I was thinking about these veteran rewards yesterday and came to an interesting conclusion. I think its very possible that these had 2 purposes when implemented by the devs. The first being the obvious one of rewarding longtime players with a means to preserve cherished gear. The second purpose i believe is that they are being used indirectly as a way of removing the vast majority of high end weaponry from the servers. But they protect a item, so how are they removing them you may ask?... simple. Here's how it works, a player gets their AD kit and drops it on their finest gear as planned. Well now that the player realizes they can do this repeatedly they are now FAR more likely to invest in a Uber piece of equipment so they will begin shopping for even better gear, at which point they will destroy the previous gear and re-apply the ad kit to the new gear. This means that most uber weapons that are aquired will only have a single owner before they are destroyed, where as previously they could of been sold countless times to different individuals. This is whats happening right now and I think its a very clever plan on the devs behalf. Im willing to wager that more then 50% of the high end gear has already been destroyed in the endless AD kit climb since they have been introduced into the game.
Very interesting stuff to ponder.

Actually this is something that I've chatted with among guild members is the outside possible uses for the Anti-Decay kits. We all know that these items were used for many legendary and high end weapons; however, we also know that when the CU/R/B comes around that all items will have to be changed to fall within specs for their class. There are a few different scenarios in which these kits were let into the game with the most popular being a short term reward to let players use and abuse their legendary equipment until the CU goes live.
One popular belief and would be by far the best use of the kits is during the eve of the CU/R/B implementation a notice would be sent out to all users in regards to anti-decay kits. The message would be short yet descriptive informing all players that because balance is the highest priority all weapons will be adjust to fit within their respective damage/resist range. Legendary items without the decay kits will be automatically disabled either by turning the condition 0/X, making them a special certification level to which no player has, or just flat out removing the item. Articles with the anti-decay kit installed on them will be flagged for adjustment and allowed a slightly higher damage/speed/resist output than a normal item in their respective class. All DoTs will be considerably scaled back and/or completely removed from the weapons to fit in with the system. Thus, if a player wants to protect something other than the current item in their inventory they'll need to destroy the current item that the kit is installed on to preserve their beloved item. Most importantly out of this though would be that the majority of over powered weapons would be adjusted to fit within the CU/R/B.
A popular and hopeful misconception is that anything with the anti-decay kit on them will survive past the update for the CU/R/B and retain all the features of the weapon in its current state. This would mean the best weapons post CU/R/B will be wielded by those who were fortunate enough to have them pre-publish and would retain the power and imbalance these weapons carry with them. Under this plan the CU/R/B will be an utter failure for there is no balance if a T21's damage range is considered 175 - 450 and a handful of players are allowed to keep their 2300+ damage T21's for use without decay. In turn this would cause much fuss on the forums along with completely kill most if not all PvP-Enabled action as nobody will be willing to fight when they know there is no possible way to win, ever.
Another possible use, albeit an extreme, is that on the eve of the CU/R/B the developers send out a message telling everybody that if they'd like to keep their anti-decay kit and use it for the duration of the game they must recycle (destroy) the current item. Those weapons which are not destroyed and have an anti-decay kit on them will be destroyed during the update along with the anti-decay kit. This example would be a far reaching one which would upset many players and more than likely not be something that SOE/LA would do.
If you're looking for a sinister and devious use for why these anti-decay kits are around and what will happen to the items post-CU/R/B there is something that could be done behind the scenes to which players are unaware of. Anti-decay kits protect the item they're placed on from taking decay. Most notably these kits are and will be used on weapons more than anything since damage output is more desired than damage resists and skill enhancements. It would be possible that the anti-decay kits retain a locked condition value but actually keep the information about the conditions on a separate database. Once the CU/R/B goes live the developers lift the anti-decay kits from the weapon and run the secret database value thus breaking almost all items that were decay free for the past month(s). Statements from SOE/LA could range from "we didn't realize that initial problems we'd run into implementing the CU/R/B on live servers and player's anti-decayed weapons" to just total silence.
Aside from all of this and the possible uses there is one thing to consider and once again could be debated as hate or love to a single profession. Once all is said and done about the CU/R/B and anti-decay kits, if any thing happens aside from them allowing the kits to extend past the publish and/or adjust weapons to fall in line with their respective classes, only one profession has little to worry about. It's safe to assume that any and all current Jedi have placed an anti-decay kit on their best saber. What was once their most valued treasure and usually sat aside for PvP only, Jedi are now given free reign to use their best pearls and crystals in a saber without fear of decay.
On one side of the picture this means that there will be less of a demand on pearls and crystals since decay is no longer an issue. This also means that once a Jedi has a set of 4 pearls that are 50/50 -9 they're now basically set as this will give them the maximum damage and lowest force costs (unless flawless start tuning past -10 with damage of 50+). Market value for these items will fall much more than they have in the past since the krayt spawn adjustment which might or might not have an effect on those who farm krayts for a living. Another side effect of anti-decay kits and sabers is that eventually when most Jedi complete their set of 4 pearls (50/50 -9) and using the best of all resources found on each server this will balance out each Jedi saber to be near exactly the same damage which would balance this profession out.
On the flip side keeping anti-decay on lightsabers could generate other problems as well. One of the more notable problems would be those that involved "corked" lightsabers that we've heard about and some have been lucky enough to be ripped a new one by them. Many of these multiple stuffed lightsabers were removed or destroyed through the patches; however, some have fallen through the checks and are still in game. Many times anti-decay kits have been placed on these sabers and now will always give an inherent bonus to the owner as they're allowed to keep their exploited item without fear of decay. Which brings up another point, no decay on pearls and crystals will mean that there will be less reason for Jedi to pay the millions of credits for them from other players. Once again it's another may / may not play into things for better or worse.

