Coming from Rifleman to Carbineer one major disappointment for me is the significant difference in defenses. Recently Rilfeman got a nice boost do defenses that brought melee defense to 40 and ranged defense to 72 at master. Since they are supposed to be the longest ranged attackers his makes some sense. So keeping that in mind and comparing the Carbineer's and Pistoleer's ideal ranges I think they should change our defenses and Pistoleer defenses such that they follow the same example Rifleman defenses do now.

Rifleman +40 melee +72 Ranged that's 112 total defense points for these two. Specific defenses can stay as they are. So with 112 points to divide between ranged and melee defense I'd suggest putting Carbineer at 56 melee56 ranged and Pistoleer at 72 melee 40 ranged. That way all three of these advanced weapons professions have equal defenses and these defenses are more appropriate for the role they play in combat. Rifleman at range, Pistollers in the thick of things and Carbineers in between them.

Just some thought on relating to the "speed" and "range" issue on how a carbine is used or purpose design.

Quick background information on myself so you can see where I am coming from:

SSG in the US Army, 19D Cavalry Scout (Jack of all Trades, Master of Combat)

I have been deployed twice now and have used many types of weapons, US and other country, and have been to many weapon training schools here within the NATO countries.

The Assault Rifle is the main stay of the military as it provides a high percent of accuracy and range, and in most cases with heave barrels can maintain a high rate of fire and ammunition load. Downsides for me in the past have been with the size of rilfes in conditions such as jungle or urban warfare, and in the case of US rifles 5.56 mm is like throwing darts at targets not alot of stopping power...*sorry nothing SWG related personal gripe *

The Carbine, in many cases is a shortened version of a rifle already in use or in some cases a modular system, and in no way should really be confused with what many of us are confusing with a Sub-Machine Gun (SMG most notably MP5, MAC 10, Uzi, UMP-45), Most true Carbines still use the same Rifle calibre ammunition of its usual parent rifle (again there are specifically designed Carbines that are not parented by any rifle ( P90, FAMAS, AK74U). These are designed for roles such as the Urban Warfare role or jungle enviorment where size can be an issue. However, due to there shorter barrels they lose range, velocity and a minor decrease in accuracy. With the lighter barrels they lose some of the rate of fire due to overheating, but many of them do pick up their cyclic rate of fire (Rate of Fire being the sustained rate at which they can fire before overheating, Cyclic Rate being how many Rounds Per Minute they can fire). Also they are much easier to wield, put on target, fire quick reaction shots, and in general tend to be more useful in todays modern battlefield.

Pistols have never been a mainstay as far as primary weapon, they are issued to Tankers, Vehicle Scouts, clerks, supply guys, and officersas a last defense weapon. While some pistols are nice, others are not worth the metal they are made of (M9 most notably). Generally calibred in .45 or 9mm they offer short range defense, quick reaction and in some case combined melee and ranged fighting, however, the average pistol effective range is 50m, where as the average rifle effective range is 300-500m, with 7.62mm reaching out to 800m. Also there accuracy suffers in most case to short barrels of 10" or less, and have far less velocity, which in turn results in less kinetic energy therefore in terms of SWG damage. There are of course machine pistols, which in no way makes them a primary weapon, but counters many of the accuracy issues with pistols by launching alot of rounds down range in hopes of hitting the target.

I personally am issued an M4 Carbine with Picatanny Rail system with the Trijicon Reflex Sight, PAQ-4 Infra-Red Laser Sight, Surefire Millinieum Weapons light, and flip up rear sight, I am very pleased with the versatility of this weapon (minus the low stopping power of the 5.56mm round and the inherent faults in the M16 firing mech. faults), its both fast, and has range comparable with its big brother the M16A2, however its lighter with the same ammo, and all the extra gear, while, when stock collapsed is almost a foot shorter.

Now, I play this game for the Star Wars theme as I love it, and wouldnt want to base alot of the game on real life, no CS-StarWars mod, however things that are in the movies and in the books that are not addresses in the games are more support weapons, tripod mounted machine guns, lasers... etc... just general support weapons, that in someways Commando attempts to make up for.

Just thought Id throw my 2cents in there, as I actually use these weapons and have the experience with them and thier uses, as used today.

Again this is based on my knowledge and my experience, Im sure there are great pistols, rifles, SMGs, and Carbines I have not addresses, but this is just a generalzation

ok me personaly i just droped bh for carbineer cause i chalanged this sharpshooter to a duel and i use carbine as a bh in 2 hits from point blank range i was down.so i said forget this and dropeded it for carbineer.the day i got novice carbineer i went to anchor to test my new prof in a duel so i challenged a pistoler he said ok and we dueled.i just kept pumping out fullauto singel 2 and incaped him.full auto singal 2 i think is an excelent attack.the ham cost were bad but not as bad asbh.and action shot could at least always make um bleed cause when it dosent u do no dmg and u used up 1/6 of ur ham.

(ohhh and i was wondering is cripple shot good)

So thats it,I guess we are dead in the water now.I hope they fix carbine at least to be the last thing fixed rather than never.I am the top row from master and yes I agree with SOJ completely and many others. The one thing Im baffled by is how I can put tons of damage on a graul mauler but when it comes to PvsP against a pistoleer hardly any damage is done.Ive noticed the damage i do on creatures is far gereater than my friend who is in the pistoleer tree maybe halfway through it or a bit more but when it comes to us dueling he destroys me and it is not even close.Maybe Im doin something wrong I dont think I am though from what Ive been reading here.

Cause in PvP all "Enemys" have a much higher Ranged Defense than any Carbineer has !

Check your Combat Log, mostly you dont even hit them !

Well sadly, the next big patch is on TC, and yet again, nothing about Carbineer. But Chef is getting a revamp. Im sorry but from a programming standpoint, revamping an entire profession seems alittle harder than just debugging a combat profession. It might just be me though. And it seems that TH is a few months late of his response to this issue. Don't expect this profession to be fixed for a few more months at least. We might as well delete this whole thread, it has done nothing it seems. But keep your fingers crossed, and dont hold your breath. Maybe they will get to it eventually. BE has been fixed, and Chef is now getting an overhaul, but I foresee DE is next, then maybe Carbineer. LOL yeah right.
