there is a big difference between "working" and playing a game. i play swg to play a game . i don't play swg to be cut-throat, selfish, or get ahead by exploits. you are right. i am venting. i am truly sorry if i offended anybody the "venting" you are seeing is a misunderstanding. of all of these replys the majority of them have been slaps in the face about not "working hard enough", or wanting everything handed to me. that is why i made the statement about how i HAVE WORKED HARD. but i feel i shouldn't have to get a lesson in economics, or swg trade, or what's hot and what's not. that is a part of the game that i don't enjoy. i don't feel i should have to partake in that essence of the game if i don't want to. up until now, after reading the kind replys that i have recieved i thought i had no hope. but i took that advice. i ran some rebel pilot missions and made some good credits. i went and collected some good hides earlier today, and i am in the process of selling them for a good profit. either one i had no clue about. so please, before somebody else decides to unintentionally flame me, remember that i am playing this as a GAME, not as a life accomplishment. i don't, or won't take pride in a GAME. so go ahead whoever is next. pick a part of anything i said on this entire thread. bash away.but i won't forget those who helped me, and if any way in my time on this game i will try to return the favor.

Wow Green-Guy... sometimes you just gotta throw off the gloves and get in to an all out slapfest huh?

I kinda feel bad for you Xplan4U. Really. My heart goes out to you but I think what you're asking for is to be able to quest to earn something instead of grinding out cash missions in order to buy it. I'll save the lecture about economics (but boy..someone at SOE really needs one) but you gotta understand that the economy of this game is driven by the simple supply/demand principle. Crafters make stuff and in return for credits or services we get stuff from them. The price of the scythe blade isn't too far fetched from what it costs on my server. Although...for 500K i could actually afford it . If you're asking to be able to get top end weapons as drops or quest items you're in the wrong game. When SWG was released SOE said that player made stuff would be better than game drops or NPC made stuff, and they've been true to their word. Anything the game makes a player can make better, with the exception of the super-rare drops in the Nightsister Caves. Unfortunately for everyone, the players have looted 5 years worth of drops in the course of the last 6 months so we're all kinda -out at this point. If you're hoping for a sympathetic ear you're probably barking up the wrong Sand Crawler. The crafters are firmly rooted in the game and for good reason, I think.
If you're looking for something new then go do PvP. Swordsman are good at PvP. Make a melee-stacker and start wailing on people. That's my suggestion.

I took up Bounty Hunter 'cause grinding cash missions got boring and the Galatic Civil War is deader than Disco. That's not true... I took up BH cause I hate Jedi.
Moving on: If you want to 'climb the ladder' go ahead and make a Jedi. There's nothing more powerful in the game, hands down, and they've got all sorts of silly quests and they make their own lightsaber and apparently get to sew their own robes. You won't have to rely on armorsmiths or weaponsmithsanymore. You'll practically remove yourself from the economy and you're sure to find other Jedi that will protect you. You'll get a 'luck skill' that will make you more likely to find rare loot items. I mean...this sounds like a win/win situation for you. All you have to do is avoid those meddling kids and their dog! Plus...it'll give me and my fellow bounty huntersanother target.
If this doesn't work for you then you should honestly consider playing WoW or Everquest. Lots of quests and drop items and stuff like that.

Good luck to you,

--Jack

Nice point. Thank you for your input. You are a perfect example for what i am trying to say. You should be rich. Your credits should be based off of the mastery of your chosen proffesion, instead of businesses or looting. For the record, i am not bashing anyone with a business. That is their fun, and i have mine, but for crying out loud this is a GAME. I should not be poorer than the next guy because i haven't found a great way to make money. So before anyone tries to teach me lessons on life REMEMBER THAT THIS IS A GAME. And in a game, everyone can win.

I didn't think there was a way to 'win' SWG. And besides, I thought the whole point of games in general was that someone can win, not everyone.

Players in SWG can 'win' in different ways according to how they play. With some it's striving to build a successful business and being rich, for others it's conquering all the high-end mobs in the game and getting good loots etc. Others have yet different goals.

I really hate this 'I want it, I want it now, I want it without having to strive for it' mentality that is creeping into this game. People have achieved because they have worked to achieve. End of story.

