Thread: Regarding the new CU carbines..

TA, if you will re-read my initial post, then you will see this line:

This no doubt applies to all combat proffessions who have there new weapon certs in other proffessions, so the problem is not uniquely carbineer related.

Yes, as a carbineer, I am approaching this from a carbineers perspective, but the same idea applies to pistoleers with the new pistol certs, and for riflemen, and so and so for all the single focused combat proffessions. I think its good that hybrid proffessions get carbine certs, pistol certs, etc, but I do feel an elite combat proffession, a focused combat proffession, is entitled to use all the weapons that fall into the category it covers.

It's quite simple, in the case of carbines, a carbineer can use the carbines that hybrids get (as well as the ones they get themselves), and so 'both' proffessions benefit. This applies to pistols, rifles, melee weapons, etc, etc. I do not see a problem with balance, as it gives more of the new stuff for everyone, and you could even make it a perk for mastering an elite combat proffession; total weapon mastery. And I don't think the argument that certain carbines were made for a specific hybrid holds water, as then what does 'master carbineer' mean?

I was hoping for a positive response, as this is important, and yes this is an issue i'd raise on other proffession forums (if it hasn't already been), because I am a person who believes in fairness.

The problem is not that we cant use those weapons. Its the same problem it has alwase been.

We dont have enough weapons in the game. We alwase had sevral less weapons to choose from than the pistoleers and riflemen. They would get 4 or more new weapons to our 1. If we had more weapons and styles not having those certs would not matter.

Fixing our current guns for the TWO whole damage types in-game now along with the minor FOUR elemental types that are just add-ons seems more important than having 20 that don't work worth a darn.....but every person sees things differently I guess.

TA, if you know where they are certed, then share with us, and if you can't, then why bring it up? It just feels like yourholding information over us. As for your remark of being upset longer over the new gun certs than us, well of course you've known longer, as99%us haven't been told much of anything right upuntil the last couple of weeks.

I'd have thought you'd 'want' carbineers to have more carbines? And this CU betais the ideal time to ensure that they'are' all worth a damn,so don't you want to push for that as our correspondent? And feel free to also mention the same for 'all' weapons that are certed outside of there respective elite combat proffession (i.e. certed tohybrids only), so many more weapons can be 'multi-certed', so it's fairer for more people and elite combatproffessions. You have more chance of being heard by a developer than we do.

What firehawk is saying is, He'd rather not be where Commando's are currently on live. They have 40 certed weapons, only 1 of which is truelly effective for them, the flamethrower...

Which is being fixed in the CU, and if it can be done for commando, then it can be done for any proffession. We probably won't get another chance like this.

What do you think I am doing....my god wake up and smell the coffee folks....I play this game too and listen to each and every poster here, reading every single post on this forum and many on other forums.

There are already 6 new Carbines coming in the CU and all our existing ones are being changed.....hell the Nym's Slugthrower is becoming CRAFTABLE for example.

About knowing the certs, of course I knew where they all were....but the Laser changed so who knows what else will change from the last update I had weeks ago.

BTW, I love getting to use large fonts and colors

Remember that proffessions will no longer be shuned upon when you dabble, they want you to now. If you want to used a carbine from smuggler or something along that line go smuggler and get it! dabble is good for you!

Let me make this simple, TA. Do you think a 'master carbineer' should have access to all the carbines in the game? You don't seem to give much assurance beyond 'lets hope..'. Is it in your power to speak to a dev about this, via a specific forum? It's clear where my stance is, and allowing some carbines to be 'multi-certed' across different proffessions will ensure its fair. I ask any carbineer here the same question, so what do you think?

And Bonestrand, while yes you can dabble, the simple fact is you can spend 106 pts (CU cost, but is it set in stone?) to master carbineer, but not be able to use all the carbines in the game. And you'll be hard pressed to have enough skill points to dabble enough to get access to all the carbines, so in my mind, 'master carbineer' can't be a master with carbines, as they can't use all carbine type weapons as defined by the game mechanics. In my first post I also listed the discrepency between skillpoints to master carbineer and skillpoints to be able to 'use' all the carbines. It's a major difference in points.

Let me make this simple for YOU.....read the posts from the Devs if you can (not sure if it was in CU Forum and I am on TC5 and won't bother looking it up right now) but they clearly have expanded the weapon usage of all profs. They have put in VK's, Pistols, Rifles, and yes even Carbines for SPECIFIC SINGLE HYBRID PROFS ONLY.

Not sure how to make it any more clear......

I would love to see multi-cert'd weapons.....and if you would please read the appropriate threads already in this Forum you would find out that is my exact position....it is the only position of compromise.

And thanks for letting me use more big letters with color.....YUMMY

BTW, it takes well over 300 Skill Points to be cert'd in all the Carbines in SWG now.....

  1. We will never be certed for all carbines. It just won't happen, so pleasefocus on something else. One of things they're aiming at is to give each profession as much uniqueness as possible. Besides, how cool is a weapon if everyone and their dog can use it?

  2. We do not have as many carbines as I would like. The best solution I see it not to take them away from other professions, but to allow certifications in multiple places. While many agree with this, it runs opposite to one of the goals of the CU mentioned above. Regardless, I will continue to push this in the CU forums once we begin focusing on the elite professions. Hopefully a viable compromise will be reached.

  3. Listen to TA, he know's what he's doing

Is the Underslung Carbine even available on the frogs? Is that a Carbineer weapon?

I am pretty sure that was pulled from the initial CU Publish because of art/animation issues. I have the certs for the 6 officially announced Carbines and the Underslung is not one of them.

And now that I looked at the Friday Feature on CU Weapons again, there areonly 5 officially announced Carbines for the CU....but the E5 is probably coming out too as the SL Carbine....subject to change of course
