Thread: What impact will the galaxy-wide searches have on resource sales?

There are a lot of people in SWG who currently make a virtual "living" mining, harvesting, and/or selling resources. What will the galaxy-wide searches do for them?

From the customer's point of view, buying resources can be extremely frustrating. Last week I was searching for supplies for a new craft I've taken up, and I must've spent six or more hours over the course of the week looking for resources. With galaxy-wide vendor searches that would have been reduced to as little as an hour, at least in theory. Of course, I may not have gotten my hands on some resources, like the nice little 10K stack of top-quality rare resource I happened upon in some out-of-the way vendor.

But that's really neither here nor there, since I was out looking for small amounts of rare stuff. What's going to happen to the high-volume resources, especially the in-shift stuff?

My feeling is that we're going to see some actual market forces on in-shift or recent resources. If some resource mogul is moving something at 5cpu that another seller puts on the market for 2cpu, what's to stop the mogul from buying up the 2cpu resources and marking them up to 5cpu?If someone is not moving resources at 20cpu, but sees people selling them all day long for 5cpu, maybe that person will get the idea and drop their prices.

I'm actually kind of excited about the changesas they relate toresources, since the vendor / bazaar interface and categories are actually pretty good for them, showing the type, name, quantity and price all in the same line.

It will be extremely healthy for the swg economies imho. And there will actually be market values for things instead of the wacky variation we got now. Common stuff will sell cheap and rare stuff will sell for lots. Which is how it should be i think. If these changes go live the days of selling crap resources for 5-10 cpu will definently be gone.

It may actually lower all prices. Then again, it could do just the opposite cause people will start seeing how much others sell things for. A lot of miners don't even know the value of the resources they sell. They mine to mine and usually pick the resources at the highest concentration.

SOE development team has no concept how horrid this change is going to be for all the player in the game, not just the merchants.

gone are the days of people "purchasing loot items or craftable items" to make their shop look appealling to the customers. this is going to create a scenario where people aren't going to want to spend those extra credits or even make a shop @ all. Bye bye...architect...your business is going to get cut in 3/4. bye bye loot collectors, of the household items.

why not just throw up some a few vendors in the corner of a house and keep the doors locked.

this is the worst idea i have ever heard of. i really don't think there was an issue w/the way commerce is currently conducted.

yet, another great example..how they are intending to ruin this player based economy.

If the change goes through, I might very well drop my crafting professions and start buying up undercutter's supplies and reselling them, thus becoming a pure Merchant...which is what I dreamt of when I first mastered Merchant.

thats a good business. one of our servers 'great' ex-merchants did nothing but that. he since quit the game but in the end..was one of the most successfull merchants.

its...really, just the nature of the game.

Actually you won't make a thing. As who will want to buy YOUR resouces when then can have someone esle's cheaper ones. You seem to think ONLY ONE person will sell lower than you or "market" value but its going to be SOO many no one will be able to buy them all out and re sell.

Lol - Mucus will do fine He works very hard at his trade and don't think for a moment that he is bluffing. On the other hand he has also sold many premium resources at very reasonable prices - usually lower than his competition. And atm, he really doesn't have a lot of big competitors. And he does all this while being one of the nicest people to play the game.

It might not work with resources, but those are so marked up anyway and as long as cross server trading is possible its a squirrly market. But with finished product? I think its very possible to buy out undercutters. I have quite the nest egg and I don't have to buy all of them, just certain products. I'll let others deal with the products they know most about...

I find it hard to understand all this "large-scale/small-scale" jibberjabber. I've never seen a "large scale" crafter. What exactly does that mean? Everyone has the exact same ability to produce as everyone else. Everyone's factories create at the same rate, everyone's harvesters harvest at the same rate. By large scale do you mean someone who works hard and crafts a lot? Whats bad about that?

Crafting groups or guild crafters? Everyone has that ability to, to join forces with others. No one is going to corner any market. I swear that every time a crafting change comes up there is always someone who claims that markets are going to be cornered...

i like the idea of buying out the competitors and then selling them at my price - if i dont do it, some1 else sadly will

First off, I love Walmart and Micosoft. There are some things I don't like but in the end, I'm using Windows XP and shopping at Walmart. Walmart does well because of its extremely efficient distribution system. Not just because he is the big guy on the block. I totally disagree with punishing the rest of SWG because the "little guy" is scared of the efficient, large merchants out there.

BTW, I'm one of the little guys. I'm all for price listings on bazaars.

You're right. This is the best and only plan to prevent this. The dark jedi council should control all commerce and property. That way they can ensure the equity in the masses and prevent the abuse of the prolitariat.
