Thread: I see your not level 80. You must be a NOOB. /pathead
I don't know what the fetish is behind the term "noob" and "newby" and whatever other flavor of the month putdown is. But it would seem to me that if no new players ever come to the game, then the game stagnates and eventually dies over time. There has to be new and fresh bodies in the game. And making them feel unwelcome by calling them "noobs" and other forms of putdowns, isn't doing the game any favors if they find the environment hostile and decide to leave. I've been around the black seeing that this is just one of the SEVEN mmorpg's i've played in the last several years. With that said, i've seen the silly people who would only play another mmorpg if they could be logged in on day 1. I've seen people telling friends to try out some other game, they ask how long it's been out, and they end up declining to try out the other game simply because they would be a "noob" and everyone else had a headstart over them.
Is that the biggest load of horse manure you've ever heard in your life? LOLEven the newest mmorpg i've been playing, Guild Wars, has the same mentality people. Was in an Arena pvp battle and we lost by a 6-4 score. One member of my team was all upset, calling everyone noobs and saying we all sucked, etc, etc. Someone pointed out that it didn't help that he was level 3 and rest of the team was level 5-8 range, for him to stop crying. He hits back "Oh, i've got a level 20", and i'm like "So?", lol. I mean, what's the point? You could play the game for 1 year or 10 years, big deal! The fact is, if you don't play the game the way it was intended and enjoy the game for what it is and have fun, then you might as well have not played at all and spared everyone the griefings that are dished out.
Everyone misses the key factor of mmorpg's. They are what you make it. They are your own little virtual world to live in and prosper in and be the hero or the goat. Also the key thing people are missing the boat on, is the roleplaying aspect and experience. Me and a friend in UO used to go into dungeons and start roleplaying and saying things while in battles "Sir Dimmurwyrd, watch out for the foul orcs to your right!" and other things, playing like we were dashing knights and ladies out to fight the forces of evil. (Or forces of Good depending on characters
) And it would become infectous as other players caught on and started roleplaying their own conversations, even asking to group with us to have a bit of fun. Those times were great, but they were few and far between. Too often we'd get the "You noobs are weirdo's, people aren't supposed to act like that in the game". Bah!
Also, if I said it 1,000 times, I'll have to say it again. When "stuff" in the game becomes more important than the "game", that's when the game has failed in it's purpose. ![]()

lol, my crafting toon is lvl 1No one has said anything to me yet about it. Then again, most on my server know who I am already.
And I think that's also a very good point to be made here in the B & E forum. I get the feeling many who post here fit into 2 very strict categories - Either you ARE the complete noob coming into the arena of SWG Finance, or you are a long time vet of the Economy . Doesn't seem to be much in between here.
I can now only speak from past experiences (as I respeced to combat with 0004 merchant to keep the bank account high) but here goes:
When I was a Master Shipwright/MMerchant/Martisan, I was out shopping and then got "stuck" at the Mining Outpost (the few days after CU when all terminals were broken)
Well, I was hanging around there, watching duels, and then out of nowhere comes some lvl 12 true-newb. She challenges me to a duel, and I obviously did not challenge back (as i was lvl 1 all-crafter at the time.) I asked "why would you want to duel a crafter." and she responded "because I know I can win" So this obviously told me she was a newb. But, there were a ton of people standing around, also stranded, and all the veterans told her to bugger off, and stop picking on the crafters.
So, my point being: the newbs might think you are a newb and easy to kill, but true veterans can tell the difference (Master Whatever crafter tag, numerous master crafter badges, nice matching clothes etc).
If you talk to someone once, you can usually get a pretty good impression whether they've been around or not.
