The are the same as IRL. Cash you have on hand and Bank means its in the bank. We don't have debit cards, and the devs needthe credit sink that the 5% fee costs.

Not to mention that money just flat out disappears from the bank for no reason

Well i belive in the original manual(cant find mine atm) it said that if you die in PvP your slayer was allowed to loot all *cash* on hand from that player however the bank would be untouched they scraped this very early however along with retreaving your corpse after you die(now that was annoying)

Since we've acknowledged that the original purpose for havingcash on hand and in the bank has been scrapped for well over a year, this still begs the question, why do we yet have bank/cash?

I love the safety deposit box, but I still can't see how the one has to do with the other.

Ainy is partially correct. Its a holdover from the very beginning of the game where when you died, all your gear and carried credits remained on your corpse until you ventured back out to the place of your death and looted your corpse. However, I have the manual still and it says nothing about your killer being able to loot you. At no time was that ever an option.

Others being able to loot your corpse does make sense though, and I can imagine it being an idea from early Beta. I'm glad they scrapped that idea even before the 'run back and get your body' routine.

I hated the run back and get your body routine, I would get killed in a field of Red Cons, while I was walking along, then I was screwed.

And seeing dozens of skeletons littered around Coronet wasn't great for immersion either lol.

If you want to be a Jedi right out of the box, go play KOTOR instead.
