All I see this proposal doing is introducing a middleman. Crafters need to make a profit. Salespeople need to make a profit. In the end, the end-user of the product gets screwed, especially the way players do math in this game. It's never 5% markup, but some multiple of CPU. Greed would ruin the economy.
Just as an interesting twist - When this thread was started, the changes as proposed by te Devs were unknown to us. Well, the voices of many were heard, and the proposal was taken back to concept..
But my question is - If Galaxy wide search and purchase were implemented as stated by Tiggs - Would the separation of Merchant and Artisan have made more sense?

All I know for sure is...
I hate having to depend on someone else for my combat profession: Having to spend half an hour traveling around getting "Buffed" so I can fight anything meaner than a Meatlump and survive the engagement. Having to beg for Solo Groups so I can make decent credits for my time. Having to gather a hunting party for large beasts (Kimo, Krayt, Rancor) makes sense, but if Han Solo can kill Greedo with one shot from a DL44 pistol, I should be able to take care of myself in uber sliced composite armor with a flamethrower...
I'd hate to see the crafting profession get nerfed by having to deal and haggle with a middle man just so I could sell my wares. I enjoy having my shop, decorating my shop, choosing my vendors, and the whole process involved there. What's more, I've invested alot of time and effort into getting this far, and I don't appreciate the idea of someone lobbying to take it away from me because they don't want/like the same things in game that I do.
My compromise: Anyone who is going up the Engineering or Domestic Arts line just for thier chosen crafting profession gets the extended bazar options you've talked about. Less skill points involved, greater ability to sell. Just what you've been asking for...right?
Anyone who goes Master Artisian then specializes in a crafting field should get the benefits of Merchant, but do away with the Merchant profession as a point sink. Master Artisian = Master Merchant. Maybe increase the experience points required in the Business line to offset the end of the Merchant profession?
How about that?
