I picked up Carbineer as a holo profession, just before I grew bored of the holo grind and decided to just go with what professions made me happy. I was only 0/0/1/0 at the time but decided, against advice from all of my friends, to complete the profession and see what it had in store. I am currently 3/2/1/1.
At first all i would do is equip my highest damage weapon (laser) and use the highest hitting shot I had. But after reading these forums I decided to try and play a little smarter. I went out last night and bought 12 carbines - 4 laser, 4 DXR6 and 4 EE3, had them sliced and kept out my fastest ones for now (to be replaced with the highest damaging ones when I get better speed).
I then practiced my different shots on various mobs. It was like playing a whole new game
I discovered I could dizzy a mob, blind it and stun it. I discovered that the laser was not the best weapon for every circumstance. I started to pay attention to the accuracy number above the mobs head to determine the best range, posture and weapon for the situation. I discovered that just because Leg Shot 3 is higher up than Leg Shot 2 it does not mean it is a much better attack. I looked at my combat logs and was amazed at how many times a mob would actually miss me or I would counter attack.
I do think that Carbineer needs some fixing (which I know is coming very soon) but it is my opinion that people who say we suck do not understand how to use our abilities to the best advantage. I was once a Master Bounty Hunter and could take down almost anything by spamming eyeshot or LLC singles. Commandos seem to rock because of their flamer, and Riflemen spam head shots because it is an easy kill.
We do not have it so easy - we do not have that one particular shot we can spam over and over to do the job every time (or at least I do not yet!). I like to think of us as the thinking man's fighter - if played correctly and wisely, and with time and practice, I believe that Carbineers can be a force to be reckoned with.

Our issue was never one that we were helpless, just nowhere near the level of effectiveness we should have. We've been restricted in our true crowd control roll because of AoE bugs, our bleeds not putting initial damage in the right bar, several high end specials had broken multipliers, and so on. We weren't useless, but our options available to get the job done were badly gimped.

lol, im not yet master carbineer, but when im 3-3-1-3, i think i got a good idea of what its like.
Think about the shots all u like, they all suck and do little damage, i know all the tricks and use the prof to the best of its ability, and its pathetic, it really is, and 90% of the people who have tried it agree with me. Unless the next patch does some really cool stuff, i will be dropping it in future.
As for PvP,.. lets just say that a tkanovice (yes novice) would probably own u... its a shame..

Cabrine rocks, period
I own with it and i'm happy!!!
when I was a BH carbine + carbine... I single handed defeated a group alone...
1 master commando/pikeman buffed
1 doctor/tkm buffed
3 not buffed and not elite in any class...
They all died, I was buffed but those 5 guys died... the 3 not buffed died from cripple shots and area attacks... TKM died because of charge shots and leg 2 spams.... the commando/pikeman was HARD to kill... he almost got me but when I realised that his armor had only strong energy defence... I switched to acid and his health started to drop like hell.
I had a full padded armor: 70% kenetic / 40% energy
My carbines: krayt Laser carbine: 40-400 2.5 speed - EE3 1.9 110-210- Nyms carbine 3.0 speed... don't remember damage
conclusion... it's all about how you play...
I started to raid when I was novice marksman, of course I was not a god but I was doing good in the groups...

Well having BH is TOTALLY different than being a Carbineer....

yep, i find most people who claim carbineer is ok, use it with BH, and use carbineer merely to boost speed and accuracy on the side.

We don't have a dizzy that works on Live. With publish 7, yes, but notcurrently.

Well I only use a carbine, and I have inflicted a dizzy state on a mob, so unless the mob gets dizzy from my dazzling good looks it must be coming from my carbine.

oh i'm not a BH carbine anymore.. I'm Ranger/carbineer
I am not as powerfull as before but i'm still a deadly opponent, I won't take a full group of people but one on one I can... I often duel with a pistol/smuggler pistol/fencer and believe it or not, I will win some rounds
nice... as a doc/carbineer, i'm toast most of the time in duels... unless i can get away with a dizzy heal (or unless I'm really lucky) but I don't duel very often... so I suck at it!

Some were dissapointed from my shift from carbines. So you could be right on that. A few people actually went carbineer after I pulled their butts out of a sticky situation. lol
