Thread: Crafting shortage after the CU

I have been concerned about a shortage of crafters after the CU goes live. I suspect many will be upset to the point of quitting by having their net worth destroyed, and their lifestyle made impossible.

Why the huge losses? Because the value of goods and resources will change dramatically. Multi-million credit weapons will convert to ordinary ones, super resources today will become only OK ones that are useless for the crafter's premium products. Only a few of their most valuable assets will retain their value.

It also looks like it is going to be much harder to move around without high level combat skills, which combined with a (temporary?) shortage of good resources will make their lifestyle impossible. Perhaps something will be done about this tho. Blistev wrote the following yesterday in response to "(Quick Poll) Tailor Issues in the CU"

"Inability to tend harvesters/survey without getting killed

Global crafter issue we are looking at, we have a few suggestions on the table for it."

I think something serious is needed to address this. The CU testing hasn't included many of the crafters yet, and they are as affected as anyone.

The economy will change in a lot of ways.

After the dust settles, people will figure out the new way and either adapt and thrive or fail.

CU won't kill off all crafting but it will change a lot of things.

Actually, my thought is to drop combat and go all crafting. Currently I have a fencer/doc and an artisan/chef/be/merchant. I hate all melee I've tested, and have never really had much of an interest in the ranged combat profs. I tested doc and cm and really didn't care for either.

So I think I'll change my fencer/doc to a crafter as well. I know the first [insert guess at time period here] will be difficult, but I'll wait it out. One thing I do know is I won't be combat. What I don't know is how long I'll last as an artisan....

STOP - this isn't a bash-the-CU post but an actual question about what makes sense to craft in such an unstable economic environment. Probably the least amount of valuble / variable resources that can actually continue to make creds.
I like Tailor pretty well - toons always be needing clothings. Architect might be swell - houses, furniture, can't nerf that stuff right?

As a novice chef I'll be making state foods rather that buffs for the short term. As a novice BE, I won't be making squat, as it's completely broken right now

I do have master artisan, so I'll make some usual suspects.. swoops, etc... for an attempt at some income for my resource purchases. I can drop harvestors for most ofthem, but looks like trying to harvest meat myself will be instadeath, since I don't really have any combat to speak of.

I'd still say in general the best demand and income will be for the stuff that combat people use which has decay. That is going to be weapons and armor for sure. I don't know how useful the food and buff products will be post-CU but they will probably have some demand. Weaponsmith is probably the safest bet. Peopleneed guns.

There is no decay for architect products. So once you've bought your house, harvesters, furniture, etc you don't need to buy any more. This means there is limited demand. Furthermore since quality doesn't vary on our stuff, we only compete on price. So we undercut each other.

But there is always some demand from new players and such. You might check your on your server to see what the market is like. Or talk to some local architects and see how business is for them.

cant go wrong with artisan hehe. everyone needs swoops, and its fun to make useless novelties that you can sell to people just on there rarity value alone. Dice set anyone?

I am and will stay a master shipwright. I've discovered something interested that's been changed about the profession that was NOT included in any documentation.

If you think there is a shortage, encourage those who are around to speak up.

Start a forum galaxie and trade forum thread for people who are still crafting, stocking, buying, suppling etc.

Let them know they have other who support them and a welcome place to advertise in one thread
Encourage folks to explain what they offer for purchase, as well as admit what they are in need of.

You will be surprised at how many took the CU as a some speed bump instead of a detour or bridgeout.

There is a shortage, my friends and i havent been find armor or replacement weapons, especially BHs like me who logged in to find my scatter is High cap and my LLC requires a higher combat level. I've also been shopping around and meeting people who have the same problems about finding stocked vendors. Everyone i see is walking around in clothing mostly, i think i only saw 1 person in faction armor

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- I support NO DECAY.It should be run like EQ . No 20k price cap on the bazar and everyone can craft. Its has worked for 7 years on everquest and there is no decay plenty of money and no crazy prices.

Decay is only good for crafteres and bad for everyone else.

There will be short term shortages of armor and guns while the crafters figure out the changes and met demand for new and different stuff.
