Thread: Is Master Carbineer without BH Carbines worthwhile?

Where do your interests lie? PvE or PvP primarily?
TK/Carbineer is a fun and balanced PvE profession. With some speed tapes, it'll be even cooler.
BH/Carbineer is a great offensive PvP profession, but it lacks in the ways of defenses and versatility. It's also good for PvE, but if you get to the high-level stuff, it becomes a bit obsolete.
TK/Carbineer with speed tapes (enough to speedcap) is even better for PvP, but it may be costly. It's all about the speed, as Ben'jai noted.
As a Master Carbineer, you'll only be firing a shot every second if you have a 1.0 speed Carbine. Considering a basic stocked Laser is about 3.7 speed.. that means there's almost a 4 second delay (as a Master TK who speedcaps easily, this will be painful for you
) between every shot unless you get krayt weapons made, get speed slices, or again, get Carbine Speed tapes.
I can't stress this enough, so I'll say it again, hehe.
For Master Carbineers alone, speed is your salvation.

Greetings,
I need some advice and assistance, please.
I'm a TKM and have been working on carbines, mostly to have mix of Range/Melee that is some different or unusual, but I'm not sure that things are working out. I'm getting a bit frustrated. It seems that all of the effective Carbineers have the BH Carbine tree also. Without giving up part of TK, there aren't enough skill points to get the BH carbines.
Is it worth continuing to develop my carbine skills (currently 3324) without getting the BH tree? I like carbines inspite of the frustration, but i not sure it will be worth it. Should I continue to stick it out to get Master Carbineer or re-think what I want to do?
Thanks for your help!!

Well, this is how I did it. I'm sure it's not "the plan of all plans", but it works for me.
Did the BH carbine chain first. Got the speed up there and the accuracy. Then on to Carbineer, 0400. Just to get that accruacy up there even more. Then 4400 carbineer. Now I got the first chain for speed. Next, carbineer 4440. Mostly just because the third chain is the obvious next step. BTW, after I got 4400, I just went to maxing my carbine XP so I could knock out the first 3 blocks of the third chain in one swoop. And then last was the last chain followed my MCarbineer. Mostly just because combat XP comes quite a bit slower. But, I did the forth chain of the carbineer stuff as I got the combat XP to do it with.....usually. Sometimes I was able to get 2 blocks at a time.
I came up with the plan by doing two characters at once so both of them are MCarbineers/BHCarbines. What I did with the rest of the skill points is my little secret but that secret doesn't really matter. Everybody has thier opinion of what to do with the rest of them and really as long as they understand thier function in a group or solo, they're all good plans. A few accruacy attachments never hurt either.

With my main I'm redoing Doctor/Carbineer, I finally got +25 in Speed from tapes, and have the +12 FS speed so I'll be capped without BH Carbine line. My other characters are all TKA based though.
In truth, you get the BH Carbine Line for more speed and accuracy, but if you can speed cap without BH Carbine line, and use Citros Snow Cake for +40 accuracy...you'll be doing pretty good.
Especially when armor is balanced.
FS Melee or FS Ranged Speed? Melee works now but hopefully Ranged will in the future....

I wanted to emphasize this point, actually.
A very quick (ok maybe not that quick) and easy way to get the extra speed, as OnlyMaestro stated, is to go up the Melee Speed tree. It takes only 4 SP to get +12, which makes a huge difference for those who lack in speed SEAs. It's bugged, sure, and let's hope Ranged Speed gets fixed.. but in the meantime, if you've got several hours to spare.. grinding for that FS branch is well worth it.
Myself, I'm only going up the 2 first ones (+6), because I have over +45 Carbine speed in various clothing and armor attachments, so that regardless of what combination I wear (even plain clothing), I've always got +25 on me.

FS Ranged Speed is supposed to be borked, but what I noticed is the Melee Speed line I have (which I used a free unlock on) is currently working somehow for RANGED weapons as well as Melee. Methinks they buggered the math somewhere somehow. From what I can tell from my rifleman friends who tested it: they're at speedcap still when no tapes are equipped, no PUP used, and they only have the FS Melee Speed line.
The problem I see is can you give up FS skills? If not then when they fix ranged speed, assuming you are not melee, or going Jedi you have 4 points you will not get back for something you cannot use.
So yes, you can grab FS melee speed, and it may help you now, but be prepared to loose that when they fix ranged speed.
Me I am taking those 3 boxes of BH for now and wait for all of that FS stuff to staighten itself out.
Besides who knows what the combat changes, when they come, will do overall to speed.
So much is unknown, clouded the future is...

It's bound to be fixed at one point or another. I hope it isn't, considering I just finished grinding to the 2nd box yesterday (I hate grinding, hehe) but either way, I think getting +6 carbine speed speed for 2 SP is an awesome benefit.
It all depends on SEAs though. Going up the BH carbine line is faster, cheaper, and probably funner.
