Thread: I Love the Vendor Search Bazaar feature...BUT
- Add box for searching on product description
- Add Quality Search tools (e.g. Conductivity > 500)
- Allow remote purchasing, I can buy it from the bazaar but I have to travel to pick it up. Right now the bazaar allows this for remote bazaars.
Ok so those are some of the things I think would help, any feedback?
- You could be a declared Rebel, and the vendor turns out to have several Imperial bases set up in the area (and vice versa). Ok, you can go "On Leave", but that's extra hassle keeping you from something you've already paid credits for.
- You might be banned from the store. This might be from previous problems you've had with the merchant, or you may be dealing with the type of immature personality who gets the "item has been sold" email, then bans you from the store to prevent pickup. Hey, he/she has their money, why should they care whether you're actually able to get the item.
- An "enter, hit the vendor, switch to Available Items, pickup, leave" mentality reduces the chance of "impulse buys" that helps out well-stocked merchants.
- There were potential out-of-sync problems if multiple people in different locations tried to buy an item at the same time. The game world lives on multiple machines, and they're not always locked in step. Player A on Dant may be trying to buy Item B on Naboo at the same time that Player C on Lok is trying to buy the same thing. That's probably three different machines that may or may not be working from the same source data.
#1 and #2 could possible have been dealt with by using some sort of "escrow" system, where the seller or the buyer could cancel the transaction, reverting the item back to the vendor and the credits back to the buyer. #3 was a big worry from the dedicated crafters/merchants (especially the ones who get a kick out of people seeing their well-decorated shops). #4 would've required adding more checks to make sure that the item you pay for is actually available, and that no one else could pay credits for the same item. Extra network traffic is something that MMOs try to minimize as much as possible.
Although put me in the group that does like the first two suggestions. ![]()

Plus, the third idea would hurt buisness. If people have to actually go to the shop, then they are more likely to see something else on that vendor that they want to buy on impulse. If they are allowed to buy it remotely, then they will never even see what else is on that vendor.
Not to mention that some of us spend a lot of time decorating our shops and dressing up our vendors.
What would be the point, ifno one ever sees them?
The first two ideas are good though.

As for the waypoints... Right now it is putting a WP in your datapad and naming it "Waypoint to Vendor". I am not certain about a more friendly way to fix this but it isn't exactly convienent either. When I was looking for resources I had to go in and rename the waypoint just so that I knew what I was going to that vendor for since I had about 10 resources to buy from different vendors on different planets.
Yup this annoys me too. I would preferif ithad the name of the searched item on the waypoint, or failing that, the vendor name. That wouldn't be too hard to impliment would it?
And I don't know about you guys, but I type "Copper", "Alu" (because youse Americans can't spell Aluminium
) into the Filter Crafted Items list and that's what comes up. Granted it probably wouldn't show up specific resources (see the dolovite example), but then again I haven't tried it so if someone could let me know that'd be great.
But I'min favourfor the breaking down of inorganic minerals into categories. C

TOTALLY off topic, but we Americans DO know how to spell Aluminium - We even spelled it that way for years - Did you know it was a Brit who coined the name Aluminum in the first place? He was persuaded to use the -ium ending to match several other of his newly found elements. Americans used -ium through the 19th century till an American inventor developed a new production process for making Aluminium.. HE decided to use the -um ending in his handbills touting the process.. And the name stuck over here....
Of course, in 1993, the Scientific community allowed that both -um and -ium were interchangable, although the board ITSELF prefers -ium...
Oh brother, I need a life... ![]()

The "Filter text" should work on anything in the item's name. Since Dolovite Iron shows up as "Dolovite Iron", putting "Dolovite Iron" the filter box should bring up only Dolovite.
And with a fix in pub 21 today, resource names and stack sizes will once again be showing up in the name column on vendors (although it will probably require merchants to remove / restock the resources from their vendors). So if you've discovered "Uberleetness", a type of Dolovite Iron with some good stats, you should (theoretically) be able to put "Uberleetness" in the filter box to find that particular resource listed as "Dolovite Iron Uberleetness (100000)".
I tried putting text in there but it didn't work, but I might have been trying like "Ryll Amorphous" or something, so maybe I should go try just "Amorphous"... Thanks for the suggestion.
