Thread: A fix to inflation: Devs Plese Read
This is a copy of what I typed up for another poster saying we need to fix inflation. (Its amazing how often this gets brought up in new posts. Why can't they just read other peoples stuff) Anyways:
now, I haven't been playing long, I will admit that. But, when I came on the game, I seen it costed 100k for an xwing. I found out how long it would take me to even GET to that part of the game, I was thinking, ok, I can handle that. Then I looked at houses. OK, I need to save up X amount of credits to buy a house. That is something to work for. Wait, there are some cool clothes on that vendor. OK, let me go work towards getting that.

ok, i dont know if this has been discussed before, and i am sorry if it has but here i go.....
why not have some kind of system with credits, something like a fixed amount of credits being passed from toon hand to toon hand...........
because inflation is a problem int he game, just put a fixed amount of credits, and mabye release more credits once a week or something?
anyone please respond with ideas to build on this. thank you for your time.
Same Scenario every time one of you brings this to the forum... Because then that item that YOU want that is above the limit you have planned for the exchange maximum, Would not be available to YOU still because no one would have it for sale because it would no longer be worth it to them to obtain it for YOU...
If you don't like the prices don't pay the money... IF enough people refuse to pay prices will lower but the most likely result will be that you are left protesting by yourself while the people that really want the item go out and put the effort into earning the money to get the item.
Judging by the OP sig they won't be ingame too long anyway, it smacks of the classic 'I want it, I want it now and I don't want to have to earn it' mentality.
You want to'fix' inflation?? Not that it exists at all but the only way to do it is nerf mission payouts, that is the ONLY way credits enter the game.

watch your mouth........im doing this for the good of all, there is nothing i have interest in buying right now that i cant make myself
Just curious. Why does he/she need to "watch their mouth"? I don't see any flames in their response.
As to your suggestion, congrats. You are the 10000th person to post about the "broken, inflated, etc." economy in SWG. The thing is, there's nothing wrong with the economy. There is nothing that needs to be fixed. The matter has been debated time and time again in hundreds of posts. Prices are "high" but so are earnings. They are pretty much in balance. You can't gauge anything about the economics of this game based on the real world, which is what I think many people do. The game economy is regulated by SOE, and it's one of the things they do well. They have the appropriate information and statistics AND the necessary facilities to regulate the flow of "money". I won't explain it all to you because you can read it all for yourself by searching for threads on this board.
As a general rant, NOT directed at the poster, why is it so hard for people to grasp that economic issues are pretty much non-existent. If its not inflation, it "BARCs are ruining the economy" or "too many good SEAs dropping are ruining the economy". In the end, it always seem to come down to "I don't have it/it's messing with my money, so it's bad." Maybe some folks shouldn't play games they have to share with other people.

Its not for the good of all. Like he said, some things are expensive because it requires hard to get items. Why would somebody go through that trouble for anyone else if he doesn't get any more out of it than that basic xwing he built last week? He wouldn't. you put a cap on the economy, and I guarantee you, a lot of the crafters will leave the game. That will in turn ruin your game, because GOOD stuff will be hard to find. Leave the economy the way it is.

Where and what do you see so inflated?
I'm on Bria and I have yet to see this inflation.
Some vendors sell stuff for more then others, so I would say, shop at the cheaper ones.

First of all, Inflation does not equal high prices. Inflation is where an item is worth X credits today, 2X credits in six months and 3X credits in a year. In most cases, the prices have settled down such that the cost of an item is the same it was a year ago and even two years ago.
What you are complaining about is Supply and Demand. If the Supply is low or the Demand is high, the price of an item will rise. IF the Supply is high or the Demand is low, the price will drop. In general the price will flucuate as supply and demand change.
By enforcing credit transers, you are basically placing everyone on a strict budget. If you want something more than the budget allows you must make payments over an extended period of time. Without some complex escrow account where you pay into is and the seller puts the item in, and the buyer only gets the item and seller gets the credits when the buyer has made all the payments, it is open to sever greifing.
In general there is no way to make a system like this work without destroying the player economy. Best understand that Supply and Demand is about the best system there is, not perfect maybe not even good but better than ALL the alternatives.
i know what inflation is, notice how i left this open to ideas.....no has the right or the need to bash me, im just a guy whos willing to help with things that others would be too selfish to think about.....seriously people you all need to stop thinking with your head and start thinking with your heart....gosh.....

Therein lies the rub. Why would I spend hours of my time getting to and killing necrosis or some higher level npc/critter when I could have fun hanging out, decorating, helping newbies, etc?
Krayted weapons are expensive for a reason, and that's the long period of time spent killing high end creatures hoping for a drop.
