Thread: Are carbineers pleased with the CU?

Not happy
We can do more now is not the right phrase since we can only dish out more damage as pre CU, thus we have an obvious higher impact on PvP and PvE with more damage but the uniqueness of carbineer aka crowd control is lost.
We lost a lot of our main pre CU task: area attacks and posture changes, both are striped down to a not very usefull single target KD and single target snare with supression fire broken.
I fully agree with you. Right now combat feels more like a marathon contest than like fighting for me. Teamwork is not possible, whenever i open fire, i become the target, the real tanks don't manage to draw the enemy from me again.
If a medic takes care for me, the NPC turns over to the medic and takes him down, so standing and delivering is no option. My only way to win is to snare the target and keep my distance, leaving the rest of the team behind. No real fun, so currently i mostly fight alone. (Yeah! That's exactly why i have master squad leader, so i can fight alone...*sigh*)
Knockdown by itself is almost worthless in PvE, it costs the target one combat round to stand up again and finito. I wish i still had a way to inflict stun and dizzy on the target to keep it down (and thus unable to fight) for a little longer. In PvP i can imagine it to give trouble to an unexperienced player still, the experienced ones know how to use their knockdown recovery, end of story.
So the only helpful thing we have is snare... and only the one target version of crippling shot seems to really help, the supression fire sometimes delivers a snare-symbol, but the time is so short that it doesn't really matter. ![]()
So right now the only positive of Carbineer is the massive damage capacity, followed by a single-target snare, which is not exactly what i understand as "crowd control". Pretty disappointing.
Other big disappointments are the facts that damage is based so much on levels while armour and defences have little meaning and the fact that the variety of used weapons even was decreased instead of increased with the CU. [Before CU, the different damage types mattered, making every decent Carbineer carry a DXR6, Laser and EE3. If you had Krayt tissue spare, one or another E11 entered your collection, too. Right now, DPS is the only deciding factor and the level of the gun decides about the DPS. No matter what quality materials the Weaponsmith has, the MC will use the Elite Carbine or E11 MK. II, everything else is inferior.

Sorry not happy that they took away our tools of the trade.

Update. happier
have a nice selection of AOE's now:
full auto area (Weak and slow generic damage AOE)
spray shot (Bounty hunter special)
burst shot (aoe stun)(Pistoleer special)
fan shot (aoe from pistol, hard hitting)(pistoleer special)
suppression fire (once it's fixed that is)(requires you to stand still for one turn in combat. Detrimental when you have agroed a large number of bad guys)
oh, and stopping shot (root)(another pistoleer special)

To put it in perspective...
PRE CU-
Druu kills self with carbine quicker than kills enemy
Druu can area aggro
POST CU-
Druu lives, and still has the power to kill the enemy
Can't area aggro effectively now.
Don't get me wrong, I still rely on my CM skills to keep me and my peeps alive, but overall I am loving the fact that Carbineers are still pretty wicked as damage dealers... all with my trusty lil E-11 Mk II... who'd have thunk?
DO I like the CU? Yes. But I never thought I would say that.

I don't see how someone could be a Carbineer and not have BH Carbines 4 atleast. We have mostly area attacks and I think rapid fire is broken. But MC, and MBH is a great combo.
Rapid Fire is fine and we don't have JACK for Area Attacks.....are we playing the same prof because you are describing SWG pre-CU?
Your statement is totally wrong/backwards. If anything the LAST LINE of BH to take is the Carbs Line. The mods and Specials don't do diddly for a Master Carbineer whereas in the Pistol and Rifle Lines you get some different Specials. The only thing that might be nice in the Carb Line is the Speed Mods but even those aren't enough to turn away from Pistol/Rifle Specials in BH.
If a MASTER Carbineer wants to take BH but not go MBH, then now in the CU it is the opposite of pre-CU....do NOT take BH Carbs only now.

It makes sense because I am doing it all while being a Master Carbineer and using a Carbine. Yeah I had to take other trees to get the shots I liked, but at least I am using a carbine to deliver them.
Some of you are still thinking pre CU game mechanics when post CU is totaly different.( I used to as well)
Adapt or go home.
So far so good. I like not having to visit a doc to get buffed to do missions on Endor, or even hope I stat migrated enough to put on good armor. Been playing galaxies since day 1. Seen alot of changes, some good, some not so good. Never went up carbineer before but i'm enjoying it. So far my template is: Marksman: 0/0/4/4, Medic: 0/4/0/0, Carbineer: 3/1/2/0, MBH
I've got a lil question or an observation, or whatever you'd like to call it.
I'm currently going up the Carbineer profession and noticed I get to use an E11 Carbine mark II once I Master Carbineer. I bought an E11 Mark II a good week or 2 before the CU and an elite carbine after the CU. (I'm at work right now and can't check to see if the elite carbine can be used by any ranged person.) But I noticed that the elite carbine has more dps then my E11 mark II. I'm wondering why my E11 Mark IIhas weaker dps thanmy Elite carbine, when you have to master carbineer just to use the E11 Mark II?
I'm also thinking that a big reason why the E11has lower dps is cause I bought it before the CU. Any comments or ideas welcome, thanks.

From what I have seen for sale since the CU from our Sunrunner smith's. the 2 guns are nearly identical DPS. I have seen a few more MKII's higher though. I think that is because it's a new gun and smithies are playing with them more is all

Im very disappointed in having been turned from a unique crowd control specialist into just another ranged weapons stacker who happens to use a Carbine.