I was thinking that as time passes, and more legendary and exceptional weapons are looted, and more people receive ADK rewards, that the server will be loaded with uber non-decaying weapons. Somehow that don't seem right, and might not make weaponsmiths very happy. Have to see what happens with CU and whether ADK's are still useful for those new weapons, and what new legendary type weapons drop in the new system. I got an ADK on my lightsaber. I honestly can't believe that this is in game. I could grind my whole template with that saber now. Well only time will tell.

why does everybody think these 'uber' weapons drop everday? they don't
what are they.... 1:2,000,000 of a chance in dropping off a difficult mob.
i think people blow this entire issue way out of scope. these type of 'impacting looted weapons' can be counted on one hand..on my server.

Hmmm a tantilizingly evil thought. I feel the work of the Dark Side in this Anti-Decay Kit.

I believe that you are correct about the removal of extreme gear from the game. I also believe that a goal of these kits was a redistribution of wealth.
Prior to getting my AD kit, I had +11 med exp toward the +20 that I needed for 20pt doc. After selling my kit for 15 million credits and buying a +7 med exp tape, I'm now only +2 away.
The guy that bought the AD kit probably had 200 million in the bank, doing nothing. So now he has an AD kit, and I got some stuff I really wanted.
That story is replaying all over the Galaxies, as previously impoverished individuals suddenly have millions.

I just happened to have an Executioner's hack with a max damage slice. Those weapons are already adjusted for the curb, so I am now the happy owner of an uber post-curb Hack that will not decay.

What about my Scythe??? It's not an Uber weapon, but being that it's a limited use schematic I don't want it to be destroyed so I slapped an ADK on it. The notion that all things with ADK's on it will be destroyed for the Combat Balance will be devastating to those of us who don't have millions, don't have anything Uber, but do have something that's just good enough that we really like it and don't want it to go away...like my Scythe!!!

same here... i am in desperate search of a ADK for my scythe, as i am apparently 90 days out and i don't want to wait. I'm in aggreance with people when they are complaining about "legendary" weapons... they don't drop nearly as much as you think they do. but it will be interesting to see what role they will play for the CURB. as far as legendary/exceptional weapons getting destroyed.... it's probably not happening as much as you think... i know if it were me i'd make sure that they new item i just got is definately worth destroying the old one... after all, my new item still has plenty of condition left before i need to worry.

Can you remove ADK's from weapons once used on them? I thought they were permanent. I put one on a weapon but get no option on the weapon to remove the ADK...
