  • State effects are not applied to high end mobs (which typically have really high resists to our damage) removing any distinction or contribution to high end content

I'm with this one too. it seems that anything with a CL over 30 is immune. I don't know if its just us though. The only State I've seen on a Krayt is intimidate, and I'll assume its being done by folks with a lot of BE clothing. With high-end NS being immune to our damage types, and our states, we do seem to run into a "Carbineer Go Home" theme on high-end mobs.

I can apply all 3 states to Enraged Rancors And they are listed at level 80 but an Ancient Bull Rancor at level 98 seems to be immune. Although I have only fought a dozen or so of them so inconclusive.

While Nightsisters are a HUGE issue, at the same time I don't think I should be applying states to an Ancient Krayt.....which I wasn't.

I think the main disadvantage I'm hearing on my server even from true new players is, "Why should I use Carbines? I can do more damage as rifles, get better loot, more weapons, the best damage types, fight in PvP and PvE..."

People who own their game, if they get their friends to play suggest people play rifleman.

I don't think the CB is gonna fix that syndrome.

Advantage...

Carbine requires Skills, technique, observation, tactics and experience. A good carbineer is not only someone that mastered the profession but someone that learned how each skills reacts to a target. I respect every carbineer, they are better then adverage pvpers or pveEr. Even the most elite Riflemen/TKM will be considered a newbie compare to a Master Carbineer that truely mastered his weapon. This is why I will never drop carbines... I try to share as much information as possible, from rumors to truth, worse happen.. the rumors get's confirmed or thrown away I often have novice carbineer following me around and learning how to use their weapon, it's really fun! !!BUT!! Each time I log on this forum, i'm learning new stuff, new ways to use my skills and of course in the end, the carbineer community is the greatest of all. This is the main advantage

Granted, but given that most of our effectiveness is derived from state effect attacks, the bottomline is, in high end PvE, we're useless.

When I did the Corvette with a group of people, I basically stopped shooting and just hit the TKMs with my stim Cs.

I've been pretty effective against low to mid level Nightsisters, and the high end ones, again, are a waste of my time for lack of ability to cause damage.

Krayt Dragons? Well, I have pulled a successful KD attack on them, so I can live with that. The TKA tanks love me for it.

Either we need an uptick in our damage output, or we need to be WAY more effective at landing states than the other two professions, or we're simply never going to be effective participants in high end content.

End of line.

I agree but am a bit picky I suppose......I can apply all 3 states to Level 80 Enraged Rancors.....that seems good enough to me. Now the NPC's that is a different story....

My take on NPCs is, "I don't care how tough you are, you still have eyes, you can be Blind, you have ears, you can be Dizzy, you have feet, and I can whap you off of them."

They don't mind telling us in the form of documented resists how hard it is to damage them, so you'll pardon me that I'm really annoyed they won't tell us how effectively we can razzle dazzle them with states.

More importantly, and this will be the only reason I disagree with you TA, if we're a profession that lives and dies by state attacks, it would be nice if our ability to land those states was reflective of this dependence.

Maybe I wasn't clear.....I think creatures are fine but NPC's should be more vulnerable to states.....

Advantages: (Most have been covered plenty, I'll just touch on a few)

- We are a unique profession. TK, fencers, swordsmen, pistoleers, commandos, riflemen are all a dime a dozen. When 2 carbineers (and even 2 pikemen for that matter) run into each other, there is a high level of mutual respect.

- long distanceAOE dizzy/area KD (and other state attacks)

- great as a support role, especially when brawlers are in your group

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Disadvantages: (same as above)

- Lack of damage types

- speed is unbalanced against other professions

- damage is unbalanced against other professions

- weapons are unbalanced against other professions (DXR6 is 2-3 times slower than DX2 pistol, yet has a very similar damage range and only AP1 -make them faster, increase the damage, or increase to AP2 - fixing just one of these should help greatly - same applies to the elite carbine)

- AP values are unbalanced against other professions - all of our good weapons are AP1, same as pistol, rifle gets AP3, we should get an AP2 (I'll cover laser carbine below)

- lack of defenses compared to other professions (with counterattack broken, we have similar defenses to a BH, with the exception of a couple state defenses)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall, I like carbineer, and I intend to keep it. I feel it was intended for fighting in groups, and not as much for 1 vs 1 fighting. Personally, I like the feel ofthe wayit promotes a well balanced team, who workswell together asopposed to one griefing CM/riflemanrunning in and taking out whole groups of people alone. Hopefully, some of that will be fixed with the CB.

As for laser carbine, I do not consider it a great weapon. Yes it has AP2, and a high max damage compared to other carbines, but it has that extremely low min damage, which puts thedps much lower than the elite carbine. AP2 helps some here, but not enough to compare to the high high damage of rifles, or the high high speed of pistols. Factor in damage mitigation and the DPS drops even more.

(oops, forgot one)

Disadvantage:

- dizzy seems to have no effect on creatures at all. (yes, this applies to any profession that has a dizzy attack)

It's all been said, no use beating a dead horse. I just can't beleive that the devs are going to allow our profession in PvP simply due to the 80% resist armor. Why couldn't the Slugthrower been kinetic dmg or Acid AP 2 or even COLD/STUN. Carbines just can't cut through the armor nowadays, even with BHer carb 4. Nova you're our only hope!
