Thread: Ingame calculator required.

sorry phaelyn but I'm a programmer and I totally disagree and it is quite disputable.
TRUE - any change to code can have unforseen effects resulting in client stability, or bug creation. and yes, this game is quite prone to these effects.
but ask yourself why....
they have how many people working on how much code? there's the reason for the stability and bugs. how many different SETS of people have they gone through. every developer and group of developers has their own programming style, and when you change programmers or teams out or add new people it makes it really difficult. a simple calculator program would be an easy addition to the code and would more than likely not cause any unforseen results because its simple, basic, and could probably be done by one person.
my point is not to discredit that putting a calc into the game would cause problems, its the fact that you say that WHAT you say is indisputable... and it totally is very disputable

I thank you, pircio for your insight - It is my error for generalizing to the extrme to hammer home my point that any chance *could* have unforseeable effects. You illustrate why it's not likely - But at the same time, you admit it's not impossible.
I just wish more people could understand my concerns OTHER than the ones they latch onto. In this instance, my issue with coding was latched onto. Somehow that took all the focus away from my other points - Maybe I'm a dreamer, but I honestly DO feel that what we as a community should be asking for are things that benefit the community, and not some portion thereof. I'm not against an in-game calculator. I most likely as a shipwright would use it, as I do the calculator at my right hand now. it just galled me that someone perceived it as a required thing to be added. I would (And I hope others would as well) much rather see concerns such as the CU/RB, fixing broken mods, etc taken into account long before I would the calculator.
Otrib
How this isn't in the game already is beyond me... Should be very simple to do as well...

Then we should troll all requests in those boards because others not fixed. Those are IDEA boards, you can easily type "this round answer" to every thread in that board. "Fix something before adding something new"...
I use the notepad to keep track of when my harvestor needs more maint, but if they would add a mail system for this that would be cool. You would receive a mail when your harvestor had like less than a week's maint in it. I also use my notepad to keep track of my lots that are being rented, items for my vendors that people have offered me (to keep track of when they siold so i can pay them back).
If I had a notepad next to my computer I would probably lose it..

Having a child, a couple of cats, and a girlfriend who forgets to put things back in their place makes having a calculator near at hand a sometimes difficult task.