A few things jumped out at me when reading this thread:

1) You have to look at what makes a game fun for you. Is it having a lot of money? Is it doing quests? Is it the challenge of overcoming an obstacle? Is it performing for others? It sounds as though several of you are doing "a game" that is no longer fun for you.

I came to this point about a month ago, and all it's taken is removing the things that made the game "not fun" and doing more of what makes it "fun". It may be a template change is in order.

2) I also came into this game a little over a year ago. I didn't know anyone. I started with 200 credits. I didn't have a vehicle for 2 months, didn't have a house for 3. It didnt bother me because I was having fun and liked the challenge of trying to stay alive on Tatooine without a vehicle or a mount.

3) Yeah, I'm a merchant. I love being a merchant. I have a lot of money. You know how I got my money? It was not by manipulating others, by AFK grinding, or by making multiple alts. I sold stuff I found. I have never mastered scout (although that was my goal when I started playing, kinda got sidetracked there). I sold stuff I looted. I decided I liked artisan and put down harvesters and made stuff like the others have suggested. I sell stuff people want at fair prices and provide good customer service.

But I have friends who have never crafted a single thing and have way more money than I do. How? They spend wisely.Theysell their loot, and/or have scout and sell hides, bone, meat, and eggs. Some buy low and sell high. Some provide services to others (information brokers for guilds, buffing, bounty hunting, etc.). Some just run missions. Find what you like to do that pays and do it!

4) I firmly believe that if you do what is fun for you then you will make money in this game. You just wont make 10 mill tomorrow. But I never expected to do so. I'm not sure how long you have played but it sounds as though you want to be rich now. Not gonna happen. But you can get there if you really want to.

There have been a lot of really good suggestions here. My suggestion is to go read them again if makingcreditsis important to you for your game to be fun for you.

player-based economy. enough said, haha. have any of you ever played DAOC? i mean its amazing how much more fun that game is someimes. in SWG i get the feeling of being surrounded by people that are going to try to take advantage of me just like real life. the PBE turns this from a fun game into a work just like real life game watch ur back at all times ur friends arent really your friends type of thing.

give people a way to get uber weapons without going though the profession related to the item and that profession is gonna get pissed. I think the answer soe tried to give to this problem was weapon enhancement parts.
gives the combats uber weapons and gives the crafters business. same with armor peices BE and tailor lots of professions are related. it just isnt working very well since the game is sorta in beta still no matter what SOE says.

1. i see no whining in my posts, just ideas and problems
2. why waste your time to "/flame". what is that accomplishing?
3. good for you that you have played for a year. this is a GAME, not a career.
4. if i make it to the 1 year mark i will be giving encouragement, not flames. i hope you don't directly treat noobs on your server like that.
5 i have played Command and Conquer: renegade for 3 years. am i above anybody else that plays that GAME? sure, i know just about all there is to know about the game. does that give me the right to flame the new guys? nope. all i can do is give them polite advice, and help. the rest is up to them.

Well you did say you were angry when you wrote your post, so decent chance you were complaining about something.

Most weapons in game are lootable. The problem is that with a few exceptions, all those looted weapons really blow. There's this POI where you can loot a T-21. A bad, slow T-21, but still a high level rifleman weapon.

This particular game is far too easy. IMHO, a hard quest is one that takes months to finish and requires assistance from at least 50 people preferably in combat and interaction.

I have always had odd templates which aren't "uber" in pve, and have never been a hard core crafter. I have played less than2 hours in the lastweek and am by no means a powergamer. But in the few hours/time I play I can easily gather enough money togive some away and have plenty left over. This is a player based economy, and taking the basic items away from the crafters really does hurt them. All that giving the basic items of a prof to quests would do is removethe trip to a shop which you would have done if the quest was for money. And that trip takes less than5 mins now with reduced shuttle times, all you need to do is afk a friend for a wp of a well stocked shop and go to it. It seems like your first post was made when you knew nothing about the subject you were speaking of, and just whining about something without even putting a small effort into figuring it out. Just out of curiosity what kind of things were/are you doing that you weren't/aren't making enough money to buy equipment.
