I think I agree with the topic of your post... what's the point?

They both suck hard arse, especially in PvP.

I don't PvP, I only run missions. And I only do maybe one to two missions every other week. The DH17 regular / short are perfect for this, as it got the highest "dps" calculation out of all the carbines I was looking at (everythingpost-slice).

Of course, if I hadn't gotten speed slices on every elite carbine I got sliced, it probably would have been a little different.

The difference between the DH17 and the snubnose DH17 is the ideal range. The DH17 ideal range is 35m (or close to that number), and the snubnose DH17 ideal range is 22m (again, I am unsure of the exact number).

Yaa i don't quite understand the hype on the dh17's. I've tried them but found that my laser and elitecarbine is much better. Maybe i missed something.

I find it shocking people still use the DH17 in PvP. I did a test with a friend of mine. I challenged him to kill me in under 5 minutes with a DH17. I buffed myself and put on my composite. He couldn't move my HAM bars.

Not even including damage mitigation, do you have any idea what composite with 50% (a low number) energy protection does to a DH17?

You high number of 500 is reduced by 50% and then 50% again. And that is AFTER the 75% reduction.

500 * 0.25 * 0.50 * 0.50 = 32 damage

And this is NOT including range damage mitigation which would significantly lower the 500.

Yes, the DH17 has about 30 less minimum damage, and only4 more maximum damage. Not only is that worse just plain stat wise, it rips it apart with mitigation.

And like Nova said, you've got a 50% reduction for AP and then a 50% reduction for effectivness. If you're unbuffed and have to PvP, use an un-stocked Elite (or one with the new no-ham stock) and take a hit of BoH.

I don't bother with PvP, and I find that the DH17 is a very good PvE gun.

If I could get the rest of the materials, I would love to make myself a DRX6... the one I have I bought a few months back, and I'm sure I could make better if I had materials.

There are so many mobs with acid weakness.

I disagree that it is even a good PvE weapon. When you consider that most creatures in the game have considerable energy resistance, the damage being done by this weapon takes a considerable hit. Granted it might have lower HAM, but if you use an AP1 or AP2 you will be doing considerably more damage. In the end, if the AP1 or 2 weapons do more damage per shot, you are actually using the HAM cost more effectively.

The only thing I use my dh17 for it breaking down lairs. Since lairs have no armor, they are the superior lair buster.

But don't be fooled by the low HAM costs, when you have to fire it twice as much to do the same damage as an AP1/2 weapon, you have spent the same HAM and take longer to take out the target.

the short carbine has an ideal that is much SHORTer range than the regular. other than that it's basically the same.

So use the short for up close killing and the normal for shooting at longer ranges.

DH17 Short just looks tons better than the regular Dh17. As for either gun, they are a useful weapon when getting mob spawned. For example, I will be out harvesting faction at some enemy base, and a group will respawn while Im still finishing another group (or two). Time for the DH17 Short because the low HAM costs and decent damage make a huge difference when getting hit by 14 NPC's at the same time.

Other than that, they're fairly useless.

all i use them for is taking out bases to save my powered up pvm weapons. Its easy to get a cheep one with a stock and scope made up for all out damage using default attack. It gives my mind time to fill before moving on to the next mission. And with default attack against no armor it dosent kill to much slower than a nice DXR6 or Elite. Its also prety fast even with a stock.

DH17 Carbine:
AS 2.5 , 76 - 187 , -20 PB @ 0, +18 ideal @ 35 , -60 max @ 64. Wound 15.7%
HAM 21 - 30 - 13

DH17 Short Carbine:
AS 2.5 , 76 - 187 , -25 PB @ 0, +2 ideal @ 25, -80 max @ 64. Wound 15.1%
HAM 25 - 28 - 14

both made using the same components. (same barrels + same power handlers, no scope or stock)

So, basically, the *only* reason I could see using a short carbine would be the fact that it doesn't look like a CDEF carbine... which is why I use one, in fact. (Stats on my personal short carbine: AS 2.7 , 144 - 288 , 29.1% wound, -25 +38 -80 range, 65 67 53 HAM (ham doesn't bother me. the rare times I do hunt I'm buffed)
