Thread: Carbineer hunting in Lok: Hard time

So today I was trying out my newfound carbineer powers in lok. It was my favorite planet to adventure in when I was pistoleer and tka, going from kimo town to blood razor shuttle to canyon corsair stronghold killing everything in my way. Now... first I went up against some kusaks...

100% special to heat, 100% special to acid, 50% special to energy.

I flip through my weapon... nope, only heat acid and energy. Hmm... so I whip out my fists and beat em down. So I continue on... find a few more random spawns, beat down some pirates... but everything seemed to have massive resistance to heat acid and energy.

Point is, our selection is really bad for doing lok, almost everything there is energy/heat/acid resistant (probably from the hot sulphur pools).

to a point yes, but there should never be a planet a player is cut off from exploring because of their choise of profession. granted a non-combat profession is going to have a heck of a time running around on Dathomir, but the idea of a combat profession is to be able to defend one's self in combat.

i am not saying that every combat profession should prevail in every situation, but to be cut off from TWO planets almost completely is a bit much.

Unfortunate since I live on tatooine and spend alot of time on lok. Our best un-resisted damage is acid, good thing dxr6 has armor piercing...

Anyone have any planet recommendations for carbineers? I don't mean just for xp, like for exploring (i.e. loot and pillage).

50% Energy Resist is pretty much the same as AR2. So the AP2 laser carbine will be even.

actually, it was 50% special so it would have been equivalent to 25% against ap 2.

Anyways, I didn't realize they were resistant to energy until I was blasting at them with my dxr6 for a while wondering why It took so long to kill one... then I grabbed a brain and looked at the stats, they were 100% resist haha...

Good thing 100% doesnt actually mean 100% damage resistance, it just takes 100% from the base and damage actually dealt is the variance and modifiers...

I do not believe that to be true. There are a lot of wierd armor "rules" going around and that is one I have never seen evidence for in game.

Well, there is alot of weird bugs going on, like I heard that bonus to damage for having ap higher than the creature ar doesn't work, so ar2 is just as good as ar0 against an unarmored opponent. Never tested it though, so I wont know.

And the whole resistance thing is off too, I do damage to 100% acid protection creatures with my acid rifle. But then again, I heard status effects like stun and blind work off of restraint, and so I actually do some restraint damage while using specialsthat end up going through the 100% acid resist. There's alot of background number crunching and hidden rules we don't know about. But the whole 100% resist thing is probably something that can be looked into, for any profession.

I meant ap, not ar in the above example...

Actually I live on Lok and most creatures have little or no acid resists, keep looking...

(I only noticed this because I thought it was convenient that the Lok mission gives you an Acid based gun )

50% energy resist is 50% energy resist, period. Looking at AP/AR is separate.

Laser Carbine is AP2 and if the creature is AP0, it is bugged from what I have heard. If the creature is AP1 then you get a 25% bonus. Now that does not reduce the Energy Resist, BUT if you wanted to look at it on equivalent basis having AP2 vs. AP1 would be 37.5% vs. 50% energy resist in your example, NOT 25%.

BTW if the creature is AR2 and your weapon is AP1, you get a 50% reduction, so it doesn't work evenly both ways. Higher AP weapon gets 25% bonus but a weaker AP weapon gets a 50% reduction.

Special protection and effectiveness function the same when attacking a target as far as I know. There is a difference on Player armor when it comes to Slicing, special protection can not be sliced.

If you want to see a lot of raw numbers, go to my website www.tafirehawk.com/GoA and download the Version 2 spreadsheet. Everything but the pool distribution is in there to detail the combat damage in the game.
