No rule, but I just don't see it working too well ... somebody's likely to undercut you ... a LOT of somebodies, actually, enough that you can't buy them out.

i dont really see how it could be done. unless you are on a server like wanderhome that has a very small player population and become a crafter of some sort and you are the only crafter of, say, weapons on that server, then you can charge 100k a weapon and no one will do anything. unless someone else comes along and starts making weapons and sells them for 10k apiece, you have the whole population in the palm of your hand. there are still too many people on each server, even one like wanderhome.

Some people are lucky, some work really hard for their monopolies.

Seriously... it is impossible to have a monopoly in this game.

Yes a total monopoly would be very difficult if not impossible.

But someone could dominate a certain market to the point that they are almost a defacto monopoly for certain products of low demand and/or low supply. e.g. you can't monopolize aluminum but you might be able to corner the market on Freedom paintings. Even that limited kind of monopoly however is not likely and would be very hard to sustain.

True, there are mostly oligopolies rather than monopoliesin the game. Anyone can freely enter that particular market, but it may cost a significant amount in terms of credits and time to get the pertinent high quality resources and skill enhancements.

After thinking about it a little, I'm fairly certain a monopoly couldn't be sustained in this game. You would need to provide a good or service that no one else would be able to provide themselves (at the same level of quality), which is obviously not possible since everyone is technically on a equal footing for attaining loot and skills in the game.

Even if you could meet this first requirement, it would also have to be a good/service that is in high demand. Like the person who posted above saying that he has a monopoly on crated survival knives (lol) it is only apractical monopoly if there is actually a demand for such a thing. As it stands now, I don't think there is a single item in the game that would be considered to be "must have" and therefore the demand will taper off if you jack up the price too much.

You don't have to stop other people from being able to produce, just make it so that nobody else wants to. That would be done by undercutting the competition to the point that they can't make any money AND producing enough so that you can fill market demand. It would be very hard to do for most items. But you wouldn't need 100% of the market for your impact to be felt.

Crated survival knives are actually an item that someone could monopolize. (smugglers use them to grind slicing xp) For one its possible that nobody else is really interested in making it cause there just isn't that much business. But there is enough demand for 1 person to easily fill. But if you did have some competition you could undercut them long enough that they leave the market.

You couln't monopolise on a server, but with the help of all the other crafters, you could decide on price fixing.

Car companies used to do it until it got banned. I think it was called something liek a 'Cartel'

Oil companies probably still do it today

A group of companies getting together and deciding a price higher than market value and agreeing not to drop below this price.

Agian you need everyone to be willing. Good Luck

thats the good part with player economy. evry one can start craft. so even if the 10 best lts say AS on an server does this, someone else can also try to be as good as they are and drop price under.

but it can be done this way, nothing impossible. it just take more time to do
