I dont have much to say about these vendor changes except that they suck, bigtime!

I recently started gathering resources and BE tissues to start on my way to becoming a chef. Now i realize my foods will nto be anything near what the old-timers make, and that i have to depend on good location, advertisement and a great deal of luck to be able to make a living of it. These new changes totaly ruins my hopes of ever making it. Why would someone buy my brandy when they can get alot better from the exact same spot? probably at the same price or cheaper to.. again, this just sucks!

Of course if you look on the bright side, it will also open your business up to people that might never have stumbled across your vendors in the first place. I've spent days looking for items in the past, going from town to town, vendor to vendor with no luck. Now I will be able to find your products without getting totally frustrated and simply giving up.

With the money floating around, quality will mean a lot more than price. So simply make the best product you can and you should be fine.

He's right. I currently buy stuff from four people (not including loot vendors). A weaponsmith, armorsmith, and two different chefs. WIth the new changes I will be able to see EVERYONE'S product. Naturally I will buy the best product out there, but they can also price accordingly. If prices drop they will drop for crafters also. Resource prices will, I assume, drop alot because of this new competitive market.

I think this will be a great change to the economy. And I'm sure they are not finished tweaking this idea yet.

Let's talk economics.

Let's say you run missions for 40 hours for a given week. You can make about 8 Million credits doing this, actually more.

Let's say you craft for 40 hours a week, which is what I do. I make about 2 Million a week, maybe 3 on a good week.

So actually it is ALREADY more profitable to run missions then craft.

How can people actually say that prices dropping is good? Crafting is suppossed to be a perfectly viable way to make money. The proportion is already lopsided, what is the point of making it worse?

Allowing combatents to keep more money and pass less on to crafters is a bad idea.

Worst idea i have ever seen.

Im actually to enraged to post constructivley on this issue myself so instead i will paraphrase a post made on the development thread by my in game Business partner-

"This would be the biggest disaster for the economy you could think of. We have a well established community of malls - that infrastructure will disappear over night.

We havesome problems with people becoming merchants or who move into a profession without any businessknowhowand undercut prices to the extent of losing money - this will be massively exaserbated and we will just end up with price wars.

For many people there is much fun in roaming the galaxy and shopping through the malls - that will be ended and you will lose a whole raft of people.

Fundamentally if this gets anywhere we can say goodbye to crafting and the merchant economy overnight.

This seems to be a knee-jerk reaction to those few who have no patience and want everything in the game delivered to them on a plate."

Says it all really

Folks, I hear a lot of Chicken Littles running around shouting that the sky is falling! Well I have news for ya, it's not. Just as the solo-group was changed, so must the vendor system. And there will be more changes, and more changes, and more changes, that's what life is all about. After this, expect pay outs for missions to change again, and then there will be more changesafter that. Everybody has been crying that the game economy is so unbalanced, well yeah! It is! But to fix the economy, changes have to be made, and this is a good start. Relax, take a deep breath, and learn what economics is all about.

The real life business enviroment is brutal and VERY cut-throat. With a new type of competitive system coming for the game, you are now going to have to find new innovative ways to sell your products. As several people have stated, make a quality product, set a fair price, and people will buy it. This WILL be a good thing for everyone, you just have to give it a chance.

So to balance the economy we keep the money in the hands of the combatants and kill the crafters? We encourage huge price wars that the independants cant compete with as the guilded players often get supported by lots, resources etc by guildmates and can afford to drop prices to an insanely low level and keep qaulity high? We kill player cities of by reducing the flow of non residents into a city as no one will browse anymore?

Why do so many players of this game want everything handed to them on a plate?! Tell you what lets fill the servers with automated afk robots who get given everything to them on log in as that seems to be what people want!!

(not flaming BTW just passionatley anti these changes!:smileytongue

First off, only those that perceive the economy is broken have said that. Many of us have pointed out time and again that the economy is NOT broken. But it's sure about to be.

Using your "real world" environment, people who make the "best" items make the sales, no matter the pricing point. That will not be the case here. There are limits to how good an item can be. there can be no single crafter who makes the "best" - We all have the same limits. What this will turn into is a system where people will ONLY sell the best. There will soon be no variance whatsoever in stats, as only the "best" will be purchased. Since you can see every product in the Galaxy, only the "best" will sell. Taking that into account, the next area is pricing. Since it's all the SAME item over and over, the price will be what sells the product. But, increased visibility of items will NOT raise costs - It will drive them down - In some cases drastically. Down to the point in fact that many people you see crafting today will leave the game. Veterans who have been in since BETA are talking about leaving due to this. As far as a TRUE economy goes, this is game breaking for many of us.

They are taking a game that offered something for everyone into a purely Combat oriented game. But what good will combat be when everyone has the same weapons and armor, with no variety?

The sky may not fall - But there's not much left holding it up for players who up to this point have enjoyed being crafters or merchants.

Quote that sums up the current, flawed direction of SWG:
"No, I do everything solo and I see no reason why I should need anyone else"

Could'nt of said it better my self. Now i do have enough money and resources so i COULD compete on insanely low prices if I WANTED to but I don't. I feel my time, effort and moneyspent geting the best resources in the galaxy is worth more then the 1cpu most things will probley be sold at. So I will just quit being a crafter and probley the game as well. I can see HUGE amounts of crafters doing the same.

The technical term for this is "systems balancing", prior to release. After release, it's still balancing, but changes can be considered nerfs or enhancements.
Since you don't have it yet, if you cry nerf, I'll make sure your name is on the list to spew chicken feathers as your characters talk.

If they want to turn a profit, they'd better have a real good, generous PA or the ability to buy burnable credits on eBay.

im kinda middle on this theres some good and some bad, but id have to say it has to be limited.

only X vendors alowed or X items alowed.

make a master merchant skill or progress through other boxes.

It all sounds good but when htere is 1000 pages of armor or whatever to look through its a bit much. Look how much crap there is now.

why not raise the cap on the bazzar so people can actually sell something for over 6k.

Though for some items it could be better, resources and loot for example.

You can always turn it off which i probably will, i really like my shop the way it is and its easier to supply my regulars and guild without every joe blow buyin stuff, toomuch WORK.

Limit to planet even c'mon 1000 vendor limit X 100 merchants = 100000 items.

lets say 10 armorsmiths decide to make all there stock available. thats a potential of 10000 armor pieces on the bazzar. It be hellish it keep that stocked but still thats crazy.

1 word resellers.

srry for the point form but ideas kept commin lol.
