Just finished mastering the Carbineer profession not too long ago. Haven't used an Elite yet, as it's AP1 doesn't really appeal to me, yet I see a lot of people prefer it as their "carbine of choice."

Just curious what the concensous is regarding the Elite Carbine.

The Elite carbine :

- one of the best looking carbine with visible scope and stock,
- short damage range which is nice againstdamage mitigation.

Those are the main reasons why I prefere the Elite carbine over the Laser one. The third reason is that my weaponsmith friend made me some nice guns with the imperial scope and stock.

I've read alot about the elite too in these forums, but some pretty damn experienced PvPers swear by the laser in PvP.

i have an elite for pvp and a laser for pve
youll understand if someone shoots you and you read your combat window and it says 200 dmg was soaked up by ranged damage mitigation

Hmm. I just assumed that the AP2 and higher damage, in spite of the range between min/max, of the Laser Carbine would make it the better weapon.

So more importantly its the small spread between minimum and maximum dmg that would make an Elite Carbine a better choice? I've been a TKA since release, so most of my combat experience barely extends beyond the use of Vibro Knucklers.

Exactly. Ranged Damage Mitigation 3 means that your weapon will do the minimum amount of damage possible. That is why folks like the elite carbine (or especially the T21) against ranged foes. Most tank templates only have melee damage mitigation, so the Laser Carbine would come in handy in these situations.

In PvE, the laser is generally your best bet though there will be times when the dxr6 (acid) or the ee3 (heat) will be superior.

In PvP, there are still some choices. The elite is generally superior becauseits high minimum damage largely offesets the effects ofranged damage mitigation. However, against an all-melee template that has no ranged damage mitigation, the laser carbine will be superior because of the AP2. In addition, some players like to carry a DXR6 as well because it is similar to the elite carbine yet is better at short range. There are many excellent posts on damage mitigation for you to get more info on this subject.

As you can see, there is noone best carbine. The successful Carbineer must use his wits to analyze each situation and use the proper tools for the job.

this is using averaged stats from 3 servers (all i could get for feedback), and shows how they stack up w/ and w/out mitigation, w/ dmg & speed slices. in bold are the best option in each category.

server stats will vary slightly...and believe it or not, w/ sub-par elite resources on Flurry, a laser carbine will be your better option regardless of mitigation, tho on nearly all other servers, elite & dxr6 will see a slight improvement in dps.

as nova stated...in PVP it's just your preference on who you're fighting against...if your server's full of melee-stacking fencers, you might not need to worry 'bout mitigation...if it's full of headshot-spamming riflemen (flurry), then you best understand mitigation.

again, as nova stated...for PVE, make judicious use of /examine to figure out your best option...but it will NEVER be the elite carbine since laser is also energy dmg. your 3 options should be Laser (for 80% of targets), DXR6 (or slugthrower if you prefer it for the 15% of acid useful targets), or EE3 (horrible weapon...but 5% of the time when there will be heat vulnerable w/ sizeable energy/acid resists.

oh...and i forgot to mention, even tho the e11's stats are quite impressive against mitigation, w/ a speed slice or krayt tissue'd version...the e11 can quickly approach the speed cap, and if you have BH or a handful of attachments, you'll cap it & thus, waste much of its dps...rendering it the least powerful of the lot.

My PvP weapons of choice is teh E11. I only have +67 carbine speed so even with a speed sliced E11 I am far off from the speed cap. Also I am poor, but can usually find 1 or 2 krayt tissues for E11's and enhanced E11's have a nice bleed on them.

For pve I mainly use a damaged sliced/krayted carbine with a speed pup.

I use a regular DXR6 carbine sliced for damage (my speed sliced krayt DXR6 carbine had a lower DPS than my damage sliced regular DXR6 carbine), because majority of mobs I fight are weak against acid.

If they are strong against acid, I got my damage sliced + Imperial Stocked E11.

'Course I only do PvE. If I want PvP, I'll play a game that doesn't have retarded PvP, like Call of Duty or pretty much any other game in existence.

i use elite carbines for pvp lasers for pve....in pvp you want a carbine with high minimum dmg (my 305-320 elite does well
