Thread: Fencer vs Swordsman
Can anyone explain some more differences between the swordsman and fencer? I know that one uses one hand weapons and the other uses 2 hand weapons. Are most swords one hand or 2 hand or can they be used for both? I am just looking for some more information.
Thanks.
Weaponwise: I haven't spent too much time comparing the two (I'm polearm) but it seems that 2h meleers have access to vibro axes in addition to two-handed swords, the curved and straight varieties. The 1h meleers, fencers and the like, get certs for vibroblades, one-handed curved swords and plain 1h swords.
I read somewhere about a warhammer cert, but I can't confirm it. Though, I'd imagine it would be a 2h cert.
the - number thing applies to all melee as far as i know.
As it stands right now, fencers can get weapons that do just as much dmg as ours, and they are slightly faster as well. They also get more weapon speed and accuracy, as well and toughness/defence/resists. I saw a chart somewhere and they get like 80 more points in skills than we do. they will also be geting a damage boost on specials in the upcoming patch.
That said
I think that once we get our loving (mostly balancing and improvements, as we ARENT a broken class) I think we will be totally viable. The best 2h curveds out there meet or beat fencer DPS and we get more powerful specials, as well as the ability to target mind, most PCs weakest link.
Actually i have taken up swordsmen for a little something extra to do. A power hammer can easily do 1000 pvp damage to mind with head hit 3. Problem is you gotta hit with it. Againist a fencer thats no easy trick. Scatter hit 2 is a fencer best move againist secondary defense mods since it bypasses. Swordsmen has no equilevent move. Their best move s mind hit 2 which will cripple an enemy but it wont kill them, they still gotta hope that one of their attacks get through to the mind pool. One one a pure swordsmen(non master brawler)going to have hard time againist a fencer but if the luck goes his way the fencer wont see what went wrong. A master brawler / master swordsmen has a couple more options but againist a master fencer/master brawler its going to be close but i still say the fencer has the odds on his side. A swordsmen properly shines in bigger pvp engagments as his weakness are harder to single out and his massive blows will take people out left and right.
