Incidentally, I didn't really see the arguments of carbineers being out of line with the crossing of boundaries. Carbineers are asking to be able to apply states to high end mobs, not to be able to do a lot of damage to them (although that would be nice). And I haven't really heard much about low defenses, except that counterattack isn't firing as much as it could (and even that isn't a major issue). The only real argument I have heard which would have carbineers cross boundaries would be adding new damage types, which would probably beretracted somewhat if high end mobs could be blind-stunned-dizzied-knockdowned.

I'll plug to carbineer community here...

It is important to remember this profession does not attract the uber, kill'em all, I want my "I win" button- types and that is readily reflected in the desires of this community. This community really wants balance. They want a balanced and playable Carbineer but they equally want a balanced Rifleman and Pistoleer. Unfortunately, because of the powertrip some professions have been riding for the past months, I am not sure those communities can say the same about themselves.

In my experience, the most rational and reasonable Riflemen out there are easy to spot. I just check their badge list for the telltale:

...has mastered the Combat Medic profession.

and ignore them. Everyone else is pretty kosher in terms of wanting things to work.

I love to keep the pot stirred.....

And it is funny how all the ranged profs are asking for a lot of what we have already......

BTW, we don't need any more defenses, just a working Counterattack

Wouldn't a working version of a currently broken defense qualify as more defenses?

/flee

And my own opinion would include a little more Ranged defense and a spot of Melee defense. We are close assault troopers.

Technically fixing a Defense we already have is NOT more defenses.....but I see your point.

Ranged and Melee Defense needs to be balanced along the thought lines of more offense = less defense.

Thanks for the discussion jfang. I agree with most of your points and it is quite true that the rest of the messed up PvP situation is making the CM's look horribly out of balance when they may not be too far out....

Although I don't see why the 75% PvP reduction doesn't apply......seems like that needs fixed....maybe that is why the Devs are saying they are not going to nerf CM's....

It is all guesswork at this point.....

I won't answer that here, as this would likely open another can of worms. If you are curious though, you cansee my explanationto your question in this thread:

While not opening a can of worms (and keeping up with your post count )your explanation there with what damage levels we see today make MY POINT perfectly....thank you.

With the way I get stacked from a CM the DPS from the DOT is easily 4X what I can do in PvP today, so a 75% reduction would "fix" it......

LOL, I don't even like the way that sounds....the whole system is so messed up lets put the 1000th layer of bandaid on this wound instead of stitching it up....

What a mess SOE has created....nerf this, nerf that, no go bad and un-nerf this, wait go nerf over there too......what a mess.....

It is all about balance and with so many other things changing in a couple months, who knows, the CM might not get touched but be screwed in PvP......hard to tell from here.

Which leads to the next two posts in that thread, which in summary say "there are lots of other circumstances, so a pure DPS calculation is not a valid calculation, as it is comparing apples to oranges", similar to comparting the DPS of an elite carbine to a geo sonic pistol. You can make the comparison and it does mean something. However, there are a lot of other variables (AP, armor, skills, special attacks, speed cap, damage type, etc.) bouncing around which a pure DPS calculation does not take into account, which renders the DPS calculation misleading and not really useful. (And that is the crux of 80% of the debate about combat medic poisons, exactly how all these variables interplay.)

And incidentally, the "stacking of poisons" (not including the advent of Halva, which has been brought forward to the devs as a game breaking function, but which has not received an official line about despite our correspondent, and I think the chef and doctor correspondents'yellings) is also a well established argument. If you want, I can explain that as well, even arguing your side too if you really want (like I said, these are all well established debates where both sides are almost scripted ). However, unless you post a request asking me to get into that discussion... If nothing else, it will bring me closer to that carbine...

Only 9,826 posts to go.

Edit: corrected count, oops.

Does anybody know what happened with the 19 answers session? Has there been an official statement saying "sorry we are late, it will be done on the 24 and all other answers pushed back a week"?

Does anybody else find it humorous how TH answered the questions on time when on vacation, but didn't upon coming back to work...
