Thread: TA: What modded speed bug?

On the jedi boards there have been complaints for a long time that modded speed on lightsabers isn't working, but now I saw TAFirehawk state the same thing in another thread.

I don't understand, because from all my tests modded speed is working just fine. Took two weapons with the exact same speed, but for which I had different speed mods, and there was a clear difference, repeated the test several times with slight variations and still everything seemes to work (I did post parts of the test on the jedi forums and can make another full post if that's wanted)

So I'm asking: What is it exactly that is wrong with the modded speed?

From all i know...

  • wield your weapon, travel, use it, take the times.

  • wield your otherweapon, travel, use it, take the times.

It's similar to why jedi give each other the advise to remove the crystal whenever they traveled. (Not only from planet to planet, but also from one zone to another on a planet.) When crossing a server boundary (a planet actually is several servers...) and loading into a different zone, the modifiers get lost and suddenly all weapons are used with base speed. Changing weapon supposedly fixes the issue, so in your setup you noticed the modifiers to be working. (I can't give you more than what i heard, other people did the testing...)

So, while you got the modifiers working in your small setup, who knows when he changes zone on a hunt over half a planet? When busting bases and being involved in PvP? Who then still remembers to change weapons to reset the modifiers? Won't be many people, i dare to assume... most people will fight "bugged" at many occasions.

i also think it had something to do with warm-up/cool-down times not just the actual attack speed... like those 2 times weren't changing how they should or something

Yes - the cooldown times work on the base speed of the weapon you are holding. Not on your modded speed as its supposed to work.

Conserquence is that although speed tapes and speed do work to reduce your modified speed they make hardly a jot of difference.

You spend most of the time in the game waiting for a cooldown timer. Mostly when we fight in SWG thats all most people are watching. We miss all of SOEs toon effects cos if you want to win you have stay glued to those timers and bars.

Doc speed buffs work, speed pups may work (not tested em), but the the rest is rubbarb.

A master will fire at almost the same rate as a novice with the same weapon but he will do more damage because of his level.

Sad really isnt it. The whole of the CU has been tuned to a BUG.

See, that's what I don't understand. The tests that I have done (I've done several) all show that my character hits faster the more speed mod I get. A lot of people say it doesn't work, but noone shows any tests to prove it (not that I have found anyway).

I thought that cooldown times for specials was supposed to be based on the special (for example, Advanced Critical Shot is always going to be 1.7 seconds). The modded speed would then be how fast you could fire between specials (or the same basic attack over and over). For example, if your modded speed was 1.18, you'd have a 1.18 second delay between Adv. Critical and Imp. Leg Shot.

One of the problems here is that, to my knowledge, no one knows how it's supposed to work...

There are 3 phases; Warmup, Execution, and Cooldown. Without knowing which one(s) of these different systems are supposed to affect, we can't really say it's bugged. Doc buffs definitely speed up the cooldown phase, modded speed and powerups seem to affect the Execution phase. I haven't done any testing on the Warmup phase.

TA, is this something your allowed to clear up? I assume not, because I really doubt I missed the dev post that explained how this works.

Hmmm I seem have a vague recollection of bringing this issue up at some point in the past... Ah yes, 6 freaking months before the CU launched

The Devs have avoided the issue....I will do some testing in Beta since the Frogs are out there

depends a bit on how many attacks you cycle.

1 attack, only primary cooldown for your attack, so you attack very slowly.

2 attacks in cycle, you will use the shorter secondary cooldown on the second attack, but note that using only 2 attacks in the cycle is usually NOT enough for the long primary cooldown of your first attack to go away before you get back to it.

3 attacks in cycle, now you will probably only use secondary cooldowns, and attack as fast as you can (within the rules)

This is a known exploit and is being investigated since it's possible to be abused by every profession.

Jedi are complaining that Docs and BH's are hitting and healing every second, BH are upset because they are running into Jedi hitting every second.... etc, etc.
