Noob here, I'm fighting with the wood pole, figured I should buy a better weapon, so I spent 6000 creds on a vibropole (I think that's what it was called) only to get a message that I shouldn't equip it because it wont be as effective due to my low level or something like that. How do I know if what I'm buying is worth my time?

Well yes but dont forget to look at the HAM costs, min - max dam and most importantly speed.

You won't be able to use the Vibro lance till you make novice pikeman, but if that is your plan, you will eventually be able to use it.

If you're stuck on weapons and stuff like that, I find the best way is to do a /who, and ask an elite of whichever profession uses that type of weapon about the weapon and its stats and all that...I know some are busy/obnoxious or whatever, but several are very willing to help and rather helpful.

I've only run in to one jackass, everyone else is very friendly and willing to help the noob population it seems.
I ended up going with unarmed anyways, I've got 70k xp out of 125k needed for TK Novice, I can't wait to hit it, everyone says that once you do you become a badass.

*sigh* Well...in all honesty...TK is a bit weak in my opinion. The Defenses are nice, the damage is mediocre, and my biggest pet peave...EVERYONE IS ONE...that being said...you have to think about what you want to do. TK is a ok profession if you don't plan on doing much more than grinding faction points or maybe going out and killing some creatures for hide,.meat, bone...whatever. TK has one damage type...Kinetic. This I see as a major downfall of TK. Not only that, but many high level npc's have very high kinetic resists. Nightsister Elders are 100% resist to Kinetic. So if you want to truly be "badass", ask every combat profession you see walk by and ask them what they are all about and the ups and downs of that profession...I personally love my template due to the fact that i can do almost all dmg types short of stun, cold, and heat. But to each his own. Good luck in all you do and never be afraid to ask questions in the brawler or your profession specific forum.

I started with the sole intent of becoming a Jedi, was told this was the quickest way.

Well Id have to say about TKM - I like it!
And as to turning novice, hell yeah theres a HUGE difference! But I can follow the points being said about tkm not being the best profession, but thats why u can have more
)
I like having tkm, mBrawler, mSwords. Tkm will give u meditation, which can heal your wounds, remove poison disease. Power boost, which for like 8-10min will up your 3 HAM bars with 50%. And last but not least it gives u FOW, force of will that one time pr hour will let u jump right back up when incapped.
As for jedi, tkm is a good place to start. Reading the guide to glowy is perhaps an even better place since then you know what to do to get to the Village...
But for grinding those gazillions of FS xp I would not suggest tkm. Of course I can understand that you are a new player and I guess you dont have millions upon millions of credit. So tkm and swords or tkm and rifle might be a decent way to grind. But if you wanna grind fast u gotta have to start using grenades...Either as a grenadier(commando 4---) throwing thermal grenades or as mCommando throwing fragmentation grenades(I think thats what commandos use). I can also do without being commando at all and just throw C-12's but they are rather weak compared to the others.
Problem about this approach is the cost... Id say that with thermals you will end up paying something like 1 million credits in grenades for each of the 6 branches you need to unlock and fill.
Upside using thermals you are gonna make arround 100k FS xp pr 20min or so. Using say TKM and Swords you will have to use arround 3 hours to do that. And thats without spending time to chat or eat...
But as a player that enjoys the game - I will advise you not to let yourself miss out on all the fun this game has to offer. Especially for a new player that has never cleared out the Tusken fort and found something nifty or killed tons of those ugly stormies
Hope you enjoy the game.
PS sry for the long post, hope its not too boring to read
Oh and about the FS grind thing, you should look in the FS profession forum if you havent done so already.

Do not use the Bazaar to check for certification. Crafted weapons have a bug were even if u have the certification it will say no. Also happened on vendors of all sorts. Just check your skill sheet for info

everybody is tkm because it is the most powerful profession in the game, till the cu at least when you won't want to bring a knife to a gun fight.

TKM is not the most powerful...
As swordsman/doc i've owned many TKM's (one buffed TKM while i was unbuffed)
As Combat Medic I've owned pikemen, swordsmen, and TKM
