Carbineer Archive
Thread: A Carbineer's role in party PVE...
Combat starts: Our commando burns the force-sensitive target-du-jour. Immediately our Rifleman opens up with a mind bleed, and the commando starts running when his action timer resets. The baddy strikes at the commando, and then goes towards the rifleman.
Here's where we come in.
I'm the carbineer. Now he's bleeding health and mind, so I'm going to hit his action right? Sure. I bleed him, and he starts coming at me. Now the guy has 14k ham, and me hitting randomly for 200 points is not really frightening him. Kneecapping him hits for what, 600 if I'm really lucky? Again, not a show-stopper. So it hits me... I know what I must do.
I drop my Paramilitary Camo Pants (+1/+2 Melee/stun resist) and I moon him. He becomes enraged. I haul ass. I can run pretty fast, and I wear armor that makes him not kill me right away. Meanwhile, the commando's reloaded, and the rifleman's keeled over laughing.
I have found our true purpose. We are bait. We're the rabbit. We're the little dude that screams an epithet and then beats feet. We're chum. We're the stuff Quinn throws off of the back of the boat just to ge tthe shark close enough so that the sarge can shoot the oxygen tank in its mouth 3 scenes later. I think he used a rifle, too.
It's ok, just accept your choice and learn to love burstrunning.

Show off by knocking down something HUGE. Anything huge will work, because Chargeshot rules.
Group not impressed? Find yourself a 1.9speed E11 (or lower) and spam Burst2 until they stop laughing. Personally I get off to dealing 1200-2200 dmg a round as fast as the gimp pistoleer next to me.
Get a tank (kahmurra, Rock beetle, etc) and tell the group "Ill handle this piket nest for you guys by myself while you heal." Ignore their objections and start kicking butt...only if you like showing off.
Bait? Thats what TKA's are for... throw em into the fray and then gripe when they get mind sucked (didnt you migrate your stats right?). Heh.
God I love being a carbineer.
I'm sick of hearing all these complaints about every combat class, EVERYONE has something to complain about lol
hehehe... i picked up CH just so i wouldnt be bait anymore (krayts would always go for me first) and now my purpose (since i usually hunt wiht another CH and a doc) is damage. i actually do quite a bit.
and after having some fun with my strangely bugged chargeshot1 last night (the kd worked every single shot on the krayts we killed regardless of the timer), i was relegated to my former role of crowd control for all of 3 hours. you see, when you have a graul mauler or 2 tanking, theres not much need for bait
Crap, and here I've been trying to bleed and run.
I'm guessing I'll try /actionshot1;/actionshot2;/chargeshot1 now until I can figure out how not to die so much with such a long walk back to the goodies.
Thanks for the info. I'd like to pick up CH but I can't see my lizard martial-artist as the pet-friendly type.

In that vein I had to laugh last night. A wandering fairly new player asked if he could join me for a bit to get some carbine experience (he was only on carbines I). I was doing CL25 missions as I am 2 boxes from master but I said sure why not. Company is nice sometimes.
He helped out and my pet mountain krevol tanked and we both had a good time. After a few missions he asked me why the heck my health was going down every fight when nothing got near me. Needless to say I don't think he's choosing carbineer for his advanced profession hehe. I think watching my ham plummet every special scared him off.
At least I am almost finished mastering doctor now so I too can join the "there's nothing wrong with carbine ham usage" folks.

Then I invite you to do two things:
Play a carbineer and develop valuable data which you can then use to make an informed decision instead of a complaint about complaints.
Cease bumping threads you disagree with by voicing said disagreement.

Tonight i was hunting with group on dathomir. We were about 6.
My role, as others consisted mainly of defeating the creatures. But..
I seemed to be the only one to have a knockdown. Let me tell you that the couple of seconds a bolma goes down on the kockdown, with the bonus and 6 people shooting at it, it was pretty usefull. Also, when a lizard or bolma was attacking one of our members, i would warning shot it, action shot it then charge shot it. The victim had way enough time to re-engage safely the mob. I felt very useful. Find good teammates and don't quit improving your skills. Once you get the speed and accuracy line, it become a lot of fun. I don't feel weak at all in a party.
The stacking bleeds is great, but frequently the monster runs away to die and the game bugs out and give you no exp or loot access.
The HAM costs are amusing. I've often been fighting and using bleeds/legshots to soften up my target, then looked up at my HAM bars and thought '**edit**? I haven't taken any damage and I'm almost dead already??' Then I remember, I did 2 bleeds and 3 kneecaps, and it was about an even trade with the monster.
Don't get me wrong, I love the class. I find myself laughing out loud with chargeshot, since I'm usually rinning in for a tka-style kill and the kd is slightly less expensive than kd2 for tka. The animation is much more fun than the tka kd. Just doesn't do much damage.
As for being the party bleeder/kd'er, it's not happening for me. I usually go with a rifleman and a commando, so their bleeds are significantly more useful than mine. I'm the 'make them kneel so I can run away' guy. That and since I have good armor/tka powerboost, I can tank for a minute while they get to safety.

There's two types of people in the game, those that learn the pros and cons of a class and benefit from it, and those that whine 'I'm nerfed.'
