while i think your idea is great, I'm just wondering what would happen to merchants under a system like this? There would be little/no reason to advertise on the map, because the bazaar lists everything for you. All you'd need is the storage on your vendors and no other skills would be needed.

A change such as this would never happen unless merchant was redesigned/reduced to a 0 SP profession (like politician now ). Personally i'd like to see it as a 0 skillpoint profession because its so necessary for any kind of crafter.

It's an interesting idea, but I'm afraid this ideawould increase undercutting especially in professions that are already extremely undercut. I think people would feel pressured to lower their prices just to get sales when price usually tied to resource cost. Some of the crafters would lose business due to it.

Spammers: Who cares? Ever MMORPG where people congregate will always have spammers so just accept it as part of the genre instead of fighting it.

Galaxy Bazzaar: Long overdue

Merchants being affected?? Who uses the planetary map list to locate merchants?I certainly don't. All it is is a long list of vendors that usually have crap for sale. Last time i tried itI went to a vendor that was called "Droids of all kinds" ... there were 2 droids for sale. Wasted trip.

They say the bazzarr can't expanded because it would affect merchants. Huh? Then why do we have a trade forum? It's just a human created expanded bazaar that does the exact same thing.

Currenly the bazzaar is hurting merchants, because there is so much loot nowadays I'm just dumping schematics/paintingsleft and right on there, undercutting any merchants who try to sell them for 200+k

This is a good idea as far as it goes... BUT...

I think that it should be tied into a Merchant skill. Perhaps Advertising 4 (or even Master Merchant)... and only registered vendors should be able to have their contents listed on the bazaar. This would prevent someone from picking up enough business (from the Artisan line) to drop a vendor and suddenly be able to list the contents of that vendor on the bazaar and would give Merchants a bonus to the skill points that they have invested.

thats a good point lol When i was trying to find some components for my ship i looked through the 50+ vendors outside coronet to find the best crafted blasters i could.. lets just say 90% of the vendors had one or two starter ships, of the 10% left about 5% had one item on that said e-mail orders only (what the hell is with that anyway.. i go all the way to your store and you have nothing to sell :/) and the few vendors i did find with something on were over-priced. Finally found one vendor after 2 hours of looking that had stuff at a reasonable price, well stocked and had a well set out store. I play the game to have fun, whats fun about looking for ship parts for 2 hours?

This is a good idea, but as some people pointed out, there would need to be balance for the merchant profession, or a major overhaul of it. I like the idea of skilled merchants being the only ones able to list their items on the bazzar.

Its so simple its just silly.

Its meant to be a galaxy of all sorts of technology where we can buy from a small terminal in a bank right? These days in the real world you can shop online or reserve something at a shop to collect later.

So (and this isn't my idea I stole it from Eve) lets just have the bazaar terminals as a way to see everything for sale either on the whole server or more likely the whole planet. Then you can see all the prices and how far you'd have to travel and you can decide whether to trade cost for quickness if somethings dear but closer.

Let you pay at the bazaar and then its a quick trip to the vendor to pickup the item. Working much the same way as if you use the planet or galaxy wide option on the bazaar only this lists stuff on everyones vendors. Some of the code needed for it is already there including the email you get with a waypoint when you buy something.

No longer would people have to spam at starports as all their items can be readily seen on one handy terminal. No longer will people have to trek round planets and vendors trying to find the item they need in stock. And it promotes competition as instantly people can compare prices.

Maybe go a step further and have an orders page where people can ask for things and crafters can choose to "commission" the item and accept the order so other folks dont get double orders.

Anyway just my thought.

I think it's great. You're not eliminating their shop, you're just making it easier on the customer.

It's really annoying to go around to 7 or 8 different chef shops just to find a crate of ahrisa.

I think that listing everything that all vendors have with the current set up of the bazaar would be an absolute mess where you would probably spend more time searching through all the junk listings than you would if you simply went out to find a vendor. Searching through all the travel tickets priced at 99999999999 would be more annoying than all the bogus auctions are right now

Oh, forgot to add: I don't think this is a bad idea at all, just that I don't think it would work with the way things are at the moment.

Some pretty good points folks have made, a few that occured to me after I posted as well. I can certainly see its something that would need more thought especially when it comes to stuff like the 999999999 credits sales and how merchant skills would apply differently etc.

Certainly there'd need to be more refineable search criteria so you didnt have to sift through tons of stuff. Perhaps the filters would need to be more specific so you can sort things in such a way as to find what your looking for and by price. (Then all the 99999999 things would be at the bottom of the list). But it does seem like it would need a lot more work and thought than I originally conceived.

Still an idea is only good til you put it to the test.

I think that tying it to the merchants skill level might work well, but only for listing a certain number of items; ie novice canlist 10 while master canlist 50. This would allow a merchant to showcase items, run specials etc as well as draw customers to their main store from the listings since purchased items would have to be picked up.I know for a lot of vendors the items for sale are duplicates, 68 power hammers each priced at 12k on the same vendor, no reason to have this listed 68 times, once would be enough.

You also have to understand that not many would understand how your concept would work... Sometimes, advertising in starports is the only way to notify the public you have specific items on sale... Something as simple as an icon NEXT to your name would be cool... Instead of the spatial lag creating client lag... Someone with an icon next to their names depicting they are selling something would be great... And you can browse a FOR SELL inventory on the person while they are AFK... Completely removed the /sayor chat commands in Macros.
