I've been using a DH-17 and just bought an elite carbine, and even though the elite's stats all look higher, it's doing less damage in combat. Both do energy damage, so it's not a case of different resistances--what am I missing? Besides the sevoorts, that is.

Are their speeds the same? Check the DPS formula in the FAQ to figure out which actually does more damage, the elite should win with light ap with an energy resistant mob. Check the DPS formula before you assume which does more damage, 1000 damage every 1 second is better than 1500 every 2 seconds you see?

You may not be certified to use the Elite (the cert comes at Novice Carbineer)

Certifications! I totally forgot about certifications. Pardon me while I feel really stupid.
Damn, that 9k was all I had in the world, too. Anyone on Chimaera want to buy a slightly used elite carbine?

Oh, I'll get there eventually.
I love carbines, now matter how flawed the game implementation is. But I only play a few hours a week, so it's gonna take me a looooong time to get there.
Even so, I was being facetious about selling it. Eh, who needs a speeder bike anyway.

When I first started playing this game I bought so many weapons I couldnt use before I figuredout the certification system. Fortunately my friends had lots of money to loan me to buy new weapons.

Lol, same. I bought a heavy acid rifle, T21, and long vibro axe off the bazaar because they had high damage

Definitely drop the Elite in a bank and save it for when you hit Novice. Until then, the recommendable carbines per Marksman skill are as follows: (just my $.02)
Carbines I: DH17 snubby
Carbines II: Enhanced E11
Carbines III: EE3 (Head for Dantooine with good Ubeseand start on Mokk missions in a solo group.)
Carbines IV: DXR-6 (About on par with an Elite, just does Acid damage.)

i've always been a big fan of the laser carbine. the wide damage range isnt so awesome, but hte medium AP is.
and, if you can afford to buy a few of them, youre almost guaranteed a good damage slice.

Of course the Damage Slice is for the SPEED CAPPED Carbineer only.....otherwise DPS is higher with a Speed Slice ![]()

Well, for my part, I'm not into min-maxing to that degree. I bought the Elite in part because I like how it looks.
I am going to keep it. (Thanks for the offer though, Rhianna. If you want the vendor's coordinates, I can pull them the next time I'm ingame. He had plenty in stock.) We'll see how long it takes me to get to novice carbineer. Thanks for all the advice.
