Now I am just looking for a resonable explination of why we are not allowed to 2 or more characters on the same server unless we unlock a 2nd slot by becoming a jedi. In my opinion there is no purpose behind this other than to get people to pay $30 a month to have 2 characters on the samer server. In another SOE game, EQ2, you can have up to 6 characters (max you can have all together) on the samer server. I believe this allows players to try out different professions without giving up what they have already worked so hard towards. SWG does have the option of surrendering a skill, but this only goes so far. If you surrender to give another profession a try, find out you don't like it as much as you thought, you would have to earn ALL the experience you gained before all over again to go back to your old profession. Now, why can't we have 2 or more characters on the same server? We couldn't log into our account in 2 places at the same time so therefore we could not use both at the same time and have a 1 person playing multiple characters group group. People would be able to try out different professions without having to gimp theircharacter that they have already had to work so hard at. You would be able to try out crafting if you got bored of combat and viceversa. What I'm trying to get at really is why can't I or anyone else, have an alton the same server as our main to play with ourfriends we have met over the months, withoutgoing through the minimum 18 week jedi grind to get it?! I canfind no explination for this other than SWG dev's want more money by forcing me to buy a second account or waste months grinding jedi, either way they get their moola right?I'd liketo hear any responce agree/disagree that people would have on this issue.

The reason for this is because, unlike EQ2. SWG has a 100% player driven economy. Meaning, If I have char A) a master commando who needs weapons armor, ect..then i make character B) weaponsmith and character C) armorsmith...the economy goes to hell because no one is buying from eachother...they are crafting thier own gear. I think 1 char per server is great. If you want to test out the other professions then make chars on other servers.

If your main account is a commando, what stops you from buying a second account, and making that toon an armorsmith/weaponsmith?
Your argument is completely invalid. There is absolutely no reason why we can't have an alt on the same servers. And if you want to talk about database space, the same space your alt would take up is the same space another account would take up. This is purely greed driven, to get people to buy more accounts.

If you knew the answer, why are you asking the question?

As has been shown here, Jedi and their second slot actually don't negativly affect the economy. Therefore, yes, everyone really ought to get a second slot... maybe even three or four.

Jedi and their second accounts aren't exactly a great example of why everyone should get a free second account. Jedis aren't exactly regular players.

The whole statement from me was at least in part sarcastic. So, an example of why people should? That's debatable. Would it matter for our economy? If we take your word for it, not enough to worry about if at all.
I'm not sure what you mean by regular but, in case you havn't logged in recently, Jedi are certainly a normal, everyday phenomenon.

The post you referenced is a thread about how jedi are not self-sufficient and contribute to the economy. Jedi's second accounts also contribute to the economy, but act more like a regular contributer to the economy rather than a mere consumer like a Jedi is. Or rather that second account could contribute. Regular contributors to the economy could double up on their contribution without becoming consumers like Jedis are. That's why I said it wasn't a good analogy.

I know the post I linked to.

People could use their Jedi to do whatever they want after opening the alt. The only real difference between a Jedi and a non-Jedi second slot at that point would be that they'd have 24 (or however many it is) less usable skillpoints. So, have this non-Jedi second slot have that many less skillpoints.

the first person to respond gave the exact reason. no amount of complaining about it will change it because it would ruin the player driven economy

Plus, it makes a nice reaward for people to earn, as opposed to just having it handed to them.
I'm not opposed to giving a 2nd slot to people willing to work for Jedi, nor would I be opposed to giving a 2nd slot to a 2year veteran. Both have done something to earn something that is a nice benefit in the game.
