These things aren't illegal, but what you do with them is. Clamps, auks, wuks should never be illegal like sliced stuff is.

The slicing gear ingame is more analogous to that universal key that only police can buy or kits to make semi-automatic weapons automatic. The purpose of those smuggler items is do illegal activity. I'm sure those items at Radio Shack have innoculous purposes, what innoculous purpose do smuggler items have?

Smugglers, being the sneaky bunch that they are, are trying to build support for a ban on selling sliced weapons/armor from vendors. There is a poll thread on the topic on the Smuggler forum and of course it's running like 100:1 in favor of the ban since it is the smuggler forum after all. If you value the convenience of being able to choose from sliced or unsliced weapons/armor rather than having a minority dictate what you can do, head on over to the forum and give 'em hell. Check out page 7 where I destroy all their arguments for why they think this is a good idea.

Uh, I'm a smuggler. I don't want a ban on the sale of sliced weapons/armor.

Heck, I make most of my slicing money through my arrangement with an armorsmith....

I can't say that I like having weapons and armor being unable to be sold from my vendor - HOWEVER.. I can sympathize with teh Smugglers.

Think about it. As a WS, you can make a really good weapon. Say a pair of VKs with nym motors getting @175 max damage. On Radiant, these sell for around 75k. But AFTER a good damage slice, these same VKs sell for MILLIONS. Does the Smuggler see any benefit? no - They get their base price for a slice, and the WS keeps the added profits as their own. THIS is why Smugglers feel slighted, and darned if i don't feel their pain on the subject.

any decent ws has a slicer or is a slicer himself...not to mention guilds...

they can do whatever they wish but not letting us buy sliced weapons is a selfish thing...if u want dibs on the profit buy them b4 they are sliced and then sell them urself as a smuggler

why should everyone suffer because u cant be self dependant?

Let me articulate for my community. SOME of our number think it will aid us as a profession to make our contraband rarer. As a smuggler/merchant I disagree. Our Correspondent DID poll on the matter, and it has polled VERY well. But that doesn't mean that it's going to happen. I think calmer heads will prevail.

On Radiant I don't buy presliced weapons. I buy weapons usually from the guild weaponsmith ( 2 of which are sadly MIA, the 3rd has dropped it to grind up to Jedi now......but we are told they will grind another WS with the other toon. ). The reason I don't buy them presliced can be pointed out by the statement from the other poster here from Radiant....they make a really high mark up on presliced ones. I can buy a couple and seek out a smuggler to slice them ( we have 2 in the guild atm ) for much cheaper than I can buy 2 presliced ones.

Now on Wanderhome, one of my toons is completely noncombat now ( though in the old daysMecinia did use to run missions with Hurlobacca, Teta and Uro ....and to you that don't know yes that's the Hurlobacca that posted this thread...and no he didn't ask that I come here and post )) and the other one has just enough rifleman to make it with midlevel threats ( she's mostly BE, CH and Scout...though master of none ). When I made my second toon on Wanderhome I knew I needed a scout to help support my other toon...sadly its hard to get folks to hunt insect meat, avian meat, eggs, crustaceans, fish, mollusk and milk ( to little is given for the time in the field ) and with that I'd need a weapon. So I headed down to Coruscant and decided it was time to buy a new weapon for this toon ( I tipped the second toon from the first ). I went into Hurlobacca's shop ( before he merged with Siymon and Bermag ) and looked over the vendor. I'd already decided on the rifle. I found a pretty good laser rifle presliced. Its price was well within reason. I bought the rifle. The problem on Wanderhome is finding a smuggler to slice your stuff sometimes, with a low population it can be hard. ( I knew Okie before he left and he was a good smuggler, but sadly he's left the game. ) It has become better lately with a couple spamming at the starports these days but still hard to find one sometimes.

My point with these two examples is to show that preslice vendors or not are greatly dependent upon server populations and such. It would be a bad idea to ban then unilaterally from vendor sales as it may do more harm than good. Some say well the slicers will get more business. No they won't. You'll see more guilds have someone run up smuggler just to slice ( much like many guilds have their own buffbots these days ). You'll also see folks buy it and then try to find a smuggler and they won't find one....they aren't that common a profession actually not with slicing 4 or master smuggler....and thus they learn to do without and once they learn to do without they no longer need the slicing. You'll see folks on the smuggler side say okay that'll be 10000 credits per percent. And folks will say nevermind...... ( One guy I remember spamming the other day in Coronet was spamming 100 credits a percent....I got him to slice my ubese armor jacket...( Mecinea's) and was happy with the slice ).

In the end I believe smugglers will be more hurt by having them banned from vendors than they currently are. If they are banned from vendors this also hurts smugglers that buy weapons and such, slice them and resale them as they will not be able to do so anymore. People need to think very hard before asking for the nerf bat>

thing is slicing isnt a skilled trade.. it's completley random.. i'll be darned if i'm gonna buy 20 weapons to get just a couple of great damage slices.. if the slicers want more money they should as a collective charge more creditsfor their services.

if so many smugglers wanted a ban, why is it so easy for me to find a smuggler to make a weaponsmith/smuggler deal with? Hell most smugglers I know have deals with crafters

I can make 2x more money selling it on an auction on the forums, away from my vendor then i can selling it on my vendor..so if thats their reason their plan is horribly flawed

I hope they get banned.

To me its not about making money..

Its about publicly selling illegal goods.

No, that's a different issue.

You don't have to ban illegal items from vendors to make them "non-public." Just make it so they can't advertise on the map. And another thing...what illegal? There IS no contraband. Not yet at any rate. When I start actually smuggling, then we can talk about getting rid of spices and slices and selling UW faction because none of that is smuggling. But until then there is a portion, small as it is, only about 5% according the poll (which is only a fraction of smugglers on the boards, much less the game), that want to sell our wares. I want illegal stuff. I want there to be consequences for buying and selling illegal actions. But I want it for IN GAME reasons, not mechanical ones. Don't BAN it. Make it part of the game.

What would you rather see a bunch on smugglers hanging around the cantina slicing and selling spice or going to a vendor and buying sliced weapons and spices off it.

Being a Star Wars fan I'd rather see the Smugglers in the cantina.
