Thread: Pistoleer vs Carbineer
I dumped Master Pistoleer for Carbineer. . . err, Carbinier. . . no, Carbineer.
My problem with Pistol is that the advantage of pistol is it's speed. I had a spd 1.4 pistol that with my speed bonuses I should have been firing at less than a second. But because the minimum delay is 1.0, I was being bumped up and losing the pistol's speed advantage.
Then there's the weapon selection. Pistoleer gets one AP weapon, the DX2 certification at Novice Carbineer. It does AP1 and acid damage. If you run into an armored mob with high acid damage, you're screwed.
Carbine gets multiple AP weapons, particularly the laser carbine at Carbine III (yeah, under Marksman). The laser does AP2 and energy. The DXR6 does AP1 and acid. So with Carbineer you have some choices against armored mobs.
If you compare knockdown attacks, Carbineer has a ranged KD, while Pistoleer's KD is pointblank only. And Carbineer gets an AE ranged KD (once it gets fixed).
Most of the style attacks for both professions are broke atm. If I were you, just pick what you have fun with and stick with it. The game is constantly evolving. If you try to reskill with every change, you'll never stop. ![]()
They really need to give us edit buttons. . .
Under my third paragraph about the DX2. . . I obviously meant "armored mobs with high acid resists" then you'd be screwed.
But that'smoot as from what I've read, the armor piercing capabilities of the DX2are currently broke.
Irecently surrendered pistoleer 2-4-2-2 for carbine. And am beginning to think it was a mistake. I needed something with a bit more range as I am a Ranger, but didn't want a speed of 9.
In my expierance Carbines are more accurate than pistol, judging from the chance to hit number on the target. However when I was a pistoleer I could fight several mobs at the same time and use specials for most every attack, while wearing full Composite armor and after the fight still energy to dance a jig.
Now I fight 2 mobs use maby 3 specials the whole fight and only survive if I dont get hit. Afterwards it's tent time for a few min before I can do anything else.
Also the weapon it's self. My DX2 would average arround 55-60 DPS all acid baced which few things are resistant to, incuding armors. The best elite carb I could find was 48 DPS after slice, and energy dammage. As far as elite weapons go the carbineer gets the worst one.
I plan to stick with it for a while and pray it all works out in the end.
Current DPS stats onuseful weapons(IE, higher end, notTuskens and the like) from my current Smithing runs, vs AP 0 with no resistance (or vulnerability which negates the AP) to that damage type, also note that this does not take into account your current speed modifications. Second number is 35% damage slice and a 33% max damage/16.5% minimum damagepowerup:

I'm unable to build Jawa Ions and Scatters due to lack of materials, and T21's still have yet to be craftable. Your mileage may vary by a couple points either way due to Crafter skill and materials on hand.
