Gotta agree with Milgram, you have to pay extra to get things because you aren't really in the army just like in real life. The Air Force gives me my BDUs for free, but if you want some you have to pay for them.
tax players gives you your bdu. no imp tax in swg

Tax payers give service members 2 sets of BDUs. If you want (or need more), you have to pay for them yourself. And officers have to buy all their uniforms (including Dress Blues ALMOST $300(but the chicks defenently dig the blues), for the Army at least).
Slim Vargo, Corbantis
I'm an officer so i will need to buy my own
. Hopefully, FT Bliss will be issueing deploying troops the new ACUs so i won't need to them. Otherwise, its going to be checkbook time.
Anyway, I can't see how someone can complain about needing to pay more for a skin. If you are shelling out $$$ for something that looks better, that's your fault. It isn't like the faction armor actually does something more than normal armor. You are basically paying for a luxury. It is just like buying a pair of $100 Lucky pants, then complaining about how much they cost. Ummmm, isn't the point of the pants that they look a little more fashionable, and cost more?
As for no imp taxes...*rolls eyes*...ya, i keep waiting for the buildings in theed to burn to the ground becauseplayers don't pay the maintenance. As for all the NPCs that roam the streets, I wonder who is paying $15 per month to pay for all of those.

When I was commissioned, back during the Carter administration, I had to buy ALL my uniforms. There was a cash allowance for initial outlay, but it didn't cover everything. Certainly not a set of dress blues, which were not an optional expense.
At least in the US Army, enlisted do get a small clothing allowance that is intended for repair, upkeep, and replacement of initially issued uniforms. Officers are expected to pay for these things out of pocket, but then they're paid a lot more than the troops are.
The thing is, that's just day to day wear. Body armor is issued to officers and enlisted alike, out of the CIF (Central Issuing Facility) as needed on the basis of what unit you're assigned to. However, you must return the equipment you're issued (which may include uniform items like cold weather gear) when your duty assignment is concluded. The rules for people in combat zones are probably not so strict; things happen when you're being shot at.
Faction armor in SWG will continue to be expensive. AS must spend FP to obtain the schematics, you can't do factory runs (all hand crafted) which seems very strange as Imperial armor is pretty obviously mass produced. The bio-linking thing I don't get at all, what's the big deal with people sharing armor? I mean, there are ways to get around this built into the game, particularly the buying and selling of faction points. True, this creates pseudo-credit sinks, but really. It seems to be another unexplained design decision that can't be articulated by the devs for fear that an exploit or griefing mechanism will be derived from it.

Paraphrased quote from some Lucasarts source I'm too lazy to follow up....
"The Stormtrooper the the extended hand of the Emperor. Seperate from the Imperial Army, they surve a much higher purpose."
I don't remember much about it, but it is true that ST's arent really army members. We just don't see much of the actual army in the movies. More in the lore.

I agree.
The faction armor is way too expensive. Then also having to pay FP to bio-link it... What the heck is the reason for even having to bio-link? So no one can share? Okay "developers," for whatever reason you don't want people sharing faction armor, why punish us with having to run tedious faction missions or participate in mundane PvP?
Same with the quests on Kasshyk... They are so drawn out you lose interest. Having to go into space and escort, having to fly to Yavin and visit Geo Cave... Seriously, it's not fun, engaging or immersive, just tedious and annoying. If the "developers" wanted to creat some immersion they could've made Kasshyk like a real planet and not some restrictive video game where you have to follow a trail.
Seems to me the "developers" are just wanting to make everything as annoying and tedious as possible thinking that the time it takes to complete these tasks means immersion. Well, it doesn't.
If you dont plan to do missions or PvP why do you want the armor in the first place? (btw 1 hour in Deep Space = 7k FP)
Actually by the way the new RotW quests are a hell of a lot more "fun, engaging and immersive" then the old quests *cough*Mission Terminals*cough*
And what would we have gotten with Kasshyk as a regular planet? An Endor clone with randomly scattered creature spawns and more mission terminals? Kash makes a great adventure planet. Server sizes are dropping enough as it is the last thing we need is another massive planet that will be empty.
Seems to be the developers are making thinks fun and new. Did quite a few quests so far and they were a lot more fun then our previous options for "content".

The army provides me with a lot of neat toys that i am glad i don't need to pay for. You are not a part of the Imperial Army, therefore, you buy your own gear. You are a mercenary at best. If you want to counter that by saying, "But i am captian in the imperial army," if you really are a captian, go do gaurd duty on a faction base day in and day out. That is all a real captian gets to do.
This is a game for entertainment and not the real army.

When i was in the Air Force your first set was free and then i received yearly uniform allowances. The Air Force would give me money to buy new uniforms.

Moreso than millionaires, I have a problem believing each stormtrooper is in an elite skill tree and (ugh) class to use their classic weapons.
I'd love duty missions for the ground like patrol, recon, etc. Not just the tedious "escort" schmuck A here, assassinate individual B there, repeat and mix.
Missions should be massed assaults/defenses on enemy faction bases that mix PVP and PVE (BRING BACK the TEF!).
