I only have specials on my combat toolbars.

Toolbar 1 is all carbine specials. First block contains group attacks and the second and third contain single attacks.

Toolbar 2 is all pikeman specials. Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment... I am a carbineer/pikeman. Same setup as carbine specials with the first secion being area attacks and the last 2 single attacks.

Everything I use or will use after pub 7 fits on the top row of each toolbar so I don't have to do "shift +" when I'm fighting.

Toolbar 3houses all of my weapons in the top row and all of my armor in the bottom row. I have 5 carbines and 4 pikes I use, plus a few macros for equiping and removing armor.

Toolbar 4 is food and spice. First block is filled with muon and a macro that sends me alerts for when I am about to hit a downer. Second block is food. Third block is drink and in f12 I keep a lone neutron pixie for health emergencies.

I have auto typing turned off and all non-combat tasks mapped to keys. Enter starts the chat for me. H uses a stim, P does /peace, U does /stand (to get me up from the dizzy/KDs), etc. I have the numbers mapped to macros to arm any one of my weapons with a single keystroke. 1 arms my elite and switches the toolbar to my carbine specials. 2 arms my ee3 and switches toolbars. 3 for the laser, 4 for the drx6 and 5 for a snub. 6 arms my main pike and switches to toolbar 2 for pike specials. 7,8,9 arm different nightsister lances with various dots and switch to the pike toolbar.

Matatodos, that is some excellent advice! I didn't know this game could do that and I'll be setting something up similar tonight!

this just goes to show no matter what the devs do we will always have problems

and as for the pissing contest do you guys have all of your weapons and stuff hotkeyed too ( as a doc I've been picking and choosing which specials are worth using so I can keep all of my weaps keyed and all the doc stuff keyed so I can save my friends' asses )

I, for one, won't have any problems placing the new specials. The few that aren't placed already will just replace my non-working Squad Leader buttons.

well, I have all my weapons hotkeyed on my Ctrl-F2 bar... along with my wound/buff packs (for now)

The other thing I have found really helpful is to set "start chat command" to /

What this does is put a / in chat and put the cursor there... since most of the communication you do is /t, /r, /gt, /gu anyway, most of the time you won't even have to adjust your message typing.

It will take some getting used to, and you'll be doing some random things until you are used to it, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to do just about anything in the game with the stroke of a key (you can also assign macros to individual keys, as I pointed out before in changing weapons).

uhh dunno if you guys didnt know this but you can resize toolbar so that each number has 20 buttons, just make it bigger vertically and you get 2 rows...

20 buttons? You must have a broken keyboard as it is 24
