Thread: scattershot 2 vs. crippleshot vs. burstshot 1/2
if i were to pick only one, which would you suggest? crippleshot seems to be very popular but i feel that its slow and uses up a lot of HAM. has anyone done calculations to determine the damage per second as well as damamge per HAM?
i'm planning on being master carbineer, so i will have all these available. i just would like to know if i should even bother hotkeying more than one of these attacks.
Scattershot 2 - Worthless (you might use this ina situation where the mob has a sliver of health or mind, and this attack will let you finish it off)
Burstshot2 - Random dmg pool (seems like it hits the following pools with the following probabilities: 40% health, 40% action, 10% mind
It has a 4x dmg modifier. With 550STR 550QUI 400FOC, using a laser carbine, ham drains are roughly 100/100/20. Multiplier for health drain is about double any other carbine move, but action drain is reduced.
Crippleshot - Random dmg pool with same distribution as burstshot2, but has 5x multiplier. With 550STR 550QUI 400FOC, using a laser carbine, ham drains are roughly 40/180/20. Probably the most powerful carbine move with the high multiplier but random pool makes it less appealing.
So to summarize, it more or less depends on what carbine you are using. Laser carbine is something like 30/45/30 hams, so keep this in mind when it comes to ham drains. I'd recommend using burstshot for high action carbines (it allows several shots with the reduced action drain, health/action tend to drain equaly for me), and crippleshot for high health ham drain carbines like the EE3.
Hope this helps
Scattershot 2 is far from worthless, it does amazing damage. You also have to take into account that when you have Scattershot 2, or Scatterblast you also have +15 to Carbine Speed.
With my LaserCarbine I top off on Burstshot 1 around 1500 damage...across 1 random pool
With Scattershot 2 top off around 2800 damage across 3 pools.
A misconception of Scattershot 2 is that the damage is equally divided among the 3 pools...it's not, you can and often hit for higher in Health, followed by Action and last Mind
Scattershot is far from worthless and is indeed very usefull combined with cripple shot, especially in PVP....

can scattershot stand on it's own? if i were to avoid getting the second and thrid trees for now, and work my way up the 'mercenary' tree, would i be effective? i feel that the speed bonus is more valueable than accuracy or counterattack.
I worked up the speed tree first and I use a combination of Scattershot 2 with Burst 1,and its pretty effective. I mightuse Full Auto Single 2 too apply a random effect . At Mercenary I have +50 speed compared to someone who worked up another part of thetree would have +30 speed, I think.
Our bleeds are good damage wisebut in my opinion work too slowly. If I kill a mob with bleed, I am usually incapped waiting for him to die
Is burst shot 1 or 2 at all better than full auto single 2? According to the Prima guide, full auto single 2 is faster (1.5x vs 2x), does the same damage as burst shot 2 (3x) just with a higher action cost (2.5x vs 1.25x).
I ask because I am close to taking my first skill rank in Carabineer, and I want to make sure I choose wisely. I am currently tempted to take Intermediate Carbine Marksmanship, because that ultimately leads to crippling shot.

first off...anything you read in the prima guide assume is false until tested differently =) not all of it is, but a lot of changes have happened that they weren't told about (i'm assuming), or theyr'e just wrong about. a lot is still correct though...
now then, burst shot 1 is way better than full-auto single2...in terms of damage (seemed to average about 80 extra damage for me using my dxr6) and ham cost (SIGNIFICANTLY lower. it was a little bit more than 2/3 of full-auto single2.)
however, full-autos' have state-change effects: dizzy, blind, stun...umm, they're mostly broken right now (blind is kinda nice though), but if the dizzy ever starts sticking it'd be MUCH more effective. (god i love dizzy! a good chance for a kd anytime they pc, for thsoe who don't know)
Genome_Balantine: not sure where are you getting those multipliers from, but they seem different from my experience. Crippling shot with a laser carbine 239 max damage goes as high as 1700 for me, and it matches what other people were saying about a 7-7.5x multiplier.
Burst2 with the same carbine tops out at 1300, so it appears a 5.5x or so.
Also you are missing a 10% from the total of the different pools hit ![]()
Anyway I dont find scattershot useless,it can do a whole lot of damage, and I use it almost all the time to finish a mob, expecially when you have to hit health or mind (for action there's legshot). Also in pvp it damages mind, which is always good.
All those specials are useful in my opinion, just in different situations.
Thank you all for your help! I definitely need the guidance, because at my current rate of gaining carbine xp, I'll be able to fire at Imperials as they fly though my rebel player city in their tie fighters from the back of my dewback mount by the time I make master ![]()
Yes, I know that the Prima guide is often in error, which is why I posed the question as I did. ![]()
