Thread: I hate to do this, but there's no choice.

Hey guys, you know me by my other account Rorenikibi (which a certain absentminded individual forgot to renew last night), so I'm posting under my alt account's name, appropriate since he's the Master Carbineer anyway.

After a few recent encounters with some rather annoying griefers on my server I've pretty much drawn the conclusion that so many of us here have known and discussed for months, Carbineers just aren't a PvP capable profession in their current form. So in order to prevent what happened last night, which was several bouts of GTEF'd Combat Medic poisoning done in layered applications to cause triple incap deaths (which cause decay), I'm going to have to pick up a combat profession that works in PvP now.

After a LOT of internal debating I've decided that Carbineer is NOT the profession I intend to drop. Its going to be Creature Handler. For what Carbineer is intended to do, it works well. There's still way too much potential here to walk away from, so along with my carbines, I'll begin to tote rifles starting tonight.

It would have been much nicer if I could make a stand against these people with my carbines alone, they've been the weapons I've been associated with the longest and by far enjoy most (even after having a Flamethrower before the DOT nerf), but against the current grade of composite armor and player tank resists, they just don't get the job done.

Well there is no doubt a Carbineer/Creature Handler can get owned quite easily in PvP.......I was one for a very long time

There is nothing wrong with adjusting your template to match for play style....and for some that means dropping Carbineer. Personally I have invested so much I could never totally give it up and at the same time I have invested enough to make it work for me.

Don't feel bad at all, this is a game....so have fun with it. Changing profs is quite easy and is one of the top reason I am still around

Yeah, its not the idea that I have to change up professions, its why. I've got a group of griefers looking to make my life miserable, and if they cannot grief me, they are looking to grief my guildmates.

I can't let that go unanswered.

For the most part now I don't even get involved in grouping in PvP.....GTEF's are the worst thing to happen to PvP in this game IMO.

If I want to PvP I just go SOLO and pwn everybody until the CM comes along. Well I don't pwn everybody.....those that have uber setups like mine I can't kill but they can't kill me either

Oh I do this maybe once per week....sad state of PvP....

If I ever lost to a template that included CH I'd quit SWG. CH is not good for pvp at all. However, a guildmate of mine, can kill every rifleman/fencer/tkm in the guild quite easily. He is a carbineer himself, so to say that carbines are **edit**ty for pvp... no, the guy kills FOTM's for a living. He has also fought powerful Jedi's, so don't say carbines suck for pvp.

Interesting.....glad most Imps don't share your attitude towards CH or we would be a few Imps shorter on Chilastra.....

The whole basis of carbineer is not to be a solo player, but a criticaladdition to a combat group. The status shots and attack specials geared to action are great for PvE, but hopelessly nerfed for PvP(at least until the combat rebalance). I used to run a commando/carbine template, great for the GCW, but I still needed a group or I'd get slaughtered by any melee prof. I've switched to melee/ranged templates until the rebalance happens since atm the only capable ranged prof is rifleman using mind shots.

The best way to fix the rebalance is to limit the melee range so they can't attack from 30m! PvP combat would be fine if the melees would only be able to attack at melee range, but when a TKM is using dizzy on me from 30m away while I'm burst running away from him there's something wrong. Combat needs to be more realistic and the whole system will be balanced.

Heh, the whole damned rogues gallery of Kettemoor.

V'alin, ValVed Ray, NORE, Abbadon.

They say a man is judged best by the enemies he makes. If that's the case, I think its easy to judge me completely insane for crossing these loons, even if its enough to have be also judged a saint.

Sorry for the Kettemoor threadjack, everyone.

It's true that we are pretty worthless against somebody who is fully outfitted, but who isn't? Even the FOTM classes are the same way, they completely destroy unprepared player, but they have trouble killing those who are truley prepaired and they still get owned by CMs. Going rifleman isn't going to help you do any better against those damned GTEF CMs (but dropping CH will help in PvP as those are wasted SP there).

Actually you can hold your own in PVP. Well as long as CM's arent involved.

And the CM's are in turn easily defeated by those who are prepared for them (doctor-riflemen, for example), who in turn are defeated by those who are prepared for them (riflemen-fencer, for example). And the cycle continues.

It's all a giant game of rock-paper-scissors, where everybody wants to play rock, nobody wants to play scissors, and people complain about the few papers (combat medics) around. They then want to make them ineffective so everybody can run around as the unbeatable (although tie-able to other) rocks...

(Don't mind me. I really need to stop responding to all these passing comments about combat medics... )

Only problem is, espeically with halva, you need 5 scissors to counter 1 paper. While the paper can also beat rocks, and the scissors doesn't actually beat the paper, but just neutralize it.
