Sorry if this has been asked, I searched, but maybe I didn't put in the right terms!
As you move up, and get the higher level specials eg (and I know it's a bad example) legshot2 to legshot3, is there a need to keep the old special around on your quickbar?
I've been replacing the old with the new as I increased (sometimes keeping the old as Shift + F Key), however, as I was browsing I saw a shooting macro that had xxshot1; xxshot2 which got me wondering.
Help appreciated as always

For some of the other professions, there might not be much reason to keep a lower level special on your bar, but for carbineer its actually quite desired to do so, since many of the level 1 specials are single target versions, while the cooresponding level 2 shot is a cone AOE.
So if you want to avoid drawing unneeded agro, you'll want to keep the single shots handy
Also, some of the lower level shots are cheaper in the HAM cost, consult the stickied guide for the full numbers

Avoid such things at all costs.....using a shooting macro takes away the best advantage a Carbineer has, his MIND ![]()

The answer to this question is....depends.
Some higher level versions are cone specials. For example burstshot1 is single target and burstshot2 is a cone. If you do not want to use a cone, then burstshot1 is your choice. The same situation exists for chargeshot and wildshot.
In the cases of fullautoarea, fullautosingle and scattershot, the 2 version is superior to 1.

Maybe I'm just a n00b or just totally insain, but the only 2 shots I use are Full Auto Single and Full Auto Area. Always figured that leg shot was more of a PvP set up. Only times I've come to use the leg shots is if I notice that the action bar is almost gone then I spam leg shot if I'm buffed and kills it quicker.

You are not a NOOB as a lot of us use those two shots. For variety I like to mix in some BurstShot2 and CripplingShot but that is just for the hell of it ![]()
And for the final quick kill I use ScatterShot2.

Carbineer is one of the rare professions where you're going to be able to find a role for just about every shot in the arsenal.
FullAutoSingle 1/2 - PvP/NPC state effects
FullAutoArea 1/2 - PvP/NPC state effects w/ multitarget capability.
BurstShot 1 - Rapid fire shot with no state effects and low HAM cost, great for unbuffed combat
BurstShot 2 - Rapid fire cone effect shot with no state effects and low HAM cost, great for unbuffed combat
WildShot 1/2 -Random pool hit w/ limited state effects (Good for creature mobs since FAS is wasted because Dizzy doesn't work on animals and Stun is more effective against a pure melee mob than Blind)
ScatterShot 1/2 - High speed, multipooldamage shot with great potential for the Mind kill.
CripplingShot - When you need it hurt, REAL REAL bad.
ChargeShot1 - The KD
ChargeShot2 - The Cone effect KD
ActionShot2 - Action Bleed w/ Posture Down
SuppressionFire2- Posture Down, picks up where ChargeShot1 leaves off.
LegShot3- Would be nice if it worked, but a multitarget Action hit.

Actionshot1 is a single target posture down
Actionshot2 is a AoE posture down.

Heh, did they ever fix ActionShot2 so it actually put the bleed and posture down on the one you were aiming at? I hated the randomness of it from before.

i personally don't use lower end moves. but i do use a very wide variety of specials to make the most of my skills. i haven't found a lot of use for scatter2, but i haven't really worked with it yet.

Yes, it bleeds and *attempts* to posture the whle group that is in the cone. However, in my many months as a carbineer I do not think I have ever seen a time where actionshot2 landed a posture on every target in a group. The chance to posture down is very low.In contrast, I faily oftenland a KD on whole groups of creatures or NPCs with chargeshot2.

I find it lands often enough for me. I haven't really had much testing in PvP due to the fact that you never get a chance to fire in group PvP because its just poison war. However, when I was doing some factional missions I'd fire FullAutoArea2 a few times + Actionshot2 + Chargeshot2. Almost all the time everyone was either KD'd or kneeling.

And speaking of Posture Down.....I noticed while leveling Fencer that spamming Posture Down, just like KD, will stand critters back up.....
Wish both of these would get fixed...oh well item 1,000,001.....
