I am curious to know which attack everyone uses as their auto-attack. Do you just use your highest damaging shot or a low HAM cost type of shot?

None, it simply gets in the way of combos, heals and if I need to change tactics quickly. My advice is to turn it off.

Nothing more annoying than realizing you need to get in a knockdown....but the auro attack shot just fired and you are a second to late....or need to heal and can't.

Auto-attack also delays things like kd recovery. I have found that when I have it on it'll wait a second say, "You cannot melee strike while knockeddown" Then the kd recovery timer will cycle through about three times then I will stand up, and chances are if your opponent is doing enough damage you will already be dead.

Hmm... seems like i am the outcast here.

I have legshot on default attack. If i need to do massive damage, i squeeze otherattacks in (rapid fire or scatter shot) or change the default according to the situation, but having the default attack allows me to split of part of the time to check the team status, give orders, communicate with teammembers (or in case of basebusting in several groups communnicate with the other groups), care for SL abilities, watch the enemy and switch target to put a chargeshot somewhere when needed, etc...

Perhaps it's my old age and general slow thinking and reflexes, but having to concentrate to just click the attack buttons all the time just takes away too much time and attention to focus on other things at hand.

All my dmg specials for PVP combat are on the toolbar at F5-F8. I can hit those when needed....but I dont want to wait for a cooldown to hit /retreat or /rally if I need to.

and in the case of retreat...its not just cooldowns you are waiting on...spamming out leg shot means you have to get your action back up. I think a group will last longer being able to burst run out of a bod spot Immediatly than by my shooting a couple legshots in the mix.

Actually i give up on the matter of retreat. It's not only the legshot, already using other SL abilities and one or another tactical chargeshot means that retreat won't be available for some time...

Well, that's true...it does only end up on rare occasions..certainly not when it is needed to retreat!

I think they should renameit /charge as its only when fresh and running in to a battle that it can be used....but that's for another forum...back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I have the basic Ranged Attack set as default. It doesn't interfer with specials timings and still outputs adequate amount of damage while the specials are cycling. Doesn't interfere with the Recovery Specials either.

When the basic ranged attack fires off, all the specials cycle even breifly. So, yes it does interfere..even if only for a second as many of us pointed out. A second in combat is a long time. While I don't know specifically about recovery specials, I know bacta shot is delayed a second and would have a hard time believing it is affected and not Recovery specials.

I have never noticed the refire period of specials to be different after using ranged attack. This could be due to the fact that my template (Master Commando/Master Carbineer/CM 4000) doesn't get the speed up in to the higher limits. Therefore when I'm ready for the next shot the special is usually reset. The same seemed to apply for Bacta Shot, using Default Ranged or not I seemed to get the same consistent intervals between heals... and that applied to Recovery Specials too. I don't have empirical data to prove my points but I have watched the timestamps on my specials/heals/damage and came to some of the base conculsions indicated above.
