i ran this mission 20 times yesterday and ended up with this as my best of the 20 slugthrowers;

spd 2.2

damage 349-699

elemental 170

SAC 82

I'ts pretty good i think, well best i have been able to get, how should i slice this?

Yay... yes, that's a beauty one.

How to slice it... as far as i know, neither a critical nor a damage slice influence the elemental damage done. Thus i would say that speed is the way to go on it.

This, in my eyes, is even more true if you plan to use the weapon in PvP, where the "regular" damage is mitigated down by defence modifiers, anyways... thus elemental damage is more effective there and being able to hit for the elemental damage faster sure increases damage output.

As a warning, though, this is pure theory of mine, i didn't do any testing on this and also couldn't remember any similar threads.

Oddly, i got this on the first run... lol, i thought it was good but done the mission 19 more times to see if it was good

would be very interested in other opinions with maybe an explanation as to why i should slice in a particular way. Sorry if this stuff has been posted before, i'll search the clickies and stuff and if i get the answers i need i'll close the thread.

Thanks in advance

Sylow makes some good points, but I think I may have to reccomend a damage slice. My reasoning would be, that with the sac being a little high your action may be a problem. I think 2.2 speedis fairly decent as is, and should be more than enough if you have a doc speed buff. I think it's probably fast enough that you could run out your action even if you're using a sac pup (which I'd highly reccomend keeping on the gun). Also,I'm not a big fan of critical slices in general, I'd rather just have hard damage there.

That would be my reccomendation: Use a sac pup to keep action down, and slice for damage to increase overall hitting power. Any more damage you can add is always a good thing.

*last thought* I'm assuming that the sac is giving you trouble. I like to be able to alternate leg shot/crit shot, if you're a legshot/ranged shot kinda guy, it may not be a problem. So I would say that, if right now you are not draining your action, the speed slice would be good, otherwise go damage.

Now we need somebody to advertise the critical slice and we have the circle.

Anyways, as the PuP was mentioned... i personally lately got me a good nym's (though, a bit weaker than the one mentioned here) and plan to go with speed... and actually am so crazy to try not to use a SAC PuP but go for the elemental damage one.

Pushing elemental damage over 200 per shot but not caring for SAC will make me absolutely addicted to action food and still will force me to rely a lot on ranged shot to keep action costs under control but since many people are using primus layered armour and since elemental damage is not reduced by defences of the target, i hope that it'll perform not too bad.

As soon as testing is done, i'll let you know, but PvP testing usually takes a while with me.

Well, I got myself a 36-720, 175 acid damage Nyms (I believe that is the cap). It has 81 SAC and 1.12 spd modified. Therefore I sliced critical sliced mine and put a SAC pup on it. It works out nicely and I'd slice it the same way if I got another.

You know, you may just be onto something there. I think I may have to go run some tests and crunch some numbers too...I still have my doubts though

Status report, my carbine now looks like this, with PuP and all:

Attack speed (unmodded): 1.98

Damage: 305-649

Accid Damage: 219

SAC: 83

A single legshot on a Jedi (not sure which build, but PvP proven) results in 561 points of damage per shot, of those 142 accid damage. If that's good or not i leave up to you, the weapon is now ready for some serious field testing with me...

Yes, it's speed sliced and a SAC monster as that. Guess i got to get to some nice battle occasionally to see how well it does in real fighting.

Thanks for the info Sylow. so did you slice for speed with your carbine?

I'm really torn between damage and speed. Unsliced the nyms is definately my best Jedi damage dealer. tested out last night and of the5 jedi i hunted last night,2 i beat, using the nyms first off then switching to FW when close up, 1 ran after 5 mins when his force was i guess drained,1 was on Kash so dropped mission and one handed me my butt in around 3 minutes.

I'm kinda heading for a speed slice as the damage seems fine for hurting Jedi, but, i want to hurt them even more

I'm torn....

After doing some thinking and messing around, I still am gonna have to disagree with you Sylow. Now, there's no question that a strength of the Nym's is it's elemental. However, with everything that I've fought so far, more than half the damage, usually about (70-80%), is kinetic in every hit. I tried to find some elemental pups, but wasn't able to. Could you tell me what the bonus and negatives on the ones you have are?My reasoning is just that, if most of your damage is coming from kinetic and the dmg and elemental pups give similar % bonus, that the dmg pup will result in more damage. That's still something that I want to test to be sure on though.

As far as the slice though again. I still hold to that damage slice. It's kinda the safe bet since there's no question that it's going to raise your dps. With the speed slice, if you're hitting faster than you can handle your action, in any extended fight that speed is just wasted. I'm not saying that that speed won't help a lot, but there's just some situiations where it won't, which you can't really say about a damage slice.

What I like the idea of, is getting the damage slice, then keeping one of each kind of pup on you. If there's a situation where you need really quick short damage, use a speed pup. For general fighting go with the dmg or elemental pup (whichever you think is giving you more overall dps). If you get into some heavy extended fighting, go with the sac pup.

I dunno, that's my thoughts right now anyways, could change. I will try and look into how much these elemental pups could do for me though.
