Simply by looking at the skill trees of a profession can provide alot of information about that profession and the game in general.

CTRL ALT, Tempest
Zion, Naboo Goleta Inc. (right in front of the shuttle)
Novice Artisan, Master Bone Armor Crafter, Dabbler in the wielding of a CDEF pistol.
A noob isn't a person...it's a way of life.

Press Cntrl + S, to view skill tree. View what ever level polearms you are and to the lower left of the menu it will say what you are certified in. You can still use it even if you not certified. I am Unarmed IV, you get vibroknuckler at nov TKA, but I have one anyway and it helps me soooooooo much!

Until you get that TKAnovice box, the VK is all about speed. Whatever the speed of the weapon is becomes your new attack speed, but it does jack for your damage (but doesn't decrease your damage). I'm not sure if it's the same for the rest of the weapons, but for those, you'd probably be better off just using what you're certified for.

One other thing to keep in mind, I find that you can get very nice Vibro Knucklers cheaply, however swords tend to carry a higher price tag.

TK is a fun profession, and it will work extremely well for what you are looking to do, and it won't cost a lot of Skill Points or Credits to reach master. As a TKM, you will be able to solo Rancors on Dathomir, which I find to be the most XP-Friendly planet in the game. You can also eat up Fort Tusken for mass XP gain. Krayts are solo-able as well, but you might find that Swordsman will be better for that...

Even though TK only does one type of damage right now, keep in mind that you also can target each of the HAM fields, which is always a nice bonus. And I also think that the healing branch (4xxx) of TK is worth it's weight in gold.

If you are going to go after the uber high end content, you might want to try Swordsman, but be prepared to pay a lot of money for speed skill tapes if you want to be 'the best'.

I think TKM will give you exactly what you are looking for.. in my opinion. Good Luck!

Also be sure that u check CONDITION of any weapon u buy off bazaar, theres always some nice little pubescent 14year old out keen on taking new players already very limited resources by selling them their crap.

Re TKA i played it for about 6 months, i tried other melee professions but aside from possibily fencer it was by far the best pvp and works great pve. Its also alot of fun.

Dunno what u planning on doing re rest of your template but id go master rifles if your wanting all out combat template, at present thats best ranged combat prof in my opinion.

everybody is tkm because it is the most powerful profession in the game, till the cu at least when you won't want to bring a knife to a gun fight.

Bah, its near the weakest. Fencer can outdamage it with a Acklay Gaffy Stick, and DE-10s can pull ahead of TKM at Medium - High.

TKM is all round - Ability to target all pools, heal your own wounds, its big strength is flexibility and self-reliance, as well as Tanking.

Rifle/Pike/Sword has the highest damage output, on average. T21s, pre - nerf, put on a NDK, use SS2, and you can hit for 1k + on high end content.

Pike and its DoTs, 900 + damage LVAs...

Swords' Scythes and Exceptional PHs with HeadHit can cause some pain as well...

Just go for what appeals to you the most. Its all about fun, not being uber.

I made the same mistakes when i started with buying a scout when I couldnt use it yet. The way you tell if your certified is to look at your skills with control+S and on the left of the box their should be someting that says weapon certifications. It should list a variety of thingsdepending on how many lvls u have in two main profesions. Such as a lvl 4 marksman can now use a fwg5 or the same in brawler and up on into the higher professions.

Do not use the Bazaar to check for certification. Crafted weapons have a bug were even if u have the certification it will say no. Also happened on vendors of all sorts. Just check your skill sheet for info

Berserk is good when training the Brawler part, but remember you can't use skills like intimidate while berserked.

...until of course you swing for the first time in pvp with your l337est vibroknuckler and hit for 20 damage or so because you only have light AP and Kinetic damage.
