just as an added note...when an entertainer has a cover charge of 1000 or so...that pretty much frees me not to pay them any more than that

and if they are afk...i might not even pay the cover charge

otherwise i tip 5k or more

Entertainment is an art. How many artists do you know with money?
Artists are artists for the love of art. They arn't in it for money. If you like a lot of money, you're gonna hate art. Because unless you have a lot of raw talent for it, you aint gonna make it to the big time. And that's just the way it is folks.
If you like the entertainer profession and need cash I do have a few tips.
Take a bit of artisan and survey for resources.
Resource hunting requires few skillpoints and pays extremely well and can support your dancing or music profession.
By the way, if entertainers could make it on their own, they'd be the only profession to do so. Every other profession is at least partially dependant on other professions to be successful. As it is dancing and musician are the most independant professions in the game.

You can't eat art. Trying to relate art in-game to art in the real world isn't going to work.

Another thing, artists in real life often have a job to support their art or they have gotten a grant from another organization to make art. And art is freaking big business, don't you think those artists like to be rich?

Exactly my point. Art is most often a hobby that requires the support of another profession, thus my suggestion of reource mining. I'll acknowledge that some do make it big, but they are few and far between. Most 'artists' are just slacker lacking the talent and motivation to make it big.

Art is big business in real life because some polititian got the bright idea of robbing me at gunpoint (ie taxes) and subsidizing crap (sometimes literally) and call it art. As long as the government throws my money at it, sure it's big business, and there will always be 'artists' to suck it up. There are exceptions, sure, but for the most part, it's a really wierd welfare program.

Do artists want to be rich? Sure they do! Who doesn't? But are they willing to do what it takes to get rich is the real quiestion ...

You didn't understand my point though. Art in real life has nothing to do with art in-game. What is the purpose of a class that has no use other than RP? Every class should be necessary in every aspect of the game.

Probably because the rise of the AFKers was one of the direct reasons for the decline of the profession.

I do agree that entertainers do NOT get tipped anymore but...

I got mad when I saw this comment

Or how many of you crafters leave your AFK factories pumping out crates of sellable items while you sleep at night (you can make the items individually one by one while you are at the keyboard)?

I would f'in LOVE to craft everything by hand BUT some things MUST come from a factory crate. I'm an Architect....I've made 10 equipment factories ALL BY HAND in one sitting.... thats 300 structure modules, 30 walls.....etc...

Entertainers have it hard. It's a social profession and it has been nerfed to the extreme by game changes.

But I still belive the "I don't tip AFK entertainers" is just a cop out. If you're so offended by AFKers, don't watch/listen. Don't take a free ride. But there it is. Too many people use the AFK arguement as a free ride to cheapskatesville.

this would be a fair statement except for one thing...quite often there simply are no other choices

if its the AFK entertainer versus no buff at all, then of course people take the 10% buff...and no tip

if its a choice between an AFK entertainer and somebody who is actually willing to talk to you, then yes, time to blow off the AFK people and tip the ATK person

not taking the free ride punishes no one but me if there is no one available ATK...blowing off the AFK people in favor of someone who is ATK is making a statement, and i'm paying for it

I have never seen a factory walking away from keyboard, sorry. Nor do they have a "profession". They are machines. Entertainers are people.

Their profession is entertainment, not applying buffs. The latter is just a positive side effect. If you calculate the time that you win through the buff against the time you need to get it you will see that an inspiration buff does not make you grind XP or FP faster. And the mere 10% better chance for an aamzing success is nothing compared to what food, high quality crafting stations and high quality tools can do.

Oh, and concerning the covercharge topic: Personally I think the covercharge function is a good function. The only reason why it doesn't work is because no-one uses it, making it seem demanding when people people charge but a single credit. Which it is in fact not.

Ok, I kinda see your point. Don't get me wrong I don't agree with the removal of Battle Fatigue either. Entertainers could also stand to have more useful buffs. But at some point you have to admit that for the most part entertaining (whether in real life or in game) just isn't a cash cow for most would-be entertainers.

As opposed to the vast majority of people IRL who make a bundle by killing stuff all day. Or collecting loot in space. Or makethings to sellfrom stuff they dig up from the ground and a handy little crafting tool all finished in a snap. Or make even more money bounty-hunting people in cult-like robes waving glow-sticks.

Of course entertainers deserve to be starving artists in the game, since the gameis such a realistic social documentary of our world

I agree this game is not susposed to be like real life...but it should be more like the "real Star Wars". therefore here a just a few fixes the developers must do.. They have been asked for over and over and I am still waiting myself for some kind of acknowledgement from SOE that they actually read this forums.

1. Bring Battle Fatigue NOW. So entertainers are required in game and others must go listen and watch regularly like before. Also, it makes more sense that in combat you should get tired eventually and it should affect your combat. Combat now is soooooo dumbed down and boring it's ridiculous. If this is what everquest is like, no wonder people are leaving it in droves also.

2. Get rid of "magic healing". We doctors should have to use meds as before to heal others. You can make it so that a medic or doctor can use a stim pack A and it has the same effect as a non-medic using a stim D but lets get real.... In Star Wars, no one not even general jedi can heal with out medicine. Even jedi need healing training to use the force.
