Thread: Carabineer??
Guess it is time for this to come up again.....happens every month or two.....
Originally SOE used Carabineer as our title but changed it before release. Even our in-game master title was 'mis-spelled' until Publish 7.....

You tried to silence me when I made a thread like this a while back, TA. But you need to realize that it keeps coming up because it's one of the biggest Carbineer issues today. Would I rather have area KD or a proper spelling of our forum name? I'd have to flip a coin on that one.

ROFLMAO.......but I sure don't remember any of your posts
Doesn't matter, I never silenced anybody on this now or before or any other topic/post that follows the Seven Daily Rules.....just pointing out my opinion on this subject.....take it or leave it.
BTW, read theFORUM NAME, not the URL.....unless you are looking for some different spelling than Carbineer......

Kind of funny to me, I never ever heard of a carabineer, but I have heard of a carabeener (sp). Honestly I think it should be corrected simply becuase its unprofessional to have that kind of mistake in a company owned and operated forum.
The point is it is NOT a mistake and who gives a rats butt about the URL......the FORUM NAME IS SPELLED CONSISTENTLY WITH THE REST OF THE GAME.....in fact the only problem was the inconsitency in-game....spell it either way just make it the same was what we asked for from Day 2 until Publish 7 hit.

Unprofessional???? you have got to be joking right?
Carabineer
Carabinier
Carbineer
Carbine
Lets hope that clears up some confusion here.....
The definition of Carabineer (as in, how the URL is spelled) is "A soldier armed with a carbine." This already assumes us to be soldiers, when I'm sure many Carbineers are of neutral faction. This is entirely untrue.
Carabineer
Carabinier
Carbineer
Carbine

Have you any experience with html programming? If you do then you know that an inconsistency in the spelling of a word in a URL can and does cause problems with linking and finding information sometimes. Armed with that knowledge I do in fact consider it unprofessional for a company to have a forum with a name inconsistency such as "carabineer" in the URL but not in the title of the forum. It seems like quite the small thing to a forum such as this, but if this disparity existed in a medical website database or someplace where valuable information was needed, the disparity could cause that information to be overlooked by a search engine or some other form of information search. Smaller inconsistencies have been known to cost people their jobs in certain places.
In short, no, I'm not joking. I think it's unprofessional of the forum designers, especially if they have adopted your particular attitude that it doesn't much matter.
#1 - this is a private forum that you pay access to of somebody else's intellectual property.....they can force you to use their search vs. google any day
#2 - do you really think this is any sort of an issue compared to the HUGE game issues?
#3 - it was correct at one time....on the beta boards
#4 - Lithium is a nightmare of quirks, lets not crash and trash our entire community of posts when nobody gives a hoot
#5 - this is A GAME, not some medical or government information site....IT IS A GAME and this has NOTHING to do with people having fun playing SWG
FYI, it doesn't matter much but these debates are always fun, if not pointless ![]()
Note: as I tried to submit this I got that blasted "html in post" error LOOL!!!

Partially disagree here, it's not a private forum, its owned and operated by a company. Generally speaking companies hire or employ professionals to do the design work of the forum. That's my basis for saying that it's unprofessional to have even simple inconsistencies such as the url of this forum.
#2 - do you really think this is any sort of an issue compared to the HUGE game issues?
Holy cow absolutely not!
But I think the forum is managed by a different department entirely from the developers of the game.
#3 - it was correct at one time....on the beta boards
Cool. It's good to know that, seriously.
#4 - Lithium is a nightmare of quirks, lets not crash and trash our entire community of posts when nobody gives a hoot
/agree completely

True enough it is a game, no dispute. But going back to point 1, this is a company owned forum and it reflects on the company image and attitude how the forum is designed and maintained. I'm neither upset nor outraged that they have design mistakes, inconsistencies or what have you. I just simply put forth my opinion that it looks unprofessional to have them. That type of thing is the mistake a novice would make, someone that gets paid to create and work on this type of thing should be held to a higher standard, IMO
FYI, it doesn't matter much but these debates are always fun, if not pointless
Nope, not one bit. Just filling some time with idle discussion / debate. No harm or offense intended.
