Hey everyone, I've had the game for... almost a week. Anda lot of people say to me that they didn't think there were any new players to SWG. Some people can actually tell i'm new by the way i act. So I was wondering if i just need to keep playing and eventually pick up the way the game works or maybe I'm doing something wrong. I dont mean to come off as whining, just curious. The thing is... I see people with ads for multi million dollar items and I look at my account and see a couple thousand. Is this normal? Cuz the missions I get profit at max a couple thousand and at that rate I dont know if i'll ever reach that. Is there some key to making money? I get buffed and still get killed through the mind pool and can't get brandy or sumthin called canape cuz it already costs around 100000 at some vendors.I'm not trying to get rich quick and i'm notlazy... as far as the game is concerned...Any help woudl be appreciated.

Also, I rarely seemedics in the medical center. Is there another way to heal wounds? Oh andas of now i'm a brawler/marksman. I was thinking the othe profs would probably make more money. Any ideas/answers for me? Thanks! And see you 'round the galaxy.

Lot's of different ways to make money. Crafting, loot hunting, mission etc. But it's not instant. Just keep playing and you will earn more cash.

As for the problem with your mind there are basicly 2 ways to fix that without paying for brandy/canape.
First migrate your stats, put all possible points into mind. Second is getting a mindbuff from a musican or dancer.

Another tip is to try finding a nice guild to join. There you can often get help with starting equipent etc.

One more thing to think about is how much money do you really need? I have played a year and have about 4mil. That is maybe not much for all that time but I don't feel I need more so I give away a lot of money to needing guild mates and I give all loot to the guild crafters. You don't need to buy million credit skill tapes and weapons to have fun.

mind pool is buffed by entertainers in cantina, mutli million dollar auctions are usually held by players who have been playing for a lot longer than a week, and the best way to get money is a crafting profession or high end loot.

that said you sound as if you are doing the right thing so far, you have just begun so dont beat yourself up too much. relax and enjoy the game for what it is and try to make your way into one of the elite professions, melee or ranged for missions, crafting for money.

it takes a while before you are at the level to recieve 12k+ rewards for missions, but try and find some willing people to group with and help you out a bit. also look in the galaxy board you are on for player associations advertising for new members. a guild is a good way to get you started as most guilds will help each other out a lot.

enough from me have fun and may the force be with you

As for the medics, you will not see many in the med centers, except for new medics maybe. Most Master Docs will be buffing at the major starports like Coronet. Often medics will also be in the cantinas healing.

Frist, welcome to the game. I hope you find it an enjoyable expierence. Well first off there's nothing unusal that you have only a few thousand credits to your account. Your doing fine. The SWG economies are wildly inflated. This was due to a credit duping issue which was quickly contained, and a exploit known as 'Solo Groups' the went unchecked for far too long. It brought billions if not trillions into the economy with no adaequte money sinks. That combined with the fact the loot was seriously messed up (from an economic stand point.) Has left the economy in the anemic state you see today.

Steps have been taken to help correct some of the problems. but it will take time. But it is possible to make a good living and have a healthy bank account in the game. You need to ask youself what you'd like to do in this game. As a newbie you have an abundance of skill points. Take advantage of that right now and pick up multiple professions. This will give you lots to do, and many abilities that can help you make money.

For example, as a scout, you can harvest meat, bones, hide, milk creatures, Gather eggs. all these items are in constant and great demand. As you hunt and gain XP you can also sell what you've gathered for a constant revnue stream. Add Artisian to that and you can survey and gather resources. Drop a extractor and you can gather large quanties of resources that Master crafters will be willing to pay for. Add medic and you can make you own medicines that can be sold or used for your combat encounters.

Now when you finally get higher in skills and need more points. you can always drop some of those skills. By that point you'll be fairly self sufficent, able to make plenty of credits from higher paying missions, and you'll have a better apperiation for the mechanics of the game because you've tried many things.

I hope this helps.

May the Force be with you.

Welcome aboard

Well first off, yes this is a very large and varied game so it is about right that after less than a week there are still a helluva lot of things you don't quite get or haven't yet seen. I've been playing for over a year and there are still plenty of things I am unsure of and need to ask people about. I for example have specialised more in the combat side of things so know very little about crafting, being the mayor of a city or being a Doctor for example.

Yes it will take you time to pick things up but you are making a step in the right direction by posting here, you will find a lot of information in the different boards here. Another good idea might be to join a guild (Player association) where you have a bunch of people who will be more inclined to offer advice & guidance.

As for money, this is the eternal question. Like in real life the rich in this game find it quite easy to stay rich and the poor often struggle to break through into financial comfort but don't get upset, you are less than a week old and shouldn't be able to afford those items that are going for millions. You will be able to one day.

