Let's take a look ata situation that shows us one of the esteemed rich.Although an interest rate would be useful for the poor, because what little money they did have, they would be adding to it, depending on the business cycle you would decide to implement. So the poor would be helped out, if only minimally. Someone who had a fortune, millions of credits, could basically sit by and not do anything as they rake in more and more money. Enough to cover their daily maintenance, buy buffs, repair their belongings and potentially have some left over. I saw that one person even said that if this was implemented, they could opt to never craft an item for money again. Well, if thats the case, just wait a while with the interest rates and before long you could have a different kind of business: Stockpiling. You could go around and use your interest, perhaps in conjunction with others and buy up the valuables. You see where this is going. Sell off your stockpiles, a little at a time, add to your bank, MORE interest, [impact] the business sector, consequently[impact] the consumer and everyone is disatisfied.
At least three other abusive practices came to mind when I saw this, but I will leave it at this for now. I may add to it later.

i can't disagree with adding bank interest to SWG strongly enough. The last thing the economy needs is more ways to pour money into it.

The problem with loans is that players can re-roll yet, tying the debt to your account seems wrong too.

I'm not sure how re-rolling a character would make much difference, other than possibly an unpaid debt on a now-deleted character. If I'm missing something please expand.
EDIT: Ahhhh, now it starts to become clear... A character gets a loan from the bank, that character then tips the loan to another player, the character is then re-rolled, and the other player tips the cash back to the new character. Ah yes. Not good.

Exactly. And players with more than one accountcould rinse and repeat endlessly to get a load of credits very easily. I think loans in any MMORPG are a bad idea...there's just no way to implement an effective enforcement mechanism.
Edit: Hehe, this reminds me of something I used to do with the original Bard's Tale. Make a party, transfer all the money and equipment to one character, delete five of the party members, then make five new ones...rinse and repeat.

More money in game: Bad idea
More money in game ---> higher prices ---> more frustrated beginners, that cant even buy a bone armor
Now prices are already so high on chimaera, its ridiculous! I don't understand why so many people have nothing to do then playing this game to collect money and wanting more and more. And how can interests help the poor beginners? At the beginning you have 1000 credits, after buying an bone armor ... ah, I forgot, its too expensive on chimaera, because everyone wants to get rich .... ok, after saving money for some weeks you perhaps have 10.000 on bank (like me) .... interest rate 2% ... so you have 10.200 now ... WOW that makes a difference, now every poor guy doesn't have problems anymore. What can you buy for the 200 credits? A cdef pistol, great.
Only the rich people want interests, its like in reality. Look at the Trade Forum auctions, people bid millions on unique items, paying 45cpu for resources ... The devs should integrate sth that in singleplayer games is normal for years now: At 99mio credits theres a cut, you can't earn more! Than you money freaks perhaps loose the interest in playing swg and inflation will slow down.
I have 4 mio on bank, don't need more. *lol* A friend an I share our lots to harvest some energy with fusion generators. I have a shop to sell it, the vendors make ~1mio a week. Earning 1 mio is enough to buy everything you want and tip half the money to my friend, and we are fighters that need armor and all this stuff like toilet paper.
Money kills this game!

Could have the 5% you banktip start adding up towards the maximum amount you could attempt to request a loan for and based on your "credit rating" you would be able to get a loan for a % out of that max. The abuse is automatically controlled by credit rating. If you never pay on your loan per the bank's contract agreement then you can't get another loan, period. and a comma.. Ahem

ok, I have 10s of millions , sometimes Hundreds of Millions.
if I got Intrest I think it would make me so rich I would never have use to sell or grind $.
So I as a Rich gy think its not smart to do this, even tho it would make me richer.

Bad idea. If someone with enough money were to get interest, and they were a crafter, what would the incentive be to craft? It'd make it hard to find goods to buy. There are other issues too, but free money in an mmorpg is not good.

I think it would be a good idea they take money from you if you bank tip someone so they are getting some money so in return we could get some interest. I think the money would have to stay in the bank a while before you even start getting any interest but a little each month would not hurt. I would also I to see and admin on the bank so that if you have more then one account the other toon can get money or items out of the bank also without having to trade, log off, log on other toon, get the item or money from friend and then if you want to play as the other toon log it back on.

I think we should get interest. we should also be able to take out loans with super high interest rates. Have the money automaticly taken out to repay the loan. Just like life you get into debt when you are young and spend the rest of your life trying pay it off.
