I think what is meant is that most of the live events thus far have been combat related. IE, black sun invade Theed.

During that, those black sun were SURE to kill a couple afk spam bots, so now they can spam to the cloner

I run Ubuntu Linux and play SWG with Cedega. Give the live CD a try, you'll like it

Did -you- think that he meant by unleashing an asssault of black sun NPC's on Coronet might wipe out those afk spammers?

nah there is alot of live events now. Spammers and just :

1)someone with no life

2)Wants to advertise something

3)Ch marco AAAAAA etc

4)Some annoying person

Ways to get rid of them:

1)place on ignore list

2)get a large group to report him

3)Never help him when hes active

People who advertise with droids, i respect. People who shouts that they have specific items for sale, i respect. People whos AFK of just in general shouting with 10 sec intervals, i use /addignore [name]

Dantooine mining outpost is soo a pain in the azz.. by all means, shout that you are doing a solo group, but why the hell do you have to do it every 5 seconds..

Yea, spammers are part of this world too, but they are also the most lonely.. thats why ignore function was made, so the rest of us can play in a mature and fun way.. :-)

Following the path chosen for me..

i dont mind the solo group leaders and the ones looking for groups, the docs buffing, and even the ones running around trying to sell some junk they just looted. atleast i KNOW they are sitting PLAYING the game. the morons that log in some alt at server reset, fire up the 10 line every 20 second spewage then put the afk sign up and let it run all day are the ones i LOATH.

ive never bought a thing from an afk spammer and dont plan on it, along the way ive also managed to make well over 100 mil the last few months selling nothing but powerups for 1k and resources at 2cpu. the BEST advertisement ive found is a very satisfied customer telling their friends where the best deals are. think they called it word of mouth........

I guess I could be called a "spammer," lets review the REAL reasons why I do it:

1) I work 9-10 hour days, then go to school for 4 hours afterwards.

2) I think the dynamic economy of the game is one of its best features, and I enjoy running my business and the interaction with a lot of people on the server due to having in my, and apparently other's, opinions a good product at a good price.

3) I can't run a business without customers, and because of the 14 hour investment I have to the "real world," I don't have the option to spend a lot of time on these forums or other forms of advertising, but I wish to remain competitive.

So "spamming" seems to be the ideal medium for me to advertise. I"m not malignant about it, I have 5 different messages, one of which posts every 30 seconds. I do not turn off my auto-AFK signal, so if you wish to block me out, by all means turn on your "ignore messages from AFK players." And what's different about a droid? The droid costs me money in batteries, will die in a matter of hours (I'm gone 14 hours out of the day, remember?)

This is the most financially advantagous way to advertise in this game, and my business flourished because of it. There should be no way to turn off Auto-AFK..then any spammer would be able to be blocked out by ignoring AFK players. What about the times that my doc is barking, and you add him to ignore, then you get slain between the Village and the Science Outpost and ask for a rez? Then I'm ignored, so you think i'm ignoring you since you can't hear me, you don't hear me saying add me to your consent list, and your items decay. Your loss, I guess.

Long story short: The answer to the spammer problem is to make Auto-AFK mandatory after half an hour at most. Turn on your block msg's from AFK players and congratulations, you have no messages...but you might also miss an advert for that rare item you covet or a better price on the weapons you use. Again...your loss.

I understand how people may be annoyed by spamming, however--as in the real world--if you want to grow your business, your guild, your city, you need to advertise. Running a macro, or announcing at a very busy starport or gathering place in order to tell people about it is still one of those most effective ways.

Then create the ability to actually make signs to be dropped in cities, instead of just allowing us to sell them (bazaar location for signs).

My /addignore list is 5x as long as my friend list because it takes me an extra 1-2 minutes to actually log back in at a starport because spammers are wasting my RAM (and don't say "buy more RAM" cuz that's not always an answer). The part that ticks me off is that I haven't found a way to ignore SPAM droids. If they fix that, you RAM-suckers can caterwaul all day long for all I care.

I recognize that and agree with you. Being able to put down signs to promote a vendor etc., is a great idea. I don't know how possible it would be--making it happen--but that would be a good feature. Unfortunately, like the salespeople in the real world, they all want to sell their features and products. They won't all go away. They also have every a right to do so until another--even better way to promote--comes a long.

Perhaps another idea is to have some kind of limitation on being able to be in public areas to promote and for how long. Maybe a fee, limit on how long a message can be active and requiring the player not to be AFK. I don't know for sure. I am just thinking.