So what should you be doing now? As some one who has not yet mastered an elite class (such as Pikeman, Bounty Hunter, Rifleman, TKA etc..) your options are slightly limited. Your main aim at this time should be gathering experience and progressing in your chosen proffession. To boost your earnings you might take up a bit of scouting and then you can harvest meat, bones & hides from creatures you kill. If you travel to a big city like Coronet you will often see people offering good money for a particular type of meat. Gather this whilst you hunt and you gain experience + a bit of cash. Almost all meats will fetch some money, the trick is to focus on killing the same creatures so you build up a nice big stack, not go gathering little bits and bobs from allover the place.

An alternative to this is to concentrate on hunting NPCs (i.e. humaniod type enemies) as these drop small amounts of cash and some items, though most of the items will be worthless junk. Mix and match it a bit to keep life interesting

Are you wearing armour? If not your first priority should be to get enough credits for a full set of Ubese armour with 70% or more Kinetic damage resistance. Most creatures will hit you for kinetic damage. Depends which server you are on but a full set should be costing you less than 100k, hopefully a lot less.

As for Brandy, Canape's and Ahrisa (the three basic foods I would recommend for a young combatant), have you tried looking on the bazaar? Sometimes you will find individual servings for a reasonable price there. If not try sending a mail to a vendor and asking if they could drop a couple of singles on there for you to buy.

Medics tend to hang around where there is the most traffic, you will almost always find one in the med centre in Coronet and often one in places like Theed & Bestine. If you ask nicely a passing Doctor might even patch you up.

Finally take a good look at a character builder (a quick google will reveal several) and plan out how you are going to spend your points and what sort of character you are going to build. With brawler & marksman as your starter proffesions you are in danger of becoming a bit divided in your skills. Concentrate in one direction first, either melee or ranged. Once you get a mastery of an Elite proffession the whole game opens out a bit for you.

Well that turned into a bit of an essay so I'll finish now. But G'luck

Best way for a newplayer to get ahead is to join a guild. My guild(SHEN), on Radiant, has a great Newbie package. We give all newbies a all the basic weapons(like 20 or something)to take you to master brawler and marksman, we give you a suit of High Kin resists ubese, 1 Crate of Moun Gold, 1 Crate of Neutron Pixie, 1 Crate of Brandy, 1 Crate of canape, 1 Crate Melee Pups, 1 Crate of Ranged Pups, 1 of each basic harveter, 1 Medium House with maintence paid for about 6 months, 1 Swoop, and 1 Travel pack that it all comes in. Also if a Doc is on we give free buffs to guild members, and I am sure if one isnt that any vet guildmember would be more than willing to pop for buffs for a newbie.

I am sure that many guilds have similar practices, so shop around and make sure you find a guild with people that you like.

When I joined way back when, things were pretty difficult but since you do a lot of fighting I'd suggest picking up the Novice Medic skill box (as well as any other novice professions you want to try, they're cheap and you can drop them off later when you decide what professions you want to be) because for its Skill investment it's about the best box any combat template that doesn't include Doctor can get.

Your wound problems go out the window since you're capable of treating your own wounds, but you can't make quality stimpacks (for healing) or woundpacks (for curing wounds) so you'll have to buy those from vendors. I know it doesn't make sense, but you can actually use Quality B stimpacks even with just Novice Medic and if you're unbuffed those suckers will usually get you fully healed in just one or two uses.

Use Woundpacks you've bought to cure your own primary stats but you have to use the /tendwound command to cure your own secondaries; this command will fatigue you quickly (high Mind cost and it causes Battle Fatigue) so it's best to use it just before you go to a Cantina or in a location that allows medical healing and entertaining at the same time (like a Player Cantina or a Scout-made Camp) so Entertainers can burn off your fatigue while you work.

After discovering the sheer utility in Novice Medic alone, I've never dropped it. If you prefer playing solo or don't always have time to find your group of friends, it's a must.

Yes Novice Medic is a must, unless you reach a point where you absolutely need those 15 points. With novice Medic you can heal your damage pretty easily, just find a good doc to make you a crate, I would also recommend scout as you can harvest items off of the creatures you kill, and with that perhaps barter with a medic for supplies. I'm not too sure if a novice medic can use wound pack bs, if you can they will heal you up pretty quickly.

My best piece of advice is find a good guild and also get all of the base professions, it will help out, and you get to see what all of them are about.

If you are on Naritus send me a tell and I'll help you out.

right now the easyest way to make quick credits is with JTL. spend about an hour killing ships and sell the loot to the chassie dealer and you'll have close to 100k. I do this every time I get low on credits.

I needed over a year to have several millions in my bank. While others are faster some are slower. You will learn how to make credits soon enough. Best read the threads about this in this forum.
