OK here I go again stepping into it up to my neck. I absolutely love having my city and all my crafters. But it is a chore logging in each day when there are fewer and fewer players on the two servers I play on, Lowca and Wanderhome.

Now, with the house packup, I can see combining the servers and livening things up again. I am not going to debate this one with anyone. I know for a fact these two servers are seriously lacking in population and that takes a lot of fun out of the game. I am even willing to give up my city in order to have a population again.

We used to start new players in Theed, Meonia and one Tat city....plus one on Talus I think. Forget now. But....those cities were thriving and busy. Now they are ghost towns on my two servers. I hear some servers like Bria are overflowing and that is great. I know an entire guild of jedis...a rather large guild, recently chose to start from scratch on Bria rather than put up with our low population.

Well, I have worked to hard for what my charaters have to start over. I think that either their needs to be server combines or let us move our characters with all their belongings and credits to another server free.

I honestly thought about cancelling all my accounts but one and moving that character to another server that had population. BUT then I read the fine print and found out I could not take crates, CREDITS and structures and that was justs silly. No way will I pay 50 dollars for that.

There has never been any inclination by the devs, SOE or anyone other than players about merging servers.

Btw what metric are you using that shows that the rate of players leaving the game is higher than the rate they're entering?

Server mergers would really be the death of the game. Do you really think if you merge two servers with populations of 5,000 each you'd have a server of 10,000? I think it'd be the straw that breaks the camel's back for alot of players and you'd still end up with a server population not much higher than 5,000.

An equitable server merger would be difficult to achieve. You would have to basically start over with a clean slate of land rights. All structures of all players would have to be automatically redeeded (including all vendors). There would be an immediate land-rush trying to claim the best locations for vendor houses as well as player city locations. Imagine the fighting surrounding shuttle-rights on a heavily populated planet like Tat, or Corellia.

Then we get into the player posessions. I assume all credits would transfer easily. But what do you do with the crafters' stockpile of server-best resources? Do you convert them to some merged best resource? What do you do about the items that have been crafted from those resources (best of server A lightsabers might be slightly better or worse than best of server B lightsabers - what would be fair)?

What do you do if a person happens to have toons on both servers (probably happens quite a bit)? That would certainly cause some heartache for some serious gamers...

Given their propensity to not think through all of the implications of their actions, I think SOE is probably better off staying far away from server mergers.

while on Flurry, don't visit Ojes Yobe's Liquidation Vendors just 800M from Theed starport on Naboo (neg5219 3419) - cause they ain't there anymore! They are now exclusively located in Mos Athens Mall

Well, let's see, they are in no hurry to do away with the ghost cities, triple and quadruple citizenships by players no longer even playing the game, condemned structures that make a city...many cities that are dead and have shuttles, where one player is still active in the city and paying maintenance on the city hall.

Now, if they purged all the nonpaying, no longer playing people's structures and citizenships....the ghost cities would drop in size and/or disappear making room for more cities and more shuttles. And, at the same time combined some of the low population servers, it would work. They did it in Everquest, course they did not have player cities...but the names were worked out. They put X's behind duplicate names then those players were allowed to petition for a name change.

Not to mention what happens if two players have the same name.

Server mergers are a total non-starter as far as I can see.

Im sorry, but this seems like a case of "My Friends (who weren't very dedicated) have all gone, and Im alone and to much of a Vet to go and make some new friends."?

Being Left alone sucks, but at some point you have to move on, what SOE did with so & so is errivant, Are you going to wait ______ for someone who left you to come back, or to "send" for you?

Non-PC-Cities are ghost towns because they're laggy, when they're populated it doesn't make it any better.

All new players start in Mos Eisley, because there they can meet eachother, and help eachother, and actually stay in the game, where as 6-8 months ago, they'd have to get lucky for a "HELPER" to stumble upon them (noob or Vet).

Does EQ have player structures? I mean what happens when a building is in the same approximate spot on both servers? Who has to move? That's going to require a whole lot of structures to be redeeded in order to merge.

No EQ does not have player structures and ALL items in the game have the exact same stats on all servers which is why they have no problem at all merging servers on EQ. In fact, they recently merged all 5 of their pvp servers into one...im sure a lot of people were upset because each server had a different rule set...anyway as pointed out in this post merging on SWG would be quite difficult especially with player made objects and resources that are not necessarily the same on all servers.

To the poster, would you want to give up your residence and your city because your server was on the losing end of who got a particular piece of land and had the particular level 4 city slot?
