Thread: Assassins
It has been mentioned here by many people and I think an assassin class is just kind of a pipe dream, but its fun to think about so here are my two cents. (Any developers can feel free to take my ideas and add them in game verbatim
)
Assassin - As masters of melee fighting and subterfuge, assassins find their services to be quite sought after in the times of the Galactic Civil War. Relying on pure skill and stealth the assassin easily singles out his prey for a quick close quarters kill. Not only is the assassin unstoppable in close range, they also have immense knowledge of poisons and trapping. Often an unsuspecting Colonel of the Empire will fall to the deadly poison of an assassin, never having seen his killers face.
Prerequisites for assassin: Master Brawler (obviously), Trapping IV (knowledge of poisons and man-traps) [this also leaves enough skill points for an assassin to choose a melee specialization so he can compete with TKM level prey]
Skill Trees:
Novice Assassin-- A basic man-trap schematic is given so trapping xp can be earned. Also novice assassins are given a class specific weapon certification. I'd like to see some sort of claw like weapon worn on the hands
Man-Trapping--gives an assassin the ability to craft traps usable on humanoid PCs and NPCs. The traps start with simple stunning devices[I], moving to blinding flashes[II], then a delay type trap[III] similar to warcry but lasting longer, and finally a restraint trap which keeps a person in place[IV] allowing them to attack but unable to move for 20 seconds forcing them to stay within melee range. Experience is gained by trapping PCs and NPCs
Stealth--Similar to the investigation line. Experience is gained doing assassination missions. The benefit of this line is an attack bonus to the very first attack used. The attack bonus increases as you level up the tree and is only effective when a stealth command is used. The stealth command is on a timer so you only have so long to use it, and must be applied at least 64m from any PC/NPCs. Also can only be used against PCs and NPCs. Similar in effect to maskscent the stealth can be broken if you are detected, thereby losing your attack bonus. (The way you are detected against PCs is when they attack first, thus causing you to lose the 1st attack bonus)
Subversion--An assassin is for hire and rarely aligned with a given faction. Moving up the subversion line gives a modifier which reduces the negative imperial faction you get from killing a rebel or vise versa. This allows a player to easily move between imperial or rebel, so assassination jobs can be taken from the highest bidder. Experience is gained the same as through the stealth tree, i.e. generic assassination xp. Obviously assassins are solitary individuals so someone with an ability such as this cannot use factional pets.
Debilitating Strikes--An assassin relies on speed to quickly disable a target. Moving up this tree will give you a generic +speed skill for all melee attacks. maybe +5 for each block and the generic speed mulitplier can be stacked with a specific speed bonus if you've specialized with a weapon (i.e. +20 melee speed and +20 polearm speed = +40 only when a polearm is equipped) Also certain special attacks are earned for the assassin specific weapon. Maybe a "poison strike" series. Here you earn combat xp to gain skill boxes.
Master Assassin--Here we get the ultimate in our speed and stealth bonuses. Also a more powerful special attack. I think that since poison would be an important tool for assassins, at master, one gains the ability to craft single use only melee power ups. This increases HAM cost but gives a DoT similar in effect to a combat medic's Poison C packs. Finally we gain an ability to remove our name and title. Our player always remains on the radar of course and can be tabbed if TEF'ed but a name/title does not show up over our head (or in bio when this option is chosen) this allows an assassin to stay somewhat mysterious and hidden and ties into assassin content
Finally (if you've read this far) is the assassin content. Assassination missions are given by NPC's in cities and certain themeparks like Jabbas palace. These missions are to assassinate NPCs. Mission terminals for assassins would be a little hokey so assassins will have an NPCmission giver in each city. As far as PvP and the GCW goes, I think assassins should get a cool role. Faction recruiters will give out PC assassination missions when Rebel or Imperial officers go overt.[officer being anything over Lt.] It seems logical that a declared officer would become a target during a civil war. The mechanism would be the same as a BH/jedi mission, but with a lower payout obviously. Also if the overt player goes back to covert their mission still stands. Here is where the stealth command ties in. At master we can hide our names, and use the stealth commands (queuing the attack bonus) but once we get within 100m of the mark a system message pops up on their screen saying "It seems you are being stalked" Once the assassin gets within 30m he shows up as red on the marks radar and is attackable. Thirty meters gives the mark a sporting chance. If the marklands an attack first, the stealth attack bonus is lost. If the assassin lands it first the mark is screwed. If the mark gets a deathblow the mission was a success and they lose 5% of their faction points (lol only 1% if insured) but if the assassin gets killed, then the mission is over and the PC is no longer a target for assassination unless they go overt again. I think this adds an edge to the GCW, and is fun content. Plus, a player who isn't interested in PvP would not declare faction status, so there is no concern over people becoming missions when they never PvP. If any guilds ever use the guild war option, the opposing guild leaders can become an assassination mark, and if he/she is killed, the war is over with a declared winner. And no, bounty hunters shouldnt be able to get in on this action. they already get jedi missions (unless assassins get a part of the jedi pie too)
Anyway thanks for reading. Its not likely but would be cool nonetheless.
Personally i like the idea but i think your just dreaming outta Diablo 2 days! your basically quoting the assassins from d2- which i loved them in that game but it aint gonna happen. b4 they start making more classes they should fix the classes that are broke right now! sorry bud-hope to see your idea come to life maybe later on!

i love the idea, and that, but even though we may never get such a thing, we may as well humor the dream and put suggestions.
instead of hiding the name as you mentioned, make it so you can have a various ammount of alternate names, that goes up as you progress, like at novice you have one, and by the time you reach master you have five, that way it would make it harder to find you, as they cant see the real name of the person tracking you. and it would add to the mystery of the class. but maby mix that with the ability to hide your name from sight.
and i dont think tiger claws, or katar (i think that is what they are anyways) would really be an assasin weapon, maby more teras kasi, because such weapons are an extention of your hand. they would be talented in all forms of melee based death, and use what weapon suits their needs.
Well not to sound like a spoil sport to all those who say keep dreaming, with the expansion being implemented soon Assassins may be brought in. Which I hope cause my son Dar-ius who is on Flurry is a Brawler Scout combo. and He really wouldn't have much to do other than faction missions or regular missions. And I know that He is getting rather bored cause of it. And an intresting question to pose to you all. Would anyone know what races will be brought in as PC races?

well even though assassian's generally use all they can, and any means to kill, i think the main reason is that people want a melee counterpart to bounty hunter, and if a assasian had marksman skills all it would be is infringing on the bounty hunters and that wouldnt go over too well. and thus is why i think IF they do add assasian it would be melee.
