Thread: Master Bounty Hunter should add Carbineer or Pistoleer or Both?

I'm in a dilemma. I am a Master Bounty Hunter with Pistoleer 4 0 0 4 but I like the damage output of my carbine over that of my pistols. (I'd say that my carbine does twice the damage of my pistol once specials are factored in.) I do however love using my pistols with eyeshot at the speed cap. Problem is pistol damage is just not that good.

I typically enter combat with my carbine armed so that I can lay a KD/dizzy (Bounty Hunter carbine specials), then switch to my pistol for a fire DoT (Torso shot). Due to the weapon switch delay, I usually stay with the pistol after that. I sure would like to stick with a single weapon and not have to worry about switching back and fourth from pistol to carbine.

I read on the Bounty Hunter forum a debate on which is better.... Master Bounty Hunter/Master Pistoleer or Master Bounty Hunter /Master Carbineer. I also don't know how important it is to master either. There might even be a combination of Master Bounty Hunter / some pistols + some carbines. It looks like it comes down to this.....Pistoleer has better defense than Carbineer, but Carbineer has higher damage output than Pistoleer especially when you factor in medium armor piercing of the laser carbine vs. light AP of all pistols (well...AP 0 on some).

So now you can see my dilemma. My question is with a carbine speed of +80 and accuracy of +120 (Bounty Hunter with no Carbineer) how much help would it be to add Carbineer stats.... either some or Master? Are there Carbineer specials that are better than the Bounty Hunter Carbine specials? At the same time I have pistol speed of +80 and accuracy of +120 before I add Pistoleer skills. Pistoleer adds to Bounty Hunter some melee defense, some state defense, a few specials that I don’t use, and the Geo pistol certification, which is great for PvP, but useless against Jedi. (Damage type makes no difference against armor less Jedi.) I’m speed capped with pistols even without Pistoleer skills.

I'm hoping there's some players out there with both Bounty Hunter /Carbineer and Bounty Hunter /Pistoleer experience that can help with this.

Thanks in advance.

I am not a BH, so can't give too much direct info, but there are a few great folks in here to help I am sure.

I would first ask if you really need MBH? Would you consider 3440 to get some skill points in both Carbineer and Pistoleer?

You could got 3440 BH - 3434 Carbineer - 0044 Pistoleer.

If you can get both, I'd say as a Master Bounty Hunter you really only need to go 0040 Carbineer and 0040 Pistoleer to supplement state defenses. Your Bounty Hunter Carbine specials would be well complemented by BurstShot1 and BurstShot2 as well as FullAutoSingle2. Bounty Hunter Pistols are well complemented by StoppingShot and FanShot.

If you keep MBH, then you can drop to 0040 Pistoleer and leave 3434 Carbineer alone......and of course I have to recommend MORE Carbineer

Yes I really need MBH. I'm one of those silly guys that like MBH...plus I think BH will be fixed in the combat rebalance. Thanks for your input though.

TA, you're gonna get this guy killed.

Pistoleer 0044, Carbineer 3034. Its not much, but give him a little Melee defense.

Well he IS a BH....muhahahaha

But isn't Terrain Negotiation and BurstRun the equivalent of Melee Defense for the BH?

And he is gonna get killed anyways without 4440 Fencer IMHO.

In a perfect world, terrain negotiation and burstrun could keep you alive, considering that the average melee template has no Scout, but given how lenient latency is and the closeness of city/base combat, you can't count on staying at range.

So at that point, its a matter of staying on your feet and keeping your opponent off of his.

Well aren't you trying to avoid getting killed? I mean if getting killed all the time is what you want, we can fix you up right

I agree. You could do a mix and match, but in my opinion a Master Bounty Hunter just can not get any reasonable amount of defenses, so you should focus on offense instead. Carbineer specials are all working, which gives you alot of options and you deal higher damage with carbines. And personally, I don't like dabbling.
