoleer without giving any thought to carbines. But then when I was levelling up the BH carbine tree, I found myself having fun with carbines while levelling BH pistols turned into more of a chore.
I found a great auction on some real good carbine clothes (speed tapes which will cap me, accuracy and accuracy while moving) and have not looked back. Last night I became Maser Carbineer (and am 2/4/4/4 BH) and dueled my padawan friend. I landed more shots than I thought I would and beat him twice. Maybe there is hope for my template!
As for the geo pistol, someone already said it, when I PvP, it is always with stun comp and a PSG on. Negates stun attacks.
Oh, and one of my favorite things about carbines... the laser carb is your best friend and are easily picked up off the bazaar for 6K. Good damge slice and a PuP gives great damage. Still looking for a good krayt DX though.

krayt geo > any krayt carbine for pvp. yes there are stun psg's but they only last 2 or 3 shots. if your opponent has effectiveness-sliced composite it more than likely has 90% resist to energy, acid, and heat while stun is only at 30-40% max. krayt geo is around 150-350 damage, which is going to bebetter than a DE-10 which deals energy damage. you may be able to kd and dizzy your opponent but you aren't going to do much damage with any of the carbines. try dueling a master rifleman/tkm who has thakitillo in his system, you aren't going to do anything.

Dunno what kind of PSG's you all use on Bria, but I buy a crate of Imperial PSG's with 2500+ condition and they last a whole lot more than a few shots, in fact they usually last me several days of decent PVP unless I end up getting clone camped, in which case I just take everything off anyways.

Thats a tough one. Pretty much any weapon out there is going to be nearly negated due to the insane level that armor is at currently.
But carbines do have the damage advantage over pistols. I tried to duel (with pistols)a steaked out melee stacker without armor and both last ditch and the default attack were at around 40 points of damage. easlily regened with buffs.
Why they don't have ranged toughess is beyond me. We aren't wusses, we get shot with bolts of plasma for crying out loud. And why can you use specials with center of balance but not with tumble to (whatever)?

If you manage to loot a Carbine like this, you'll go Carbineer eventually

Also, to elaborate on my opinions of the two. It depends on the role you wish to play in PVP. I prefer to be grouped with others in which case my state changes and ranged KD are extremely beneficial. In the solo arena, I can beat melee if I kite them and spend about 45 minutes to do it if its against somebody with fencer or thakatillo. Ranged, CM used to be a real difficulty since I have no Doctor, but due to the new buffs they have become a lot easier and I can beat the ranged guys without dots 80% of the time. It all depends on your armor, your weapons, your PSG's, your buffs, and your food.

my template is a mix and works great for PvP (I mean real great)
BH 0440
Carbineer 3440
Pistoleer 0044
Rifleman 0003
there's no ranged mitigation 3, defenses are decent, and it lets you switch to carbines or pistols at wish with about the same efficiency. (carbines are my main tho) you got all you need for PvP, dizzy/KD - dizzy/posture change, Eyeshot, Torso shot Geoblaster cert etc...
it's more focused on offense while most of PvPers are like 80 defense / 20% offense, that template is about 50/50 wich is surprising for the others, capped speed on both weapon types and good accuracy as well as good def vs state defenses (65% vs KD) and oh, counterattack.
very cool template even tho there's no master box.
