Thread: Pistoleer vs Carbineer
My buddy wants me to go carbineer because he is... So I'm mulling the advantages of pistoleer and I understand them to be:
1) Faster shots (at least after the rework)
2) Better bleeds
3) Better at close range
4) Accuracy improvemts grouped in one master tree branch
5) Lower Ham costs
He argues for carbines mostly based on the fact that he can occasionally pull 2k damage on a shot...
Is there anything I am missing?
Also, if I were to convince him to go pistoleer, does anybody know if bleeds are cummulative? I know healthshot1 and 2 add up from me, but if 10 people put healthshot 1 and 2 on a creature, will it bleed 10x as fast?
Thanks!

I think its fair to say we are both equally broken.
both are cones are broken
both are action/body shot 3 nerfed.. all though now devs say its supposed to be a cone *roll eyes* i remember they talking about it in Beta.
meh anyways
Advantages to both
Our HAM costs are huge, if your too far in pistoleer I wouldnt switch, I myself am staying in carbine hoping for some type of fix, I'm seriously thinking about going to Pistoleer.
Currently the HAM costs on carbines are insane, but the Devs should be addressing this soon (hopefully, along with the other balance problems across the board).
Assuming this gets fixed, just go with what you like, as Taallyn said.

Meh i wouldnt switch yet, wait to see what they do. Pistoleer aint all that special without Doctor or BH skills backing it IMO
Well, I am a doctor too... so I guess nothing too compelling :> Thanks for the responses!

The person I group with the most uses a carbine while I use a pistol. It tends to work out pretty well actually. My advice is to go with the skill that you enjoy for whatever reason. Otherwise, you won't really feel like it's your character If you switch skills just because someone else tells you that he wants you to be like him. It's your game, play it the way you want because in the end, the idea is to have fun.
While I like pistol, it seems that it would make more sense for us both totarget the same HAM bar... which is what is prompting the mulling...

1) Right now carbines have way higher potential DPS due to the same cap
2) Yes and No, you bleed Health which is usually what a mob dies to which makes it more useful. But Carbines have higher damage on the most part so DoTs do more a tick for carbines. If 10 people do the same bleed no it will not stack, but if the bleeds are different they will stack.
3) Yep
4) Carbines also have more useful attacks over different branches.
5) I disagree, I can drain my HAM with in 10-15 seconds with a pistol which is comparable to most carbine attacks. If you use something like Disarm 2 it will be drained in 5 seconds (comparable to Crippling Shot). Generally speaking carbines will use a bit more HAM but you are getting more damage out of it so it balances out.
Pool specific damage is also overrated, the best attacks atm for both Pistoleer and Carbine are random HAM so it's not that critical.
Truth of the matter is that the gun classes are a lot more balanced that people would like to admit. Every class right now thinks they are the most broken but really they each have their pros and cons are are pretty balanced. (Even though if all of them are broken to some extent).

I would fundamentally disagree with this. I would challenge anyone to prove that, prior to capping speeds, they could reliably kill faster with their random HAM attacks than with their targeted HAM attacks. Heck, even after capping speeds, it would be difficult. With anything that has more than 3000 HAM (which is bottom of the barrel on any advanced planets), lucky one shots aren't the issue.
It appears to me that the best case for random HAM kills are health, which seem to be hit 50% of the time or less. And I've yet to find a random HAM attack that has twice the DPS of a target HAM attack (I suppose Last Ditch might), and until one surfaces, the only reason I can see to use Random HAM is for status effects or because you are grouping and your targeted HAM doesn't match what the rest of the group is attacking. And since we don't have any status effects, and most of the random HAM stuff hits health, you can't even begin to touch BodyShot in terms of kill rate.
